Comentário: Pérola vinda da Hungria e cujas informações são praticamente inexistentes na internet. Lançaram um único LP e outros dois compactos pelo selo estatal Pepita. Alguns de seus membros seguirem breve carreira solo ou ingressaram em outros grupos.
Neste debut ouvimos 10 curtas faixas que mesclam hard rock simples e country/ blues do sul dos EUA, que vivia seu auge na época (algo pouco usual para bandas 'oficiais' da cortina de ferro). As guitarras guiam o instrumental, acompanhadas por animada seção de metais, percussão e piano, em solos que rivalizam em quase todas as canções. As letras são todas em húngaro e geralmente cantada em coro. Surpreendente e interessante registro para fãs de country, especialmente pela localidade.

Sprint was a band from Hungary and almost no information is available on the internet. They released one rare LP and two singles by the state label Pepita. Some of its members follow a brief solo career or join other groups.
In this self-titled debut we hear 10 short tracks mixing hard rock and country / blues from the Southern bands of the time (something unusual for 'official' bands of the Iron Curtain). The guitars guide the instrumental, accompanied by exciting section of metals, percussion and piano, in solos that rival in almost all the songs. The lyrics are all in Hungarian and usually sung in chorus.

Comentário: Grupo formado em Bergen pelos irmãos Ove e Trygve Thue, ativo no começo dos anos 70, lançando 3 álbuns na época, que apesar de relativo sucesso não evitaram o fim precoce da banda. Fazem reuniões esporádicas pelo país há duas décadas. Este segundo LP é o mais raro, mesclando rock progressivo com uma pegada fusion em faixas mais longas (que, pessoalmente, são as mais interessantes), além de algumas na linha de rock clássico e country comercial, porém não ruins. A parte instrumental acaba sendo destaque frente aos vocais em inglês, que não agradam tanto, lideradas pelas boas passagens de órgão e guitarra.

A group from Bergen formed in 1970. Thue, Thue and Halvorsen earned their living as musicians during the local staging of the "Hair" musical. Their first album was a really mixed bag with moments of both glory (the beautiful, pastoral "Couple Of Freaks", the energic progressive rock of "Don't Look Back" and the warbling, quasi-psychedelic "Fly") and failure (the hopeless "Opus 1", the painstakingly naive "All The Time" and the tedious "So Long"). Main writer Ove Thue had a fascination for The Beach Boys and The Beatles, resulting in some favorable vocal arrangements. The problem for Saft was the lack of a specific sound and the mixture of English and Norwegian lyrics. "Horn" managed to maintain a more homogenous sound throughout, mixing song-based jazzy progressive rock with American folklore. The group slowly drifted apart with Trygve Thue joining Rune Walle in the short-lived group Hole In The Wall. Walle followed Thue back to a revamped Saft. Their new album Stev, Sull, Rock & Rull (1973) merged simple rock'n'roll, folk and country to much critical and popular acclaim, but will be of restricted interest to foreign collectors several decades later.

Comentário: Grupo formado em Hartford por uma comunidade evangélica local no fim dos anos 60, lançando um único e raro disco, sumindo do mapa e sem deixar mais informações. Este é um álbum de 10 curtas faixas que misturam diversos estilos como country, blues, gospel, funk e psicodelia, sendo dois covers de Bob Dylan. Há forte presença de coral, tendo vozes masculinas e femininas. Conta com grande número de músicos, apesar de ser na maioria do tempo um som acústico, tendo destaque as passagens de percussão, flauta, órgão e sax.
Um bom exemplo de rock cristão, porém de personalidade dos anos 70, recomendado!

Group formed in Hartford by a local gospel community in the late 60's, releasing only one rare album, disappearing from the map and leaving no more information. This is an album of 10 short tracks that mix diverse styles like country, blues, gospel, funk and psych, being two covers of Bob Dylan. There is a strong presence of coral, having male and female voices. It has a large number of musicians, although most of the time it is an acoustic sound, with highlights of the percussion, flute and sax passages. A good example of Christian rock, but with personality, recommended!

