Comentário: Um dos discos mais raros já vindos de Israel, lançado pela pequena Krypton (mesmo selo que lançou a banda Zingale), este foi um projeto de curta duração do guitarrista Avrey Sharron com outros músicos locais. Dividido em 6 faixas, maioria curtas e todas instrumentais, o quarteto apresenta um jazz profundo e variando entre momentos pausados e contemplativos e outros dinâmicos e próximos do funk/ soul jazz, incluindo uma versão de "O Morro", de Tom Jobim e Vinícius de Moraes. A guitarra guia todas as canções, acompanhada por passagens competentes de piano e seção rítmica.
Um dos ótimos presentes de Israel para fãs de jazz fusion e funk, recomendado!

Sweet electric funk from the Tel Aviv scene of the 70s – a real rarity on vinyl, and a set that has a soulful groove to match the best American albums of the time! Guitarist Avrey Sharron has a lean line with a nice sense of space – especially nice on some of the mellower, moodier numbers – but also aflutter with colorful tunes at some more upbeat spots too! His guitar is the main instrument in the lead, alongside bass and drums – but one track also features loads of excellent electric piano from Doodie Rosenthal, who works with Sharron on a killer ten minute take on "This Masquerade". Other tracks include "Black Sunshine", "Ruthie's Waltz", "Oasis", and "O Morro".

Dividido em 6 faixas, todas instrumentais, traz releituras de canções tradicionais árabes e hebraicas em forma de avant-garde jazz e com doses de Swing, influenciado pelo som norte-americano da década anterior. Com trabalho competente e envolvente de seus músicos, este registro com certeza agradá fãs dos estilos citados.

East meets west on this long-lost and super rare 1973 jazz album from Israel. Headed by Albert Piamenta , “The Jazz Workshop” was a group of jazz pioneers from the Middle East who sought to make the connection between the countries of their up-bringing and the hardcore New York jazz sound of the 60’s. Druze, Arab and Jewish folk compositions interpreted in a deep, mystical yet thumping manner, making this an absolute gem for jazz collectors and DJs alike.

BLUES/ CLASSIC ROCK - GARY ECKSTEIN - Same - 1979

Gary Eckstein (גרי אקשטיין) é um cantor, músico e compositor nascido em 1948 em Israel. Começou sua carreira na música em pequenos grupos locais ainda nos anos 60, mas lançou seu primeiro disco solo apenas em 1977, sendo seguido por breve período de sucesso local no início da década seguinte. Eckstein possui uma longa discografia, onde "passeou" por diversos estilos, ele ainda segue na ativa, mesmo que sem grande intensidade.
Posto este homônimo que parece ser seu segundo álbum, lançado originalmente em 1979. É composto por 13 faixas predominantemente curtas, tendo como estilo primário o blues e rock clássico tradicional, soando como se fosse de alguns anos antes. O instrumental é muito competente, quase levando a esquecer as letras incompreensíveis em hebraico, onde Gary mostra todo seu talento na guitarra, muitas vezes acompanhada pelo violão e gaita, ainda com bons teclados, que ficam no "background" e aparecem em alguns momentos para solo, dando certas doses de prog ao disco.
Uma das melhores pérolas vindas de Israel na época, sólida e muito bem executada. Altamente recomendado!

Gary Eckstein (גרי אקשטיין) is a singer, musician and composer born in 1948 in Israel. He began his career in music in small local groups in the 60s, but released his first solo album only in 1977, followed by some local success period at the beginning of the next decade. Eckstein has a long discography, he is still active, but without the same intensity.
The self-titled seems to be his second album, originally released in 1979. It consists of 13, predominantly short, tracks, with primary blues and classic rock style, sounding like it was recorded a few years before. The instrumental is very competent, almost forgetting me about the lyrics in Hebrew, where Gary shows all his talent on the guitar, often accompanied by acoustic guitar and harmonica, even with good keyboards, which are in the "background" and appear at times to a solo, giving certain doses prog. One of the best Israeli gems at the time, solid and very well executed. Highly recommended!

