Comentário: Duo obscuro, formada em Newcastle, Austrália, no início dos anos 70, gravando um único álbum privado, considerado um dos mais raros do país. Ambos os músicos seguiram breves carreiras em pequenos grupos locais, porém sem sucesso. Neste registro ouvimos 12 curtas canções de folk rock com pitadas de psicodelia, porém na maioria do tempo melancólico e acústico. Belas harmonias vocais dominam, acompanhadas principalmente por violões e em momentos por percussão e piano. Destaque para "Wooden Lady", "Skies", "Lalena" e "7 Hours Gone". 

Aqueles exemplos de discos que valem mais pela raridade do que qualidade, mas mesmo assim não decepcionam fãs de folk. 

Duo formed in Newcastle, Australia, in the early 1970s, recording a one private album, considered one of the rarest in the country. Both musicians followed short runs in small local groups, but without success. In this record we hear 12 short folk rock songs with little touches of psychedelia, however melancholy and acoustic in most of the time. Fine vocal harmonies dominate, accompanied mainly by acoustic guitars and in moments by percussion and piano. Highlight for "Wooden Lady", "Skies", "Lalena" and "7 Hours Gone".

Those examples of records that are worth more for rarity than quality, but still do not disappoint folk fans.

Comentário: Dave Miller é um cantor e músico nascido na Nova Zelândia, mas que fez toda sua carreira na música na vizinha Austrália, começando em meados dos anos 60 com o Byrds e posteriormente Dave Miller Set, onde conheceu Leith Corbett (que também passou pelo Blackfeather) antes de se juntarem para lançar apenas este raro trabalho, além de presença de amigos.

Este sólido LP traz 11 faixas curtas que misturam rock psicodélico, blues, hard e country, mistura que dificilmente decepciona, principalmente em 1970, e este caso não é exceção. As guitarras ácidas dominam, acompanhadas por boa seção rítmica, flauta e violões, variando momentos mais próximos das viagens cósmicas sessentistas e outros da agressividade do hard blues da 'nova' década. Os vocais também não decepcionam, tornando esta uma das ótimas pérolas da safra australiana dos anos 70.

Issued at the end of 1970 on Spin (through Festival), 'Reflections Of A Pioneer' was credtited to Dave Miller / Leith Corbett & Friends. The albums diverse sound was exemplified by the single 'Reflections Of A Pioneer / 353527 Charles' (November 1970) which mixed country-tinged psychedelic pop (A-side) with Led Zep. style blues-rock (B-side). As the album progresses it slides into stranger territory, with the last three tracks in particular giving full vent to the experimental aesthetic that seems to be bubbbling away underneath. The sturdy 'Your Own Motor Car' gives way to the intriguing twists and turns of the Zapppaesque 'In Your Mind' which also sounds remarkably like Love's 'Orange Skies' at times.'It's Great To Get Up In The Morning' ends the album on high with its eerie chanting and all manner of psychedelic sounds. The album sold relatively few copies and is now considered to be one of the rarest seventies Australian albums! Mastered from the original tapes, this CD comes in the original artwork with added liner notes.

Comentário: Matthew Tilders, mais conhecido como Dutch Tilders, foi um guitarrista nascido na Holanda, mas ainda jovem mudou-se com a família para Melbourne, onde construiu toda sua carreira na música. É dono de uma longa discografia, além de parceria e tours com grandes nomes do rock, como John Mayall, infelizmente vindo a falecer em 2011.

Este é seu debut, lançado pela Bootleg e que se mantem desconhecido por muitos. Tratam-se de 14 faixas curtas e com dois lados bastante distintos, na parte A são canções inspiradas pelo blues e boogie rock, incluindo versões de Arthur Crudup e Jimmy Reed, acompanhado por membros do grupo local Chain. Enquanto no lado B ouvimos um blues acústico e arrastado, executado todo pelo músico, na presença de sua guitarra e violão, novamente com grandes momentos.

Uma belíssima obra para fãs de blues, seja tradicional ou elétrico. Altamente recomendado!

Tilders’ debut solo album Dutch Tilders proved the man’s mastery of the blues form. One side featured Tilders playing Chicago electric blues with backing provided by members of Chain and the flip was just the man doing down-home Mississippi delta acoustic blues.

