Comentário: Raridade vinda de Hamilton, Ontario, de onde é o músico Martin Wall, que produziu e lançou seu único disco de forma independente, com parceria de alguns ex-parceiros da sua banda Vehicle. O álbum é composto basicamente de 4 faixas curtas e uma de 15 minutos no lado B, além de algumas de poucos segundos. Rock progressivo é o estilo dominante, em momentos mais sinfônico, outros com influência de música clássica (como no caso da suíte) e beirando o prog-pop em alguns momentos de vocal melódico, que ofuscam a beleza do instrumental. Os teclados de Wall se destacam, tendo belas passagens de piano clássico (sua formação) até sintetizadores viajantes, acompanhados por guitarra/baixo/bateria, infelizmente limitados pela produção precária. Destaque para "Golden Glow" e, claro, "Metaphysical Facelift", que fecha muito bem a obra.

Nenhuma grande contribuição para o gênero, mas mesmo assim vale a audição aos 'prog-heads' de plantão.

Made with the most modest of means, Metaphysical Facelift is a testament to ingenuity and perseverance, but most of all to sublime songwriting. Martin’s voice and songs are melancholic and timeless, reminiscent of Bill Fay, Robert Wyatt and at times Brian Wilson. On the album, Martin sings and plays piano, polymoog, mellotron, and Cat synthesizer. He also had a few friends join him on bass, guitar, drums, and backing vocals. The ambitious arrangements and production, stacked full of effects, overdubs and electronics is impressive, like a charmingly home-baked Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. A private pressed record of the highest order, sure to make deep impressions on open-minded listeners for years to come.

Comentário: Grupo de Ontário fundado pelo holandês Barry Vandersel em meados dos anos 60, passando por mudanças de nome e formação, até finalmente serem Noah, lançando assim dois álbuns. A banda acabou prematuramente após a morte do líder em 75, por conta de um câncer. 

Posto aqui o segundo e último disco, com participação de Randy Bachman (ex-The Guess Who), dividido em 10 faixas, sendo algumas voltadas ao hard rock e outras mesclam de forma agradável country, psicodelia e folk rock, em alguns momentos mais melódico (frequentemente comparado com CSNY). O instrumental é simples e guiado pelo ótimo trabalho das guitarras, acompanhada por percussão, baixo e bateria eficientes. O vocal também é outro ponto alto, muito bem harmonizado e encaixado nas canções.

Consistente e bem executado disco, recomendado para fãs de country e hard rock dos anos 70.

Ontario's Noah appear at the midway point. Like a few bands on here, they had support from Randy Bachman who occasionally played 2nd guitar with them live and, along with production duties, allegedly played on parts of the the bands second (and final) album 'Peaceman's Farm' (1972). The album is a mix of rural sounding rock which is perfectly complemented by Paul Clapper's husky vocals as you can hear on 'Something's In the Way'. It is less pop-orientated then their debut, which is still a pretty good record but quite different to Peacaman's Farm, closer to what they recorded under their previous moniker 'Tyme And A Half'. My gripe with this album is that while it's all of good quality, it's weighted a bit to too much towards balladeering, the four or so 'rocking' tracks on it are brilliant and I would have more of them!

Comentário: Músico e compositor de Vancouver que lançou dois álbuns, este que posto aqui, de forma privada em 1978, e outro mais recente, em 2006. Pouco mais se sabe sobre sua história. O disco, gravado ao vivo em estúdio, é composto de 5 faixas totalmente instrumentais e experimentais. 

As 4 primeiras, que preenchem o lado A, trazem o trio bateria, baixo e guitarra, com destaque para a fúria e distorções da última em diversos momentos, passando por psicodelia e jam/ noise rock. Já a suíte que fecha o LP apresenta piano, saxofone e percussão, em passagens abstratas e caóticas que flutuam entre avant-prog e free jazz, apesar de difícil rotulação.

Para fãs de avant-prog e experimentalismo essa é uma interessante pedida, recomendado.

This one's pretty damn strange/unique. I'll have to break it down a side at a time.

Side A is four unnamed pieces featuring a guitar/bass/drum lineup doing entirely instrumental, noisy mathy jazzy skronk rock. Sounds a bit like a mishmash of Discipline-era KC, Melt Banana (minus the vocals), Minutemen and DNA. It's quite good, and VERY ahead of its time, and it'd be worth the price of admission...