PROG/ FUSION - FOURTEEN OCTAVES - Same - 1975

Pérola vinda de Israel, Fourteen Octaves foi um projeto de vida curta, que surgiu em 1974 a partir dos pianistas Yoni Rech (ex-Kaveret) e Avner Kenner, o trio era integrado também pelo baterista Zohar Levi. Após algumas apresentações ao vivo, gravaram este único e raro álbum, com presença de músicos locais de grupos como Apocalypse e Ktzat Acheret. O disco foi relançado em 1994 (CD) e em 2008 houve uma breve reunião dos grupo.
O homônimo de 1975 traz 12 faixas curtas que combinam influências fusion e cool jazz, rock progressivo (Gentle Giant é um influência notável) e até música clássica. O som é muito bem trabalhado em torno dos pianos e teclados, além de passagens de violino e bateria, com grande qualidade individual e clima tranquilo e pacífico na maioria do tempo. As letras são em hebraico e inglês, tratando sobre temas variados, como românticos, filosóficos e tristeza.
Um disco sólido, "relax" e interessante para fãs de jazz fusion com pegada progressiva.

Fourteen Octaves' is a project that was born from the collaboration between two young musicians - Avner Kenner and Yoni Rechter, who were in the midst of a search for their true musical identity. Kenner describes the project as a raw and unripe search for complexity, the attempt to escape from the daily musical routine while actually having something interesting to say. The warm and minimalist production does justice for the precise and emotional compositions. The lyrics deal with some diverse and contradictive aspects of life. Occasionally they are childish and silly, and on other occasions philosophical, romantic, and descriptive of sadness and depression. The musical influences include the unusual style of Gentle Giant, cool jazz, classical chamber music and popular music, a combination which creates a homogeneous and unique fusion that is unheard of. During the same period of this album's release, there were quite a few artists that engaged in musical experimentations while trying to achieve a unique sound. This album manages to stand out, though it hasn't had any commercial success. It is a direct product of a genuine agenda to alter reality with focused work and self-sacrifice, and despite many changes throughout the years, it still manages to sound interesting and fresh, thanks to those efforts.

PSYCHEDELIC ROCK - SHMULIK KRAUS - A Criminal Record - 1977

Pérola vinda de Israel, o músico, compositor e cantor Shmulik Kraus (שמוליק קראוס‎) nasceu em 1935 em Jerusalém. Começou sua carreira na música no fim dos anos 50, participando de importantes grupos locais como The High Windows, além de várias parcerias. Em 1971 foi preso por porte ilegal de arma, lá ele compôs todas as músicas do seu único álbum solo, gravado em um curto período de saída temporária, mas lançado apenas 6 anos mais tarde. Kraus faleceu em 2013, com 77 anos.
O disco A Criminal Record, de 1977, traz apenas 6 faixas que combinam rock clássico, psicodélico, blues e folk, considerado um dos melhores trabalhos do rock "underground" local, contando ainda com o guitarrista Haim Romano (ex-Churchills). O som é simples, mas interessante, com bons arranjos que combinam guitarra (fuzz) e violão, bateria e baixo acompanhando o vocal rasgado de Kraus, em hebraico, e passando um pouco da atmosfera que o músico vivia na época. Os destaque ficam para "Hot Friday", "Who Are We?" e uma versão de Beatles com "Mother Nature", de 11 minutos.
Talvez um pouco estranho para primeira audição, mas recomendo essa pérola para fãs de rock clássico.

"Completely devoid of any digital trickery, A Criminal Record is very much a product of its time, with a laid-back vibe and ramshackle sound created by a makeshift band. It is also one of the most unique and fantastic undiscovered albums from the most fertile era of rock ‘n’ roll. According to the liner notes to the 1977 full-length EP released by Hataklit (prior to that, the songs had been released as individual singles), the bulk of the album was created while Kraus sat alone in his cell, humming melodies to himself.
A few days later Kraus was granted a 48-hour leave from his jail cell, and he went straight to a recording studio, where he had gathered some of Israel’s best rock and jazz musicians, including Haim Romano, the guitarist from the country’s first psychedelic band, The Churchills. The recording was completed in two hours. Kraus was released from prison on bail a week later, and the album, containing six freewheeling psych-folk tunes seemingly influenced by Bob Dylan and American garage rock, was released in May of 1971 to very little public notice."