There are many fine moments across the man’s records but I particularly enjoy this self-titled debut. On the electric side you can tell it’s just a really relaxed session with Dutch and the guys from Chain doing what they know best. Nothing is overplayed (there are no searing blues-rock work-outs with screaming guitars) and Tilders’ vocal delivery is laconic yet spot-on. Phil Manning’s guitar work is always a joy to hear and while singer / songwriter Brian Cadd was enjoying his own successful solo career at the time, his boogie-woogie piano accompaniment is totally sympathetic to the cause and a real highlight.

Tilders matches his own composition ‘Chimney-Sweep Blues’ with covers of Arthur ‘Big Boy’ Crudup’s ‘That’s Alright Mama’, Jimmy Reed’s ‘Wee Wee Baby’ and Jimmie Cox’s ‘Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out’. Tilders’ affinity with the blues has never been fully examined to my knowledge; however he definitely knew his blues history.

On the acoustic side, the highlights include covers of ‘It Hurts Me Too’, ‘Kansas City Blues’, ‘In the Evening When the Sun Goes Down’ and Big Bill Broonzy’s ‘Southbound Train’ and ‘Keys to the Highway’. Aside from Tilders’ vocals and acoustic guitar (with a side order of slide) the only other musical accompaniment heard is Broderick Smith’s mouth organ on ‘Kansas City Blues’.

Neste LP, que conta com presença dos membros de sua banda na época, Company Caine, ouvimos uma mescla tanto quanto incomum de blues, country, psicodelia, progressivo e boogie rock. No instrumental há um equilíbrio entre passagens dinâmicos e agitadas e outras baladas acústicas, com presença de saxofone, guitarra, piano, percussão e violões, acompanhando o vocal de Gulliver. Recomendo a audição e que façam suas conclusões.

Only solo album released by Australian singer Gulliver Smith, present in several local groups since early 60s until his death in 2014. In this LP, with all members of his band at the time, Caine Company, we hear a unusual mix of blues, country, psychedelia, progressive and boogie rock. In instrumental there is a balance between dynamic and agitated passages and other acoustic ballads, with the presence of saxophone, guitar, piano, percussion and acoustic guitars, accompanying the Gulliver's vocal. I recommend hearing and draw your conclusions.

Comentário: Grupo de Sydney, formado em meados dos anos 70 a partir de ex-membros de pequenas bandas locais, lançaram um único e extremamente raro registro de forma independente, com míseras 50 cópias. A qualidade dos integrantes é outro ponto interessante, dividido em 8 faixas (longas em sua maioria) e combinando um instrumental complexo, dinâmico e cheio de variações, onde destaca-se a guitarra, piano e sintetizadores, acompanhando o belíssimo vocal feminino de Bernie Morgan. Longe de ser um som mediano dentro da estilo, altamente recomendado!

A great Aussie Fusion act from Sydney, which never made it to the recordings of a proper album, Stepps performed regularly from mid- to late-70's at local clubs and hotels and even got some rare airplay on TV and radio at the end of their brief road.They recorded the album ''Waltz for Tiger Joe'' (1976, private) on their own forces, but only 50 copies were pressed and handed to friends, so there are no signs it was ever commercially available. Shame, because they played dreamy yet intense Jazz Fusion with some Canterbury edges, similar to National Health and Belgians Cos, fronted by Morgan's wordless voice experiments and the stunning performance of the musicians, leading to great grooves and unexpected breaks. This was far from average Fusion, the album has a constant tendency towards jazzy Prog Rock through all those tempo changes and complex instrumental patterns, which combine Female vocal Pop and Fusion and electric piano-driven Jazz Rock. Great guitar work and some furious piano paces, who also delivers a few impressive synth flights throughout. Pretty long tracks with lots of instrumental room and lovely interplays.

JAZZ FUNK/ FUSION - BRUCE CLARKE QUINTET - Stratusphunk - 1974

Grupo vindo de Melbourne, na Austrália, ativo no começo dos anos 70. Bruce Clarke Quintet lançou apenas um raro álbum em 1974 no pequeno selo Cumquat, cujo dono era o líder Bruce Clarke. Sem sucesso a banda se desfez pouco tempo depois e alguns de seus membros continuaram participando da cena local.
Stratusphunk é um disco que traz 7 faixas instrumentais, sendo 5 covers de nomes como Miles Davis, Oliver Nelson e George Russell. Passando por jazz fusion tradicional e acentuadas influências de funk, conta com excelente e entrosado trabalho entre metais (trompete e sax), guitarra, percussão e também passagens de Moog. Quanto as faixas, destaque para "Hong Kong Ladies", "Pavane" e "Three Seconds", apesar de ser consistente.
Pérola recomendada para fãs de jazz fusion e funk.

