Absolute mega-rarity, an incredible discovery and the ultimate folk-psych artifact unearthed directly from Teheran! Female vocalist Pari Zangeneh recorded this really amazing album in 1976 with a full backing band, covering a number of traditional Persian folk songs and giving them a lovely psychedelic flavor. Beautiful strings, flutes, really charming and tasty drumming, some organ and orchestration, percussion. A truly fantastic album, and one of the rarest folk-psych records

FUNK ROCK - BLACK CATS - A Chili Pum / Marcella - 1974

Pérola formada em Teerã, capital do Irã no fim dos anos 60. O grupo Black Cats lançou um único compacto na Turquia em 1974, há também um edição local, sem mais informações. Seus membros são desconhecidos e provavelmente a banda se desfez após a Revolução de 1979. O single traz as faixas "A Chili Pum", versão de uma conhecida versão tradicional e "Marcella", ótimo cover (instrumental) do funk "The Chicken", de James Brown, com boa passagem de metais, baixo e bateria.

Pearl formed in Tehran, capital of Iran, in the late 60. The Black Cats released only one single in Turkey in 1974, there is also a local issue without more information. Its members are unknown and probably the band disbanded after Revolution in 1979. The single brings the tracks "The Chili Pum" version of a well-known traditional song and "Marcella", great cover of James Brown's "The Chicken", all instrumental with good passage of metals, bass and drums.

FUNK/ RAGA ROCK - ABBAS MEHRPOUYA - Soul Raga / Ghabile-Ye Leili - 2010 (197?)

Pérola vinda do Irã, o músico Abbas Mehrpouya (مهرپویا em persa) nasceu na capital Teerã em 1928 e conseguiu sucesso no país antes da Revolução Islâmica de 1979, quando lançou vários compactos. Após sua morte em 93, várias coletâneas e novas músicas dele estão sendo lançadas, sendo o caso desse compacto que posto aqui. 

O single lançado em 2010 pela Finders Keepers traz as músicas "Soul Raga" e "Ghabile-Ye Leili", ambas sem ano certo de gravação, provavelmente começo dos anos 70, e também os músicos que acompanham Mehrpouya são desconhecidos. A faixa lado A merece destaque, com riff  "surrupiado" de "Hope You're Feeling Better", do Santana, mas trazendo interessante mistura de funk, psicodelia, rock latino e música árabe/ indiana (raga rock), com presença de órgão elétrico, sitar e flauta. A segunda canção também está na linha funk/ psych rock, com guitarra wah-wah e vocal em persa. 

Um verdadeiro caldeirão de estilos, recomendado para fãs de raga/funk/psych rock, uma introdução ao som de Mehrpouya!

Pearl from Iran, the musician Abbas Mehrpouya  (مهرپویا in Persian) was born in the capital Tehran in 1928 and achieved success in the country before 1979, when released several singles. After his death in 93, several compilations and new songs are being released. 

The single I post here was released in 2010 by Finders Keepers and brings the songs "Soul Raga" and "Ghabile-Ye Leili", both without right recording year, probably early 70s, and also the musicians accompanying Mehrpouya are unknown. Segundo volume da compilação Waking Up Scheherazade, lançado em 2010. Pérolas raríssimas vinda da Síria, Egito, Sudão, Marrocos, Líbano e Irã! Os grupos foram ativos durante a segunda metade dos anos 60 e alguns continuaram até o começo da década de 70.
As 14 músicas aqui presentes seguem a mesma linha da primeira compilação, beat rock de garagem típico dos anos 60, com fortes pegadas psicodélicas e música árabe (principalmente nos vocais e percussão). Guitarra fuzz e wah wah aparece bastante, seguido pelo órgão e sax/ flauta. Ótimo registro dos primeiros tempos do rock/ pop entrando no Oriente médio e África. Second volume of the compilation Waking Up Scheherazade, released in 2010. Rare pearls from Syria, Egypt, Sudan, Morocco, Lebanon and Iran! The groups were active during the second half of 60s and some continued into the early 70s. 
The 14 songs presented here follow the same line of the first compilation, beat rock typical '60s garage, psychedelic with Arabic music (especially on vocals and percussion). Guitar fuzz and wah wah appear quite, followed by organ and sax / flute. Great record of the early days of rock / pop entering the Middle East and Africa.