...until the side-long title track hits you. This one's got a lineup of drums/piano/saxophone, and it's full-blown free improv. Chaotic, aimless free improv. It has nothing to do with the rest of the album. Not musically, not aesthetically, not sonically.

Comentário: Grupo vindo de Toronto, ativo na primeira metade dos anos 70 e que ganhou certa popularidade local, lançando cinco LPs e vários singles, inclusive acompanhando Pierre Trudeau em sua campanha política em 1972. Neste segundo disco, dividido em 14 curtas faixas, ouvimos uma boa mescla de boogie, blues e country rock, típico da época. A guitarra guia o instrumental, com riffs e solos marcantes, acompanhada por piano, metais, gaita e percussão. Destaque para "Too True Mama", "Oh What A Feeling",  "Murder In The First Degree" e "Mountain Fire", apesar de ser uma obra consistente.

Group from Toronto, active in the first half of the 70's and that had local popularity at the time, releasing five LPs and several singles, including accompanying Pierre Trudeau in his political campaign in 1972. In this second disc, divided in 14 short tracks, we hear a good blend of boogie, blues and country rock, typical of the time. The guitar guides the instrumental, with remarkable  riffs and solos, accompanied by piano, metals, harmonica and percussion. Highlight for "Too True Mama", "Oh What A Feeling", "Murder In The First Degree" and "Mountain Fire", despite being a consistent work.

Comentário: Formada na capital Ottawa, esta obscura banda lançou apenas um álbum em 1976 e desapareceu. Neste homônimo ouvimos apenas uma faixa de 19 minutos no lado A, dividida em 3 partes, e seguindo influências de rock progressivo sinfônico, com abundância dos teclados (piano, órgão e sintetizadores) que dominam o instrumental, acompanhados raramente pela guitarra. Infelizmente há uma forte tendência comercial, especialmente no vocal exageradamente melódico, além de produção que deixa a desejar.

Very rare 1976 self-titled homebrew vinyl release from a Canadian band with only side of music running about 19 minutes across three songs. Piano-driven rock with symphonic and AOR elements, some synth, little or no guitar. Dominated by melodramatic and fairly poor male vocals, but there's also some decent female vocals and harmony vocals for brief passages. The first 30 seconds are pretty arresting, with the female singer wailing over some ELP-styled neo-classical jamming, but that sound doesn't return to speak of and the album essentially amounts to a fourth-rate version of Kansas. Pathetically amateurish in every way, especially recording quality. Definitely not worth a second listen and not even a first listen except for people who enjoy scraping the bottom of the 70s rock rarities barrel.

Comentário: Primeiro disco solo deste músico de Quebec, quase todo instrumental e executado de forma primorosa pelo próprio Charles Zaczynski, com destaque ao belo trabalho do violino, flauta e violão, proporcionando um clima melancólico e deslumbrante em vários momentos. 

Charles Kaczynski guested on the first Conventum album, playing violin. He put his only solo album out on his own label a short time later. There are no credits, so it's unclear whether Kaczynski is doing everything himself via multi-tracking or whether he has help. Violin is omnipresent on this album, generally either solo with harmonics or in homophonic lines, supplemented by vocals, piccolo, recorder, acoustic guitar, cello, and so on. The album consists of brief pieces that all run together creating a unified masterwork. The music produces an incredible groundswell of emotion of great intensity, melancholy and powerful bittersweetness. There is an English version of this album with a longer running time. Kaczynski was later a member and composer for Cirque Éloize, a musical and theatre ensemble.

Pérola formada no final dos anos 60 em Montreal, Quebec, no Canadá, pelos irmãos Richard e Marie-Claire Séguin. O La Nouvelle Frontière teve uma carreira muito breve, lançando dois álbuns em 1970 e se desfazendo logo no ano seguinte. Após o fim, os irmãos seguiram como dupla solo em "Les Séguin" e o tecladista Normand Théroux formou a banda Le Match.
Posto aqui seu primeiro álbum, dividido em 10 faixas e totalizando cerca de meia hora. O grupo traz fortes influências dos anos 60, desde o visual hippie até a sonoridade, que mescla a música folk e psicodélica da época, em algumas passagens experimentais e classificado até como proto-prog. O instrumental é consistente, sendo dividido em momentos mais pesados, onde ouvimos guitarra distorcida e órgão e outros acústicos, com violão e percussão. Os vocais em francês das bandas de Quebec geralmente agradam bastante e aqui não há exceção, sendo masculinos e femininos.
Uma bela obra para fãs de acid-folk e também prog-Quebec, recomendado!