Comentário: Dave Miller é um cantor e músico nascido na Nova Zelândia, mas que fez toda sua carreira na música na vizinha Austrália, começando em meados dos anos 60 com o Byrds e posteriormente Dave Miller Set, onde conheceu Leith Corbett (que também passou pelo Blackfeather) antes de se juntarem para lançar apenas este raro trabalho, além de presença de amigos.

Este sólido LP traz 11 faixas curtas que misturam rock psicodélico, blues, hard e country, mistura que dificilmente decepciona, principalmente em 1970, e este caso não é exceção. As guitarras ácidas dominam, acompanhadas por boa seção rítmica, flauta e violões, variando momentos mais próximos das viagens cósmicas sessentistas e outros da agressividade do hard blues da 'nova' década. Os vocais também não decepcionam, tornando esta uma das ótimas pérolas da safra australiana dos anos 70.

Issued at the end of 1970 on Spin (through Festival), 'Reflections Of A Pioneer' was credtited to Dave Miller / Leith Corbett & Friends. The albums diverse sound was exemplified by the single 'Reflections Of A Pioneer / 353527 Charles' (November 1970) which mixed country-tinged psychedelic pop (A-side) with Led Zep. style blues-rock (B-side). As the album progresses it slides into stranger territory, with the last three tracks in particular giving full vent to the experimental aesthetic that seems to be bubbbling away underneath. The sturdy 'Your Own Motor Car' gives way to the intriguing twists and turns of the Zapppaesque 'In Your Mind' which also sounds remarkably like Love's 'Orange Skies' at times.'It's Great To Get Up In The Morning' ends the album on high with its eerie chanting and all manner of psychedelic sounds. The album sold relatively few copies and is now considered to be one of the rarest seventies Australian albums! Mastered from the original tapes, this CD comes in the original artwork with added liner notes.

Comentário: Grupo de Ontário fundado pelo holandês Barry Vandersel em meados dos anos 60, passando por mudanças de nome e formação, até finalmente serem Noah, lançando assim dois álbuns. A banda acabou prematuramente após a morte do líder em 75, por conta de um câncer. 

Posto aqui o segundo e último disco, com participação de Randy Bachman (ex-The Guess Who), dividido em 10 faixas, sendo algumas voltadas ao hard rock e outras mesclam de forma agradável country, psicodelia e folk rock, em alguns momentos mais melódico (frequentemente comparado com CSNY). O instrumental é simples e guiado pelo ótimo trabalho das guitarras, acompanhada por percussão, baixo e bateria eficientes. O vocal também é outro ponto alto, muito bem harmonizado e encaixado nas canções.

Consistente e bem executado disco, recomendado para fãs de country e hard rock dos anos 70.

Ontario's Noah appear at the midway point. Like a few bands on here, they had support from Randy Bachman who occasionally played 2nd guitar with them live and, along with production duties, allegedly played on parts of the the bands second (and final) album 'Peaceman's Farm' (1972). The album is a mix of rural sounding rock which is perfectly complemented by Paul Clapper's husky vocals as you can hear on 'Something's In the Way'. It is less pop-orientated then their debut, which is still a pretty good record but quite different to Peacaman's Farm, closer to what they recorded under their previous moniker 'Tyme And A Half'. My gripe with this album is that while it's all of good quality, it's weighted a bit to too much towards balladeering, the four or so 'rocking' tracks on it are brilliant and I would have more of them!

Comentário: Pérola formada em Munique no começo dos anos 70 e que lançou apenas um LP, além de alguns singles no começo da década, no line up haviam dois músicos que ganharam fama na música pop, Danny Mark e Fancy. Trata-se de uma banda cover de Creedence Clearwater Revival, seguindo o mesmo estilo country, swamp e rock clássico, porém com versões cantadas em alemão. O instrumental é simples e fiel ao grupo original, liderado por guitarra, além de metais, piano e até flauta.
Interessante para fãs de country rock e CCR em especial.