The Highly sought after album by the Bruce Clarke Quintet “Stratusphunk”. Recorded during the mid 70’s in Melbourne, Australia and released on Bruce Clarke’s own label “Cumquat Records”. With inspiration coming from albums like Miles Davis’- Bitches Brew , The Quintet’s sound centers around electrified instrumentation (Guitar,Bass, Sax etc) with Clarke also using the Moog synthesizer. The style of the album is really more of a funky jazz sound than jazz rock as stated on the rear cover.
The best track on the album is the Awesome “Three seconds”, Nice and funky stuff. ”Hong Kong Ladies” is another funky cut and another long one too (almost 11 minutes). There’s a version of the Miles Davis track ”Tune up” as well as ” Stratusphunk, The Falling Rains, Pavane” and “One for Donna”.

Pérola formada em 1968 na cidade de Sydney, na Austrália. O grupo Mecca teve curta duração, lançando um único e raro compacto pela Festival em 1970, se desfazendo logo depois. Os membros Dennis Wilson e Bob Daisley formaram a conhecida banda Kahvas Jute no mesmo ano.
O single traz as músicas "Black Sally" e "Side Street Man", a primeira que teve uma versão feita pelo Human Instinct no disco Stoned Guitar. Ambas curtas e trazendo uma boa e típica mescla de rock psicodélico, hard e blues da época, guiado pela excelente e ácida guitarra, acompanhada por bons vocais e bateria/ baixo competentes. O grupo aqui mostra grande capacidade para um trabalho mais longo, porém que nunca foi realizado.

Mecca was a band formed in 1968 in Sydney, Australia. The group was short-lived, casting a unique and rare single by Festival in 1970, disbanding soon after. Members Dennis Wilson and Bob Daisley formed Kahvas Jute in the same year.
The single brings the songs "Black Sally" and "Side Street Man", the first had a version made by Human Instinct in the album "Stoned Guitar". Both short and bringing a good and typical mix of psychedelic, hard and blues rock, guided by great acid guitar, accompanied by fine vocals and competent drums / bass. The group here shows great capacity for a larger work, but that was never accomplished.

Pérola vinda da Austrália, formada em meados de 1971 na cidade de Melbourne. O grupo It Flew Away teve curto período de duração, tocando em universidades e pequenos festivais (comuns na época), chegando a gravar músicas para um álbum em 72, que por dificuldades financeiras não foi lançado na época. Com estes problemas e brigas internas a banda se desfez no ano seguinte; apenas em 1987 as gravações foram recuperadas e lançadas em LP duplo, mas limitado a 250 cópias! Em 2007 o disco ganhou uma remasterização em CD.
Pull Out All The Stops (também chamado de "Lounge Room Tapes" na versão mais recente), conta com 11 faixas. A primeira canção "On My Way Home", de 6 minutos, dá uma prévia clara do que ouvimos em seguida: mistura típica na época de rock progressivo e psicodélico, em uma linha longe da comercial, com longos jams instrumentais dominados por solos viajantes de órgão e guitarra estontante, acompanhado por competente bateria e baixo. O vocal de Barend não fica atrás, rasgado e marcante. Quanto as faixas, o destaque vai para as mais longas "Good Times", "Aimless Pasture", "Open Spaces" e "Pull Out All the Stops Mother", chegando quase aos 16 minutos, apesar de ser um trabalho sólido.
Ótima descoberta para fãs de prog e psych rock dos anos 70, recomendado!

The group "It Flew Away" is from Australia, formed in mid 1971 in the city of Melbourne. During their short period of activities was short-lived, playing at universities and small festivals, even recording songs for an album in 72, which due to financial difficulty was not released at the time. With these problems the band broke up in the following year; Only in 1987 these old recordings were recovered and released into 2xLP, but limited to 250 copies! In 2007 the album won a remastering CD.
Pull Out All The Stops (also called "Lounge Room Tapes" in the first version), features 11 tracks. The first song "On My Way Home", 6 minutes, gives a clear preview of what we heard next: typical mix of progressive and psychedelic rock in a  non-commercial line, with long instrumental jams dominated by trip organ and amazing guitar, accompanied by competent drums and bass. As for the tracks, the highlight are the longest "Good Times", "Aimless Pasture", "Pull Out All the Stops Mother" and "Open Spaces", despite being a solid work.
Great discovery for fans of prog and psych rock of the 70s, recommended!