La Nouvelle frontière was formed in the late 1960's by the twins, Richard (guitar/vocals) and Marie-Claire (vocals) Séguin, in Montreal's eastern district of Pointe-aux-Trembles. They were joined by André Brault (bass/guitar/vocals), Denis Chenier (drums), Robert Letendre (guitar/vocals), and Normand Théroux (keyboards/vocals). They released two albums in 1970, a self-titled effort followed by "L'Hymne aux quenouilles". The music has a strong 1960's folk-rock feel to it, with only a couple of mildly experimental tracks. Although La Nouvelle frontière performed with some high profile names such as Johnny Halliday and Little Richard, the group was largely ignored by the media due to its hippie image. The Séguins' more acoustic style also clashed with Théroux's preference for rock music, and the group disbanded in 1971.Théroux later joined progressive band Le Match, while the twins formed the folk duo (Les) Séguin, eventually pursuing successful solo careers.

PROG FOLK - MARC LEBEL - Un de Plus - 1971

Pérola obscura vinda de Quebec, no Canadá. O músico local Marc Lebel lançou este único e raro álbum em 1971 na companhia de amigos como Gilles Bergeron e René Dupéré, os três que viriam a formar a banda Agape no ano seguinte, realizando outro LP no mesmo ano.
Un de Plus ("Um a mais") é composto por 10 curtas faixas que mesclam folk, rock psicodélico e progressivo de forma equilibrada, lembrando em partes o próprio Agape. Assim como o desenho de capa, o som é bastante rudimentar, sempre com presença dos violões, mas também interessantes participações de bandolim, gaita, guitarra fuzz (como em "Les Éléphants" e "Viet-Nam"), piano e até trompete. As letras são todas em franceses e transmitem sensações que passam entre melancólica e humor.
Um disco que vai "crescendo" a cada audição e se torna um belo exemplo de prog/psych folk de Quebec.

Obscure album coming from Quebec, Canada. The local musician Marc Lebel released this rare LP privately in 1971 in the company of friends as Gilles Bergeron and René Dupéré, the three who would form the band Agape in the following year.
Un de Plus ("One more") consists of 10 short tracks that mix folk, psychedelic and progressive rock in a balanced way, reminding in parts Agape. As well as the cover, the sound is quite rudimentary, always with the presence of acoustic guitar, but also interesting parts of mandolin, harmonica, guitar fuzz (as in "Viet-Nam"), piano and even trumpet. The lyrics are all in French and transmit sensations that pass between melancholy and happiness. A record that "grows" after first listening and becomes a fine example of prog / psych folk of Quebec.

Atendendo a pedidos, faço repost de um dos primeiros e mais influentes grupos do cena "Prog Quebec". O super grupo Ville Emard Blues Band (com cerca de 20 músicos) foi formado por em uma comunidade em Montreal por volta de 1972, lançando dois LPs na época, mas se desfazendo de forma prematura. Desde 2004 a banda voltou a fazer shows esporádicos pela região.
O primeiro álbum do VEBB, Live à Montréal foi gravado ao vivo e é duplo. É composto por 16 faixas difíceis de classificar, misturando um "caldeirão" de estilos, principalmente o jazz fusion, funk e prog rock, contando ainda com algumas influências do folk, música experimental (jams) e rock psicodélico. O instrumental, apesar de "maluco" em certos momentos, é muito rico, bem executado e entrosado com os belos vocais masculinos e femininos (em francês), com destaque para metais, sopros, guitarra, órgão e percussão.
Uma pérola difícil de descrever, mas que agradará fãs de jazz e prog rock. Ouçam e tirem suas conclusões!

Ville Emard Blues Band was a cooperative of musicians formed in 1972 around bassist Bill Gagnon, who operated a recording studio in the Ville Emard district of Montreal. The studio was a meeting place for many of Quebec's leading session musicians and recording artists. During the summer of 1973,
Their sound was rather eclectic oscillating between prog, jazz-rock and funk and often sounding a bit like Santana. Clearly one of the central player of the band is percussionist (congas mostly) Michel Seguin who would work with most groups of the province, but starting with TOUBABOU, which can be seen as the most direct descendant of VEBB. This first album is a mixed bag (the songwriting is shared by too many people to give any sense to unity to this album), but with much more good elements than the rare sloppy ones, and the best moments are worthy of the best JR/F albums. This album holds very high historical importance in La Belle Province as it sort of marks the start of the next 5-year's prog-explosion.