Formed in Munich in the early '70s, this group released only one LP, plus some singles at the beginning of the decade, in the line up there were two musicians who gained fame in pop music years later, Danny Mark and Fancy. It is a cover band of Creedence Clearwater Revival, following the same country, swamp and classic rock style, but with all lyrics in German. The instrumental is simple and faithful to the original group, led by guitar, as well as metals and piano.
Interesting record for CCR fans in particular.

Comentário: Formada em 1970, o grupo Buffalo (não confunda com a australiana de mesmo nome) passou por várias mudanças de formação, entre eles vários ex-membros da Delta Blues Band. Lançaram três LPs na segunda metade dos anos 70, se desfazendo posteriormente. Posto aqui uma compilação recente com 13 faixas da banda, curtas e seguindo a linha do country e blues rock, muito influenciado por nomes norte-americanos. O instrumental é simples, liderado pela guitarra, com boas passagens de gaita, piano, além de momentos acústicos.

Formed in 1970, the group Buffalo (do not confuse with the Australian band of the same name) had several line-up changes, among them some former members of the Delta Blues Band. They released three LPs in the second half of the 70's. Here is a recent compilation of 13 tracks from the band, short and following the country and blues rock style, heavily influenced by North American names. The instrumental is simple, led by the guitar, with good passages of harmonica, piano, and acoustic moments.

Aqui ouvimos 11 curtas faixas de country rock, mesclando melodias tradicionais do estilo e certas doses de blues, funk e groove, apesar de manter-se majoritariamente acústico. O instrumental é destaque, com passagens bem entrosadas de violão, gaita, percussão e piano. Boa pedida para fãs de country e blues americano, recomendado.

First solo album by musician and composer Rob Galbraith, who would join the group Jubal, and participate and produced several other LPs before releasing his second and final album in 1976. Here we listen 11 short country rock tracks, mixing traditional-style melodies and good doses of blues, funk and groove, although it remains mostly acoustic. The instrumental is highlight, with well mixed passages of acoustic guitar, harmonica, percussion and piano. Worth a listen for fans of country and American blues, recommended.

Comentário: Duo formado por dois viajantes, o francês Jacques Leglise e o inglês Michael Green, que na segunda metade dos anos 70 gravaram seu único LP na Alemanha, lançado de forma privada na Holanda e tendo suas poucas cópias vendidas em shows. Dividido em 4 longas faixas, trata-se de um belo exemplo de folk rock setentista, com doses de blues e country, além de atmosferas variadas: psicodélicas, acústicas e dançantes. É também surpreendente, tendo em vista que há uso de apenas violão e gaita de boca, executadas de forma competente e acompanhando raras passagens cantadas em inglês.   

Duo formed by two travelers, Jacques Leglise (French) and Michael Green (English), that recorded in the second half of the 70's their only LP in Germany, released privately in the Netherlands and having its few copies sold at concerts. Divided into 4 long tracks, this is a fine example of 70's folk rock, with blues and country doses, and different atmospheres: psychedelic, acoustic and dancing. It is also surprising, because only acoustic guitar and harmonica are used and well performed, accompanying rare passages sung in English.

Neste LP, que conta com presença dos membros de sua banda na época, Company Caine, ouvimos uma mescla tanto quanto incomum de blues, country, psicodelia, progressivo e boogie rock. No instrumental há um equilíbrio entre passagens dinâmicos e agitadas e outras baladas acústicas, com presença de saxofone, guitarra, piano, percussão e violões, acompanhando o vocal de Gulliver. Recomendo a audição e que façam suas conclusões.

Only solo album released by Australian singer Gulliver Smith, present in several local groups since early 60s until his death in 2014. In this LP, with all members of his band at the time, Caine Company, we hear a unusual mix of blues, country, psychedelia, progressive and boogie rock. In instrumental there is a balance between dynamic and agitated passages and other acoustic ballads, with the presence of saxophone, guitar, piano, percussion and acoustic guitars, accompanying the Gulliver's vocal. I recommend hearing and draw your conclusions.