Pérola obscura formada na Austrália em 1971. O projeto (provavelmente apenas de estúdio) Swamp Salad juntou alguns músicos relativamente conhecidos na cena local, como os guitarrista Dave Donovan e Len Hutchinson, de origem australiana e neo-zelandesa. Deixaram como registros um álbum em compacto no mesmo ano, lançados pela Calendar e com presença da cantora Christine Barnett.
On the Country Line é dividido em 12 faixas curtas, sendo vários covers, que como sugerem o título, misturam influências do country, swamp, boogie, blues e até rock psicodélico norte americano. O som é simples e direto, alcançando seus melhores momentos no instrumental, com protagonismo das guitarras, alguns solos interessantes e wah-wah, acompanhados por consistente "cozinha" de bateria/ baixo. O vocal feminino aparece em 4 faixas, dando um toque interessante ao som, mas sem grande expressão. Quanto as faixas, destaque para "Take Me Back to Memphis", "Groovey Man Mangrove", "Country Line" e as viajantes "The Ballad of Creepy Creek" e "Aquarius".
Nada de essencial, mas uma boa pedida para fãs de country e boogie rock.

Obscure gem formed in Australia in 1971. The project (probably just studio) Swamp Salad joined some relatively known musicians in the local scene, as guitarist Dave Donovan and Len Hutchinson, from Australia and New Zealand. They left as records a single and one album in same year, launched by Calendar and with presence of singer Christine Barnett.
"On the Country Line" is divided into 12 short tracks, with various covers, which as the title suggests, mix influences of country, swamp, boogie, blues and even psychedelic rock, close to American bands. The sound is simple and straightforward, reaching its best moments in the instrumental, with protagonism of the guitars, some interesting solos and wah-wah, accompanied by consistent drums/ bass lines. The female vocal appears in 4 trakcs, giving an interesting touch, but without much expression. As for the tracks, notably "Take Me Back to Memphis", "Groovey Mangrove Man," "Country Line", "The Ballad of Creepy Creek" and "Aquarius".
Nothing essential, but a good choice for country and boogie rock fans.

O sexteto Stafford Bridge foi formado provavelmente na região de Sidney, Austrália, no começo dos anos 70, lançando dois raros singles em 1972 pela Infinity. Posto aqui o último, com as curtas músicas "Song for a Blind Man" e "Passing Lines", mas ambas muito bem executadas, trazendo a típica mistura de rock progressivo e psicodélico. O instrumental conta com interessantes solos de flauta, órgão, bateria e guitarra distorcida, o vocal aparece bem, com temática pacífica e tranquila.

Pérola recomendada para fãs de rock psicodélico e progressivo.

The sextet Stafford Bridge was probably formed in the Sydney region, Australia, in the early '70s, releasing two rare singles in 1972 by Infinity. Post here the last one, with short songs "Song for a Blind Man" and "Passing Lines", but both well executed, bringing the typical mix of progressive and psychedelic rock. The instrumental has interesting flute, organ, drums and distorted guitar solos, vocal appears good, with peaceful and calm theme. Recommended for psychedelic and progressive rock fans.

COUNTRY ROCK - BLUESTONE - Same - 1974

Pérola vinda da Austrália, formada em Melbourne pelo vocalista e guitarrista Terry Dean e baterista John Creech, ex-Mixtures. O grupo Bluestone lançou dois álbuns, o primeiro em 1974 e o segundo apenas em 1982, já com nova formação. Como o último não teve o mesmo sucesso de vendas, a banda se desfez logo após, em 84. Vários membros seguiram carreira solo ou em outros grupos locais; tiveram uma rápida reunião em 2011.
Posto aqui o debut homônimo, composto por 10 curtas faixas de country rock e com influências de rock da costa oeste americana, em nomes como The Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers e The Eagles. Nada de diferente no instrumental, dominado pela guitarra, mas com momentos melódicos e acústicos de violão e percussão e outros "caipiras",  com banjo e violino. Destaque maior para o "Lado A", com "Ride On", "Home Ain't Home", "Country Fair" e "Stage Coach".
Pérola recomendada para fãs de country e west coast rock.