Mais uma pérola vinda do Canadá, este de Montreal. June Wallack teve uma rápida carreira musical nos anos 70, lançando um único e raro álbum em 1976, com participação de músicos da Ville Emard Blues Band e Guillotine. Atualmente trabalha como narradora e atriz no país.
O disco que leva o nome da cantora conta com 8 faixas, maioria curtas, começando em um estilo folk-romântico com "On est rien qu'des amis ici", mas que muda de clima nas próximas músicas, que "bebem da fonte" progressiva e fusion de Quebéc, apesar do clima acústico e calmo persistir. Instrumental elaborado com destaque ao piano, flauta, guitarra e sintetizadores se encaixam bem ao delicado vocal de June, sendo quase todas as letras em francês.
Mais um belo e esquecido trabalho do Prog Quebec, aqui também recomendado para fãs de prog-folk.

June Wallack was a female vocalist who also played the piano and flute. She released only one LP, a stunningly beautiful self-titled album in 1976, accompagnied by bassist Bill Gagnon (who co-produced it with Yves Vincent), keyboardist Pierre Nadeau, and guitarists Michel Robidoux and Moose Tellier, all former members of Ville Emard Blues Band. The LP was released on the RCA label and contains a combination of relaxing jazz and some fine progressive moments. The album's cover art by Robert Morin was nominated at Canada's 1977 Juno Awards. Another rare and overlooked gem from Quebec's progressive music scene.

Pérola muito obscura vinda de Calgary, cidade do Canadá. Praticamente nada se sabe sobre a banda Windjam, inclusive seus membros. Lançaram um único e raríssimo álbum em 1974 pela pequena Westmount e sumiram do mapa.

As músicas são marcadas por bonito vocal, vários coros e instrumental simples, com violão, guitarra, gaita de boca e piano.
Talvez seja mais interessante pela raridade do que pela qualidade apresentada, mas ainda recomendado para fãs de folk e country rock.

Obscure gem coming from Calgary, city of Canada. Virtually nothing is known about the band Windjam, including its members. They launched an only and rare album in 1974 by small Westmount and disappeared from the map.
The eponymous album consists of 10 short tracks that mix acoustic folk rock, with strong doses of country and even blues, sounding a little comercial at times. The songs are marked by beautiful vocals, various choirs and simple instrumental, with acoustic guitar, guitar, harmonica and piano.
Perhaps more interesting by its rarity than the presented quality, but still recommended to folk and country rock fans.

Fechando a sequência de postagens das Américas, uma super raridade vinda de Montreal, no Canadá. O trio Mantra teve breve período de existência, lançando um único álbum e compacto em 1970, com presença de alguns músicos locais, prensagem pequena e até hoje não relançado, tornando este um item de colecionador. Após o fim do grupo Draper e Fauteux formaram a banda D'arcy, lançando outro LP dois anos mais tarde.
O homônimo é dividido em 12 curtas canções, passeando pelos estilos folk/soft e country. Bonitas melodias acústicas, com violões, piano, percussão e outros instrumentos se fazem presentes acompanhando o vocal, que não fica atrás, com vários momentos de coro e letras em inglês, trazendo um clima até nostálgico em momentos. Quanto as faixas, destaque para "Hopscotch", "Simple Joys", "Tomorrow Without You", "Drifter" e "Dick's Song".
Pérola muito bonita e bem tocada, recomendada para fãs de folk rock com toques de country.

Super rarity coming from Montreal, Canada. The trio Mantra had brief period of existence, releasing a single album and single in 1970, with the presence of some local musicians, small press and still not reissued, makes this a collector's item. After the end of the group, Draper and Fauteux formed the band D'arcy, releasing another LP two years later.
The self-titled is divided into 12 short songs, walking through folk / soft rock and country. Beautiful acoustic melodies with acoustic and steel guitars, piano, percussion and other instruments present following the vocals, that keeps the same feel, with several moments of chorus and lyrics in English, bringing even a nostalgic atmosphere at times. As for the tracks, especially "Hopscotch," "Simple Joys", "Tomorrow Without You", "Drifter" and "Dick's Song."
Beautiful and well played gem, recommended for folk rock fans with country touches.