Comentário: Como o próprio título do CD indica, esta é uma banda formada por roadies do Allman Brothers entre 1973 e 74, que gravaram material próprio na época e que só foi lançado quatro décadas depois. Divido em 10 faixas, sendo metade covers e outras instrumentais, o disco traz uma mescla equilibrada de blues, jam e southern rock, onde ouvimos músicos competentes e boas melodias, lideradas pela dobradinha entre piano e guitarras. 

Obra consistente e cercada de história interessante, recomendado para fãs de southern e blues rock.

On one hand, the vibe of A Band Of Roadies comes as no surprise: after all, the band comprised members of the Allman Brothers Band’s road crew circa ’73-’74, along with some other players from the Macon, GA music scene at the time. This mix of covers and originals – infused with bluesy, jazzy grooves and adventurous jams – is exactly what you might expect from offshoots of the ABB family. What is a pleasant surprise, however, is the fact that this is a great album made by some solid players. After all, just because they lugged the Allmans’ gear, it doesn’t guarantee they could play it, but A Band Of Roadies stands on its own hind legs as a cool chunk of early 70s bluesrock recently rediscovered. (...) All in all, A Band Of Roadies is a great listen, regardless of the Allman connection. The fact that this music was created from a mix of service to the job at hand and a passion for the music that surrounded them makes the story of the Almost Brothers one that causes you to smile and shake your head.

Pérola formada em Ohio, nos EUA, tendo suas origens a partir da banda de garagem Pictorian Skiffuls. O grupo Dixie Peach surge em 1973 e lança dois anos mais tarde seu primeiro álbum, chegando a abrir na época para nomes como Joe Walsh, Blue Oyster Cult e outros. Mais dois CDs vieram em momentos distintos, em 2002 e o mais recente em 2013, mantendo a banda na estrada.
Posto aqui o debut homônimo de 1975, dividido em 7 faixas, sendo a maioria curtas. Apesar da localização, o som é geralmente classificado como southern rock, além de doses acentuadas de blues, tendo como principal referência o Allman Brothers. Instrumental consistente e agitado marca o som, guiado pelo excelente trabalho nas duas guitarras, além de órgão, piano e bateria; o vocal também não fica devendo. Quanto as faixas, destaque para "Going Down", "I'll Be Gone" e "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly", apesar de raros pontos fracos.
Para fãs de southern e blues rock, este certamente é um trabalho que merece atenção.

Heavily Allman Bros. influenced southern rock by this Ohio band, with mostly blues based mat'l, and featuring dual lead and slide guitar, some vocal harmony, and a few Grateful Dead moves as well. A real sleeper, relatively off the radar so far, but gaining in reputation - and well worth seeking out by fans of the genre. Quite consistent too.

Pérola obscura vinda da Suécia. Muito pouco se sabe sobre o trio Nailband, lançando apenas um álbum em 1972, sem nenhuma nova edição, e com participação de outros dois músicos locais. O vocalista e líder Peter Lundblad seguiu carreira solo nos anos seguintes, indicando um fim prematura da banda.
The Most Remarkable Nailband é composto por 11 faixas curtas, sendo um cover de "Ohio", do Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, mostrando a influência principal do grupo: o country rock, mesclado ainda com alguns lampejos de folk e prog rock. A música é na maioria do tempo tranquila e acústica, típicas do estilo, guiada por violão, percussão e piano, com algumas passagens mais firmes de guitarra e órgão. As letras são todas em inglês e carregadas de sotaque.
Nenhuma novidade dentro do estilo, porém ainda recomendo para fãs de country rock.

Nailband was an obscure trio from Sweden. Very little is known about the group, they released only one album in 1972, with no new edition and participation of two other local musicians. The lead singer Peter Lundblad had a solo career in the following years, indicating a premature end of the band.
"The Most Remarkable Nailband" consists of 11 short tracks, including a cover of "Ohio", by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, showing the main influence of the group: country rock, with light touches of folk and prog rock. Music is most of the time quiet and acoustic, typical of the style, guided by acoustic guitar, percussion and piano, with some good passages of guitar and organ. The lyrics are all in English and  accent loaded. Nothing new in the style, but still recommend to country rock fans.