Pearl coming from Australia, formed in Melbourne by vocalist and guitarist Terry Dean and drummer John Creech, former Mixtures. The group Bluestone released two albums, the first in 1974 and second only in 1982, already with new members. As the last one had not the same sales success, the band disbanded soon after, in 84. Several members played solo or with other local groups; had a quick meeting in 2011.
Post here the eponymous debut, composed of 10 short tracks that mix country rock and influences of the West Coast rock bands like The Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers and The Eagles. Nothing different in instrumental, dominated by guitar, but with melodic moments (acoustic guitar and percussion) and other "rural" with banjo and violin. Emphasis to the "Side A" with "Ride On", "Home Is not Home", "Country Fair" and "Stage Coach". Recommended for country and west coast rock fans.

PSYCHEDELIC ROCK - VELVET UNDERGROUND - Somebody to Love / She Comes in Colours - 1970

Pérola formada em Newcastle, na Austrália em 1967. A banda Velvet Underground (não confundam com a de mesmo nome dos EUA) foi ativa até 1972 e lançou apenas um compacto em 1970. Após várias mudanças de formação, contando até com a presença do jovem guitarrista Malcolm Young entre 1971-72, o grupo se desfez e vários membros integraram a Ted Mulry Gang.
O single traz dois bons covers de Jefferson Airplane ("Somebody to Love") e Love ("She Comes in Colours"). As influências de bandas psicodélicas/ hippies da costa oeste americana são evidentes, com fortes solos de guitarra e órgão e momentos viajantes. Nada de especial, mas interessante pérola para fãs de rock psicodélico dos anos 60.

The band Velvet Underground (do not confuse with the American one) was formed in Newcastle, Australia in 1967. They were active until 1972 and has only released a single in 1970. After several lineup changes, presence of the young guitarist Malcolm Young between 1971-72, the group disbanded and several members joined the Ted Mulry Gang.
The single brings two good covers of Jefferson Airplane ("Somebody to Love") and Love ("She Comes in Colours"). The influences of psychedelic / hippies of the West Coast bands are evident, with strong guitar and organ solos and trippy moments. Pérola obscura vinda da Austrália, o grupo Home foi formado em 1972 por Glyn Mason, após sua saída da conhecida Chain. A banda, apesar do curto tempo em atividade, lançou 2 LPs e outros 3 compactos entre 1973 e 74. Após o término do Home, vários membros integraram outros nomes do rock local, como Richard Clapton, Daddy Cool e Ariel.

Posto aqui o segundo e último álbum, Long Long Way to Nowhere de 1974. É dividido em 8 faixas, contando com uma bônus retirada do single, trazendo uma ótima e simples mistura de country rock, mas "sofisticado" em alguns momentos (Roots Rock), influenciado por hard e blues. Excelente trabalho nas guitarras, com algumas passagens mais acústicas de violão, combinadas com fortes harmônias vocais de Mason e Lawson merecem destaque. Apesar de nenhuma faixa fraca, o destaque principal fica com "Westward Bound", "Mr. Blue" e "Same Old Feeling Again".

Pérola altamente recomendada para fãs de country e blues rock.

Post here the second and last album, Long Long Way to Nowhere, 1974. Is divided into 8 groups, with one bonus of single, bringing a great and simple blend of country rock, but "sophisticated" at times (Roots Rock), influenced by blues and hard rock. Great work on guitars, with some more acoustic guitar passages, combined with strong vocal harmonies of Mason and Lawson are noteworthy. Although no bad track, the main highlight is "Westward Bound," "Mr. Blue" and "Same Old Feeling Again". Highly recommended for fans of country and blues rock.

HARD ROCK - SOUTHERN CROSS - Same - 1976

Esta é a contribuição do Pérolas do Rock'n'Roll para a Postagem Especial do Dia Mundial do Rock! O grupo Southern Cross foi formado em 1975 por dois ex-integrantes do Buffalo Alan Milano e John Baxter em Sidney, na Austrália. Lançaram um único álbum em 1976, sem sucesso de vendas o guitarrista Bruce Cumming e o baixista Michel Brouet deixaram a banda em 77 e logo se desfizeram.
O álbum homônimo traz 8 curtas faixas (com exceção de "Games") do clássico "hardão setentista", lembrando em vários momentos o som de grandes nomes como UFO, Bad Company, Nugent e outros sons pesados da época. Riffs cortantes e solos nervosos de guitarra e bateria marcam todas as faixas, apesar de algumas baladas estarem presentes. Destaque para "Money Maker", "What Am I Waiting For?", "Games" e "Stromy Lady",  apesar de ser um disco sólido.
Hard rock simples e direto, pérola recomendada para fãs do estilo nos anos 70!