CLASSIC ROCK - SHALOM HANOCH - Shalom - 1971

Mais uma pérola vinda de Israel, o cantor e compositos Shalom Hanoch é um dos mais importantes e pioneiros nomes do rock no país, participando de vários grupos e com longa carreira solo. Shalom nasceu em Mishmarot nos anos 40, começando sua carreira na música no fim dos anos 60 em clubes de Tel Aviv. Durante seu curto tempo em Londres, no começo dos anos 70, lançou o primeiro disco solo pela DJM e logo após voltou para sua terra natal onde continuou novos projetos. Ainda está na ativa, com CD mais recente de 2009.
Posto aqui o debut de 1971, "Shalom", com 11 faixas curtas de típico rock'n'roll dos anos 70, com todas as letras em inglês e influências de grandes nomes da época. Leves influências de música árabe, psicodélico e prog aparecem, mas o clima é na maioria do tempo acústico, com bonitos coros e violão. Outros instrumentos como teclados, saxofone e guitarra aparecem esporadicamente, mas muito bem. Destaque nas faixas "End of the Road", "Take off my Shoes", "Peaceful Love" e "You Do Need Some Sleep".
No geral, nada de novo ou arrasador, mas um bom álbum para fãs de rock clássico.

Another pearl coming from Israel, the performer and composer Shalom Hanoch is one of the most important and pioneering rock names in the country, participating in various groups and long solo career. Shalom was born in Mishmarot during 40s, starting his career in music in the late 60 clubs in Tel Aviv. During his short time in London, in the early '70s, released the first solo album by DJM and soon after returned to his homeland where he continued new projects. Is still active, with most recent CD of 2009. 
Post here the 1971 debut with 11 short tracks of typical 70s rock'n'roll, with all English lyrics and influences from the greats of the era. Light influences from Arabic, psychedelic and prog music appear, but the climate is mostly acoustic time with beautiful choruses and acoustic guitar. Other instruments as keyboards, saxophone and guitar appear occasionally, but very good. Featured on the track "End of the Road", "Take off my Shoes", "Peaceful Love" and "You Do Need Some Sleep". 
Overall, nothing new or overwhelming, but a good album for fans of classic rock.

PROGRESSIVE FOLK - KTZAT ACHERET - Ktzat Acheret/No Names - 1974

Pérola vinda de Israel, o trio Ktzat Acheret (em hebraico קצת אחרת) foi formado em 1974 em Tel Aviv por nomes que acabaram se tornando conhecidos no prog local, como Shlomo Gronich, que já havia lançado um disco solo anos antes. A banda teve período de atividades muito curto, se findando no ano seguinte, mas deixou um único e pouco conhecido registro em 74.
O álbum homônimo, mas também traduzido como "No Names" traz 12 faixas curtas de rock progressivo bem elaborado e sofisticado, na maioria do tempo acústico e tranquilo, fortemente influenciado por folk e ainda música árabe, jazz, avant e sinfônico. Os músicos tem grande qualidade, comprovada no rico instrumental, contando com flauta, órgão, piano, sintetizadores, percussão, guitarra e violões aparecendo muito bem em vários momentos. As letras são em hebraico e falando sobre o dia-dia local e os conflitos na região. Recomendo que ouçam todas as faixas, pois quase não há momentos fracos aqui.
Uma bela pérola para fãs de folk progressivo, recomendado!

Pearl coming from Israel, the trio Ktzat Acheret (Hebrew קצת אחרת) was formed in 1974 in Tel Aviv by local know prog musicians, as Shlomo Gronich, who had released a solo disc years before. The band had a very short activities, disbanding next year, but left an only and little-known record in 74. 
The self-titled album, also translated as "No Names" features 12 short tracks of well designed and sophisticated progressive rock, mostly acoustic and quiet, heavily influenced by folk and even Arabic music, jazz, avant and symphonic. The musicians have great quality, proven in rich instrumental , with flute, organ, piano, synthesizers, percussion, acoustic guitars appearing very well at various times. The lyrics are in Hebrew and talking about the day to day and place conflicts in the region. I recommend you to listen all tracks, because there is almost no weak moments here. A beautiful gem for fans of progressive folk, recommended!