PROG FOLK - JACQUES TOM RIVEST - Same - 1979

Jacques Tom Rivest é um músico e cantor canadense, originário de Montreal, Quebec, onde formou o reconhecido grupo Pollen em 1972. Alguns anos após o fim da banda, Rivest lançou seu primeiro álbum solo, com presença dos ex-companheiros Richard Lemoyne, Claude Lemay e Serge Courchesne, já nos anos 80 editou outros 2 discos, na linha pop.
Seu homônimo de 1979 é composto por 10 faixas curtas. As influências principais são folk, melancólico e acústico, com elementos de rock progressivo sinfônico, um pouco mais comercial e em breves momentos lembrando o disco anterior do grupo. Letras em francês, com bonitos vocais e excelentes passagens no teclado de Lemay marcam o disco. Destaque para "La Langue De Son Pays", "Voyage Au Tibet", "Messager Du Temps" e "La Nuit".
Apesar de não ser uma obra prima do prog Quebec, ainda recomendo esta pérola para fãs do estilo, principalmente Pollen.

Jacques Rivest had the distinction of being one of the main founding members of one of Quebec's most critically acclaimed progressive rock bands from the 70's, Pollen. However by the end of 1976 the band was no more and it would be 3 years before Rivest would be heard from again when he released his self titled solo album. This album re-unites Rivest with his Pollen band mates, even original drummer Serge Courchesne who quit in '74.
While the music on this CD has flashes of instrumental fireworks don't expect it to sound like Pollen. The sound leans more towards folk but plenty of prog influences remain; the songs are also generally more commercial as well. Rivest's soothing and tender voice guides the listener through this fine collection of material and I'd have to say the highlight for me was the Eastern flavored "Voyage au Tibet" with its full and rich sound, clocking in at over 7 minutes. However there are grand orchestral moments a plenty on this disc.
Over all this is yet another solid re-issue from the ProgQuébec people and one worthy of adding to your collection if you are wondering why the 70's was a magical time for this kind of music in Québec.

Pérola formada em Toronto, no Canadá, ativa no começo dos anos 70. O grupo Alabama (não confundam com a conhecida banda americana de mesmo nome) foi formado pelo baterista Len Sembaluk (ex-Brutus) e Rick Knight, lançaram apenas um raro álbum  e um single, ambos em 1973.
O LP Close to Home é dividido em 11 curtas faixas de country rock típicas da época, com leves influências de música psicodélica, folk, southern rock e até bluegrass dos EUA. O som traz um instrumental simples, mas competente, guiado pela guitarra e com bonitos momentos acústicos de violão, piano, gaita e flauta. O vocal de Rick também é destaque, acompanhado de coros em quase todas as músicas. Destaque para "People And Places", "Highway Driving" e "Quicksand". Pérola recomendada para fãs de country rock.

Pearl formed in Toronto, Canada, active in the early 70. The group Alabama (do not confuse with the known American band of the same name) was formed by drummer Len Sembaluk (former Brutus) and Rick Knight, released only a rare album and one single, both in 1973.
The LP "Close to Home" is divided into 11 short tracks typical of country rock bands of the time, with light influences of psychedelic, southern rock, folk and even bluegrass. The sound brings a simple, but competent instrumental, driven by guitar and beautiful moments of acoustic guitar, piano, harmonica and flute. Rick's vocals are also featured, accompanied by choirs in almost every song. Emphasis on "People And Places," "Highway Driving" and "Quicksand". Great record for country rock fans.

O grupo Guillotine era composto por 9 membros, entre eles o tecladista Pierre Nadeau, que integraria o Ville Emard Blues Band e os irmãos Paul, Jean e André Morin. Infelizmente a banda teve vida curta e se desfez logo no começo dos anos 70, lançando apenas um disco em 1971, gravado em Londres e distribuído nos EUA.
Seu álbum auto-intitulado é dividido em 9 curtas faixas, com exceção da última e trazem uma mistura bastante eclética, que vai do blues até jazz funk, passando por rock progressivo, psicodélico, soul e folk, com clima melódico na maioria do tempo. Interessantes arranjos, com boas passagens de órgão, piano, guitarra e metais, acompanham o poderoso vocal de Carol Breval, frequentemente comparado com Janis Joplin. As letras são todas em inglês, com destaque para "Hands of Children", "Those Years Have Gone By", "Anniversary" e "I Can't Believe It".
Obra interessante para fãs de ProgQuebec e Jazz/ blues rock, ouçam e tirem suas conclusões.