The group Southern Cross was formed in 1975 by two former members of Buffalo, Alan Milano and John Baxter, in Sydney, Australia. They released one album in 1976, unsuccessfully sales and left of some members in 77 made the group end. 
The self-titled album features 8 short tracks (except for "Games") of the classic Hard/heavy 70s rock, remembering at various moments the sound of greats bands like UFO, Bad Company, Nugent... Cutting riffs and edgy guitar solos mark all tracks, although some ballads are present. Highlight for "Money Maker", "What Am I Waiting For?", "Games" and "Stromy Lady", despite being a solid record.  Direct and straightforward hard rock, recommended gem for fans of the style in the 70s!

JAZZ/PROG ROCK - SUN - Sun 1972 - 1972

Pérola vinda de Sydney, na Austrália, formado em 1972. O sexteto Sun lançou um único raro álbum em 1972, intitulado "Sun 1972", infelizmente acabaram logo depois, sem muitas vendas. A banda também revelou a cantora Renée Geyer, que conseguiu bastante sucesso na carreira solo.
O disco é composto de 9 faixas quem combinam jazz rock com elementos progressivos, contanto com belas melodias e ótimas passagens de sax, flauta, piano e guitarra. O vocal feminino (Renée Geyer) e masculino (Keith Shadwick) também merece destaque. Quanto as faixas, "Message", "No Cherries For Henry" e "I Really Want to Know" são as melhores.

Pearl formed in Australia, in 1972. The Sextet "Sun" launched a unique rare album in 1972, titled "Sun 1972", disbanded soon after this. The album consists of 9 tracks, that combine jazz rock with progressive elements, provided with beautiful melodies and passages of sax, flute, piano and guitar. The female vocal (Renee Geyer) and male (Keith Shadwick) is also noteworthy. As for the tracks, "Message", "Cherries In For Henry" and "I Really Want to Know" are the best.

SPACE ROCK - CYBOTRON - Colossus - 1978

Pérola formada em Melbourne, na Austrália, em 1975. O Cybotron começou com apenas dois músicos: Steve Maxwell Von Braund e Geoff Green, logo o baterista Gil Matthews integrou o grupo e assim lançaram o primeiro álbum, em 1976, considerado o primeiro de rock experimental/eletrônico do país. Logo no ano seguinte Colin Butcher substituiu Matthews na bateria e o trio lançou o segundo disco, Colossus, de 1978, nessa época o Cybotron conseguiu certo sucesso, fazendo shows pela Europa, após novas mudanças na formação a banda lançou um último LP em 1980 e se separou no ano seguinte.
Posto aqui o segundo álbum do grupo, de 1978, considerado o melhor do trio, é dividido em 4 longas e instrumentais faixas. Como já disse acima, o som da banda é space rock, prog eletrônico e experimental. O instrumental, como em todas as bandas do gênero, é dominado por sintetizadores, teclados, órgão, piano e Mellotron, com prolongados e hipnóticos solos, contando ainda com boas passagens de saxofone e sólido trabalho na batera. Nada muito original, mas som competente, lembrando Tangerine Dream e Hawkwind.
Pérola altamente recomendada para fãs de space rock e prog eletrônico.

Post here the second album from 1978, considered the best of the trio, is divided into 4 long and instrumental tracks. The group's sound is space rock, electronic prog and experimental. The instrumental is dominated by synthesizers, keyboards, organ, piano and Mellotron, with extended and hypnotic solos, still relying on good passages of saxophone and solid work on the drums. Nothing too original, but competent sound, reminding Tangerine Dream and Hawkwind. Highly recommended for fans of space rock and electronic prog.