Compilação cheia de pérolas do norte da África e Oriente Médio, países com pouca ou nenhuma tradição no rock, como Líbano, Argélia, Irã, Armênia e outros (vejam abaixo na track list). A compilação Waking Up Scheherazade teve 2 volumes, o primeiro que posto aqui, de 2007 e o segundo em 2010. São de grupos pequenos da região, ativos na segunda metade da década de 60, alguns moveram para os EUA e lançaram LPs ou compactos, mas nada com grande sucesso.
As 16 músicas aqui presentes seguem o gênero beat psicodélico de garagem dos anos 60, com claras influencias de Beatles e Stones e ritmos da arábia. Guitarra fuzz aparece em vários momentos, assim como o órgão e instrumentos típicos da região, como percussão. As letras são na maioria em inglês, mas com forte sotaque e outras ainda em árabe e francês.
Compilação perfeita para fãs do arab rock, rock psicodélico de garagem e para quem quer conhecer sobre o rock naquela região. Segundo volume aqui.

Compilation full of gems from North Africa and the Middle East, such as Lebanon, Algeria and Iran. Waking Up Scheherazade had two volumes, the first that I post here, 2007 and the second in 2010. Small groups of the region, active in the second half of the 60s.
The 16 songs presented here follow the genre psychedelic/ garage beat of '60s and rhythms of arabia. PSYCHEDELIC FOLK - KOUROSH YAGHMAEI - Hajme Khali / Akhm Nakon - 1974

Pérola vinda do Oriente Médio, mais precisamente do Irã. Kourosh Yaghmaei (يغمائي کورش ) é um cantor e músico nascido em Shahrud, e que começou na música jovem durantes os anos 60, com pequenos de grupos de beat e pop no país. Já nos anos 70 Yaghmaei partiu para carreira solo e lançou vários singles na década de 70, conseguindo sucesso na época. Após a revolução islâmica, em 1979, Kourosh foi proibido de cantar e se apresentar por quase 20 anos, apenas na década de 90 ele voltou e em 2011 um álbum foi lançado com suas antigas canções da década de 70, com o nome de Back From the Brink. É considerado um pioneiro e o "vovô" do rock no Irã.
Posto aqui um simples compacto dele, de 1974, com as músicas Hajme Khali (sem volume) e Akhm Nakon (não fique bravo), trazendo uma interessante mistura de rock psicodélico, com fortes raízes na música local e algumas influencias da música dos anos 60 (beat). Boa presença de bateria, guitarra fuzz e letras em persa marcam o som do cara.

Rarity of Iran, Kourosh Yaghmaei is a singer and musician who began playing rock and pop in the '60s. In the 70 Yaghmaei released several singles in the solo. It pioneered the country rock. 
Post here a single, of 1974 with the songs Hajme Khali and Akhm Nakon, bringing an interesting mix of psychedelic rock, with strong roots in the local music and some influences of 60s music (beat). Good presence of drums, guitar fuzz and Persian letters mark the sound of him.

HEAVY PSYCH/ BLUES - JOKERS - Same - 2011 (1972)

Pérola vinda do Irã! Antes da Revolução Islâmica no país do Oriente Médio algumas bandas e artistas de rock e pop surgiram no país, quase todas na capital Teerã. Essa é a história do trio Jokers, que foi formado em 1970 após a visita do guitarrista e vocalista Vaheed à Inglaterra, que após retornar ao Irã, formou o trio junto com Comran (baixo) e Afshin (bateria). O grupo nunca lançou um álbum ou mesmo compacto nos poucos anos de atividade durante a primeira metade dos anos 70, apenas em 2011 quatro músicas gravadas pelo trio em 1972 foram lançadas em CD e vinil pela Strawberry Rain, também com poucas cópias.
O homônimo lançado em 2011 é formado por apenas 4 faixas, totalizando menos de 30 minutos, trazendo um típico blues psicodélico pesado dos anos 60/70, muito influenciado por Cream e Hendrix, muito longe de qualquer outro tipo de som que já saiu do país. Instrumental dominado pela barulhenta guitarra fuzz e bateria quebrando tudo, com forte pegada amadora e "garageira". Vocal potente, gritado e letras em inglês também marcam o álbum.
No geral, um rock'n'roll cru e alucinado, sem ficar devendo para nenhuma banda americano e britânica. Pérola altamente recomendada para quem curte rock psicodélico/blues.

Pearl coming from Iran! Before the Islamic Revolution in the Middle Eastern country a few bands and rock and pop artists emerged in the country, almost all in the capital Tehran.