Unfortunately the band was short-lived and disbanded at the beginning of the 70s, releasing only one album in 1971, recorded in London and distributed in the US.
The self-titled album is divided into nine short tracks, except the last one and bring a very eclectic mix, ranging from blues to jazz funk, through prog rock, psychedelic, soul and folk, melodic most of the time. Interesting arrangements, with good passages of organ, piano, guitar and metals, accompanying the powerful vocal of Carol Breval, often compared to Janis Joplin. The lyrics are all in English, emphasis on "Hands of Children", "Those Years Have Gone By", "Anniversary" and "I Can not Believe It".
Interesting work to ProgQuebec and jazz / blues rock fans, listen and draw your conclusions.

PROG ROCK - ANOTHER ROADSIDE ATTRACTION - Same - 1979

Atendendo a pedidos, um som obscuro do final dos anos 70 vindo de Toronto, no Canadá. O grupo Another Roadside Attraction foi um quarteto de curta duração que deixou apenas um raro registro em 1979, lançado de forma independente antes de se desfazer.

O disco homônimo traz 6 faixas de rock progressivo na maioria do tempo tranquilo e melódico (soft rock). O line-up incomum com dois tecladistas, baterista e um vocalista evidencia o domínio aqui, com alguns bons e longos solos de sintetizadores e piano e bateria no "background". O ponto fraco, na minha opinião, é o vocal de Paul Saunders, dando um forte caráter comercial ao som da banda. Destaque para "Serenade for the Sun" e "The Maze".

Nada de essencial, mas uma boa pérola para quem curte prog com forte pegada nos teclados.

Upon request, an obscure sound of the late 70's from Toronto, Canada. The group Another Roadside Attraction was a quartet of short duration that released just a rare record in 1979.
The self-titled album features 6 tracks of progressive rock's most soft and melodic. The unusual line-up includes two keyboardists, a drummer and a vocalist, showing the highlights here, with some good and long synth and piano solos and drums in the "background". The weak point, in my opinion, is vocal of Paul Saunders, giving a strong commercial character to the sound of the band. Highlight for "Serenade for the Sun" and "The Maze". Nothing essential, but a good gem for those who enjoy prog with much keyboards.

COUNTRY ROCK - BRIDGE - Same - 1971

Pérola rara vinda do Canadá, o trio Bridge surgiu em 1970 em Toronto, formado por três ex-membros do grupo David, que lançou um único disco em 1969, incluindo os irmãos Francis e John Webster e ainda Tony Lecallion. A banda fez certo sucesso no sul de Ontário e logo em 1971 lançaram seu único álbum, infelizmente o disco não decolou e a banda se acabou no mesmo ano.
O disco homônimo de 71 é dividido em 9 faixas, com som bem diferente do feito pelo David. As principais influências são o country, folk e rock da costa oeste, com leves toques psicodélicos, acid jazz e blues em momentos distintos, mostrando uma mistura interessante e "simpática". Na parte instrumental, um competente e clássico trio bateria/baixo/guitarra é presente, com raras participações de piano. Quanto as faixas, recomendo que ouçam todas, pois tem uma dinâmica e clima diferente, contando com cover de Little Richard ("You're My Girl"), mas com quase 10 minutos e solo de bateria presente.
Pérola recomenda para fãs de country e west coast rock

Rare gem coming from Canada, the trio Bridge emerged in 1970 in Toronto, formed by three former members of the group David. The band had some success in southern Ontario in 1971 and soon released their only album, unfortunately didn't achieve success and the band disbanded in the same year. 
The self-titled album is divided into 9 tracks. The main influences are country, folk and west coast rock, with mild psychedelic, acid jazz and blues touches, showing an interesting and "friendly" mix. In the instrumental part, a competent and classic trio drums / bass / guitar is present, with rare appearances of piano. As for the tracks, I recommend you listen to all, it has a different dynamic and atmosphere. Recommended for fans of country rock

Pérola vinda do Canadá, formada em Montreal no final dos anos 60. O grupo Man Made lançou um único e raro álbum em 1971 e logo caiu na obscuridade, infelizmente quase nada sabe-se hoje sobre os caras.
O disco homônimo traz apenas 6 faixas, com destaque principal para a primeira faixa, também intitulada Man Made, com quase 20 minutos e ocupando todo o lado A do LP, contando com elementos progressivos, psicodélicos e experimentais com ótimas passagens de órgão, sintetizadores, guitarra, flauta e até trompa (nada comum para o rock), sem contar belas harmonias vocais. Quanto as outras músicas, todas são curtas e não muito originais, voltadas mais ao rock psicodélico dos anos 60 e algumas baladas.
Apesar de inconsistente, recomendo esta pérola para fãs de rock progressivo e psicodélico da época.