PROGRESSIVE ROCK - MADDER LAKE - Still Point - 1973

Mais uma pérola australiana formada em Melbourne, essa não tão desconhecida. O Madder Lake lançou 2 álbuns e vários singles nos seus 5 anos de atividades, pela "recém-nascida" Mushroom Records. Em 1978, ano que o grupo se desfez, foi lançado uma coletânea: The Best of Madder Lake. Posto aqui o primeiro e mais conhecido disco do Madder: Still Point, que foi relançado em CD na década de 90 e mais recentemente com várias faixas bônus do ao vivo no festival de Sunbury, em 1973 e músicas dos compactos da banda.
O álbum de estreia do grupo traz um ótimo rock progressivo, com canções originais e influencia de vários outros estilos como hard, blues, folk e rock psicodélico. Instrumental bem arranjado, guitarra em vários momentos com pedal wah-wah, piano e órgão se revezam . Outro destaque é o ótimo vocal de Mick Fettes, que encaixa bem nas canções. Um disco bem consistente, com várias faixas de bastante qualidade, principalmente Salmon Song, On My Way to Heaven e a última e talvez o hit da banda, 12-lb Toothbrush.

Australian pearl formed in Melbourne. Madder Lake has released 2 albums and several singles in their five years of activities, by Mushroom Records. In 1978, a compilation "The Best of Madder Lake" was released. Post here first and best known album Madder: Still Point, which was reissued on CD in the 90s and more recently with several bonus tracks of live in Sunbury Festival in 1973 and the single songs of the band.
The group's debut album brings a great progressive rock, with original songs and influenced by various other styles as hard, blues, folk and psychedelic rock. Well arranged instrumental guitar at various times with wah-wah pedal, piano and organ take turns. Another highlight is the great vocals of Mick Fettes, which fits well in the songs. A very solid album, with several tracks of enough quality, especially Salmon Song, On My Way to Heaven and the last and perhaps the hit of the band, 12 - lb Toothbrush.
Very good Pearl , one of the highlights of the Australian rock , recommended for fans of '70s rock , particularly progressive.

HARD ROCK - CHOOK - Cold Feet / Tables Turn - 1971

Pérola vinda da Austrália, formada em Melbourne em 1970, o Chook só lançou um compacto em 1971 e acabou no final do mesmo ano. As músicas do grupo estão entrando em várias compilações recentes sobre sons obscuros da Austrália da década de 70; outra curiosidade é que a faixa lado A, "Cold Feet" teve um vídeo promocional. Seu single traz duas ótimas e canções na melhor linha "hardão setentista", arrebentando com bons riffs e solos de guitarra e também ótimo vocal, realmente essa banda tinha potencial para gravar um álbum. Recomendado para fãs de hard rock.

BLUES ROCK - SID RUMPO - First Offense - 1974

Sid Rumpo foi uma banda australiana formada em Perth, em 1971, e, infelizmente, teve pouco tempo de atividade, lançando apenas um disco em 1974 e acabando no mesmo ano. Tiveram na sua formação Mick Elliot. Mick é um talentoso guitarrista de blues-rock conhecido por participar de vários outros grupos do país como Smiths Levi Clefs, Jim Keays' Southern Cross e Western Flyer.
First Offense traz um ótimo blues rock, com momentos mais boogie e também influenciado pelo southern rock americano, principalmente o Allman Brothers. O instrumental é, no geral, muito bom, mas os riffs pesados e o "feeling" dos guitarristas Elliot and Rob Searls merecem destaque, o piano também dá um "charme" a mais para o som. A voz rasgada de Robert também não fica devendo. No geral, um disco muito sólido, ótimo do começo ao fim.
Uma ótima pérola, altamente recomendada para fãs de blues e boogie rock, mesmo não sendo um dos melhores e mais conhecidos da Austrália.

Buster Brown foi um grupo australiano formado em Melbourne em 1973 e que tinha na sua formação Angry Anderson, que formaria alguns anos mais tarde o conhecido Rose Tattoo, e Phil Rudd, que entraria para o AC/DC. Após importantes saídas de membros o grupo acabou em 1975, gravando um único álbum em 74. Mesmo assim foi uma banda importante no cenário do rock australiano da primeira metade dos anos 70.
O som do seu álbum, Something to Say, de 1974 é baseado no hard rock, com muitas influências de blues e boogie rock. As guitarras e o vocal de Anderson são os destaques.
Pérola interessante e recomendada para fãs de AC/DC e Rose Tatto que querem conhecer um pouco das "raízes".