Pérola vinda do Texas, nos EUA. O duo Thunder era formado pelo vocalista David Alley e o tecladista Whitey Thomas, para gravar o que seria seu único álbum em 1974, contaram com presenças de amigos locais dos grupos Nitzinger e Bloodrock. Sem sucesso o grupo se desfez pouco tempo depois, caindo na obscuridade.
O disco homônimo é dividido em 9 faixas curtas que trazem um Southern Rock característico da época, aqui com leve pegada funk (no baixo e sintetizadores principalmente) e boogie, variando momentos animados e outras calmas baladas. O instrumental é simples, guiado pela guitarra e com boas passagens de piano e teclado, acompanhando o vocal rasgado de Alley. Quanto as músicas, destaque para "It Feels So Good", "King's X" e "Power Glide".
Nada de extraordinário, mas recomendado para fãs de southern rock.

Thunder was a duo, consisting of David Alley and Whitey Thomas. For this, their only release, they got a little help from some friends. Like Bloodrock's Randy Reeder, guitarist Bugs Henderson and, of course, John Nitzinger. John playing guitar, bass and writing about half the album.
Well, it's a fun record for sure. Very 70's, Southern funky boogie rock. I love the keyboards, funny sounds and all, and some fierce guitar picking. The vocals at times have a chipmunk quality to them, but that's alright. And the songs work just nicely for me.

Pérola formada na Inglaterra, como projeto do músico irlandês Jonathan Kelly, contando ainda com os músicos Trevor Williams (ex-Audience), Snowy White (que se tornaria membro do Thin Lizzy anos mais tarde) e Chas Jankel (futuro guitarrista do The Blockheads). O grupo durou pouco tempo, lançando um álbum e outro compacto, ambos em 1974, e se desfazendo logo em seguida. Kelly abandonou sua carreira na música na mesma década.
Waiting On You é composto por 8 faixas, intercaladas entre curtas e longas, trazendo um som que flerta entre folk e country rock, além de algumas baladas e leve tentativa comercial. O instrumental é bastante equilibrado e na maioria do tempo tranquilo, com boa pegada nas guitarras, violão, piano e bateria, sempre acompanhando o vocal de Jonathan e letras que abrangem temas como política, sociedade e religião. Quanto as faixas, destaque para "Misery", "Great Northern Railroad" e "Tell Me People", a última com claras influências de funk.
Um bom disco, recomendado para fãs de country e folk rock britânico.

"Waiting On You" consists of 8 tracks, interspersed between short and long, bringing a sound that flirts between folk and country rock, plus some ballads and commercial attempt. The instrumental is fairly balanced and most of time quiet, with good guitars, acoustic guitar, piano and drums, always following Jonathan's vocals and lyrics about politics, society and religion. Best tracks are "Misery", "Great Northern Railroad" and "Tell Me People", the last with clear funk influences. A good record, recommended for fans of British country and folk rock.

HARD/ BOOGIE ROCK - GLASHAUS - Drinking Man - 1977

Obscura banda vinda da Áustria, formada em meados dos anos 70 pelos irmãos Harry e Dieter Stuempfl . Informações sobre o quinteto Glashaus são escassas, eles provavelmente se estabeleceram em Munique, lá gravando seu único e raro álbum em 1977. Sem sucesso a banda se desfez e alguns de seus membros formaram o grupo Email anos depois.
Drinking Man é um álbum curto, dividido em 10 faixas. Ouvimos aqui mescla tradicional de hard, boogie e country rock do final da década, simples e direto, com destaque para as bons solos e riffs das guitarras, acompanhada por bons momentos de órgão, gaita e bateria. As letras são todas em inglês e com constantes coros. Destaque para "Drinking Man", "The Waiting Game" e "Vertigo".
Apesar de um pouco comercial e nada extraordinário, merece atenção de fãs de boogie e country rock.