The self-titled album has only 6 tracks, with main emphasis on the first track, also titled Man Made, with almost 20 minutes and occupying the entire A side of the LP, with progressive, psychedelic and experimental passages with great organ, synth, guitar, flute, horn and beautiful vocal harmonies. As for the other songs, all are short and not very original, geared more to the psychedelic '60s rock and some ballads.  Although inconsistent, I recommend this gem for fans of progressive and psychedelic rock of the era.

Pérola canadense formada em Quebec em 1967 pelos irmãos Bryan e Maurice Singfield, o trio Oliver Klaus ainda tinha na formação o baixista Jerry Cushen. Lançaram um único álbum em 1970 com apenas 500 cópias e rapidamente se desfez. Em 2002 o disco foi relançado em CD com 10 faixas bônus, retiradas de gravações em estúdio, ao vivo e compactos. Em 2012 o trio se reuniu com mais alguns músicos da região e fizeram poucos shows em Quebec.
O recente relançamento em CD, intitulado Oliver Klaus 1967-70, que posto aqui, traz 21 faixas, a grande maioria curta. Há mistura de vários estilos, com predomínio do rock psicodélico típico do final da década de 60 como na versão de 8 minutos de "Season of the Witch", passagens de folk, acústico aparecem, nas faixas "Walk In The Night" e "Traveling Song" e também hard rock, no cover "Kentycky Woman" e "Islands Float In Waterloo". No geral, ótimas músicas, tocadas pelo clássico e pesado "power-trio" setentista.
Um álbum muito variado, mas que vai agradar todo fã de rock obscuro dos anos 60/70.

Canadian pearl formed in Quebec in 1967 by brothers Bryan and Maurice Singfield , the trio Oliver Klaus released one album in 1970 with only 500 copies and quickly fell apart. In 2002 the album was reissued on CD with 10 bonus tracks. The CD Oliver Klaus 1967-70, that I post here, brings 21 tracks. There is mix of several styles, predominantly typical psychedelic rock of the late 60 as in version 8 minutes of  "Season of the Witch", passages of folk and acoustic in tracks "Walk In The Night" and "Traveling Song", also hard rock, in the cover "Kentycky Woman" and "Islands in Waterloo Float". Overall, great music, played by the classical and heavy "power- trio" seventies.

ACID FOLK - ERICA POMERANCE - You Used to Think - 1968

Obscura pérola vinda do Canadá. Erica Pomerance foi (ou é) uma cantora, produtora e poeta canadense de Montreal, em 1968 ela reuniu um grupo de músicos para a gravação do seu primeiro e único álbum, entre eles membros do grupo americano Octopus Dion Grody, Lanny Brooks e Craig Justen e outros como Billy Mitchel e Richie Heissler. Depois do lançamento a cantora sumiu do mapa e nunca mais lançou alguma coisa, pouca informação se sabe sobre ela, apenas em 2009 o álbum foi remasterizado e relançado em CD.
Seu disco, You Used to Think, traz uma forte e clara influencia do folk rock psicodélico feito principalmente na Inglaterra daquela época. Essa gravação traz de diferencial o som experimental, viajante e em momentos até hipinótico, expressado muito bem em faixas como Koanisphere e Anything Goes. O vocal é todo feminino, em inglês e em alguns pontos falado, outros cantado e até em momentos "chapado", com alguns gemidos e gritos ao fundo. Na parte instrumental o violão domina, acompanhado suavemente em algumas faixas pela flauta e sax; até a sitar, instrumento típico da música indiana, tem algumas tímidas passagens.
Pérola meio difícil de gostar, mas de muita qualidade. Altamente recomendado para fãs de acid folk.

Her album: You Used to Think, brings a strong and clear influences from folk psychedelic rock made ​​mostly in England at that time. This record brings experimental, traveller and even Hypnotic sounds, expressed very well on tracks like Koanisphere and Anything Goes. The vocals are all female, in English with spoken , sung and even other "stoned" moments , with some moans and screams in the background . Instrumental part in the guitar dominates, gently accompanied on some tracks by flute and sax, sitar have a few tickets shy .