A groovy upbeat rock album from Austria, sung in English. Not progressive, with some cuts verging on hard rock, there is some good organ work. The opener Shine On Medas is Status Quo-like boogie, and there is a southern/boogie feel to most other tracks. The Waiting Game and Vertigo are my heavy picks.
Nothing extraordinary, but notable as a rare example of it's kind to come from Austria at the time, a country which seems to have missed out entirely on hard rock and heavy metal in the '70s, but did have a decent punk/new wave scene at the tail-end.

O disco homônimo é composto por 10 curtas faixas que misturam folk rock acústico e tranquilo na maioria do tempo, com doses acentuadas de country e até blues, soando um pouco comercial em momentos. As músicas são marcadas por bonito vocal, vários coros e instrumental simples, com violão, guitarra, gaita de boca e piano.
Talvez seja mais interessante pela raridade do que pela qualidade apresentada, mas ainda recomendado para fãs de folk e country rock.

Obscure gem coming from Calgary, city of Canada. Virtually nothing is known about the band Windjam, including its members. They launched an only and rare album in 1974 by small Westmount and disappeared from the map.
The eponymous album consists of 10 short tracks that mix acoustic folk rock, with strong doses of country and even blues, sounding a little comercial at times. The songs are marked by beautiful vocals, various choirs and simple instrumental, with acoustic guitar, guitar, harmonica and piano.
Perhaps more interesting by its rarity than the presented quality, but still recommended to folk and country rock fans.

"One by One" brings 11 tracks, almost all with 2 or 3 minutes, mixing country rock with blues and light doses of psychedelia. The sound is simple and exciting, close to the other country album, beautiful melodies marked by good steel guitar, piano, violin and mandolin passages accompanied by male and female vocals. Emphasis on "Clear Blue Western Sky", "Roodle Deedle Dum", "Ripe Tomato Blues" and "Ships In Bottles".
Interesting work for country and blues rock fans, it is worth checking out!

O projeto (provavelmente apenas de estúdio) Swamp Salad juntou alguns músicos relativamente conhecidos na cena local, como os guitarrista Dave Donovan e Len Hutchinson, de origem australiana e neo-zelandesa. Deixaram como registros um álbum em compacto no mesmo ano, lançados pela Calendar e com presença da cantora Christine Barnett.
On the Country Line é dividido em 12 faixas curtas, sendo vários covers, que como sugerem o título, misturam influências do country, swamp, boogie, blues e até rock psicodélico norte americano. O som é simples e direto, alcançando seus melhores momentos no instrumental, com protagonismo das guitarras, alguns solos interessantes e wah-wah, acompanhados por consistente "cozinha" de bateria/ baixo. O vocal feminino aparece em 4 faixas, dando um toque interessante ao som, mas sem grande expressão. Quanto as faixas, destaque para "Take Me Back to Memphis", "Groovey Man Mangrove", "Country Line" e as viajantes "The Ballad of Creepy Creek" e "Aquarius".

The project (probably just studio) Swamp Salad joined some relatively known musicians in the local scene, as guitarist Dave Donovan and Len Hutchinson, from Australia and New Zealand. They left as records a single and one album in same year, launched by Calendar and with presence of singer Christine Barnett.
"On the Country Line" is divided into 12 short tracks, with various covers, which as the title suggests, mix influences of country, swamp, boogie, blues and even psychedelic rock, close to American bands. The sound is simple and straightforward, reaching its best moments in the instrumental, with protagonism of the guitars, some interesting solos and wah-wah, accompanied by consistent drums/ bass lines. The female vocal appears in 4 trakcs, giving an interesting touch, but without much expression. As for the tracks, notably "Take Me Back to Memphis", "Groovey Mangrove Man," "Country Line", "The Ballad of Creepy Creek" and "Aquarius".
Nothing essential, but a good choice for country and boogie rock fans.
