HARD ROCK - TARKUS - Same - 1972

Tarkus foi uma pérola vinda do Peru. Formada na capital Lima em 1972, a banda tinha como integrantes peruanos o vocalista e guitarrista Alex Nathanson e baterista Walo Carillo, ambos ex-Telegraph Avenue e para completar os argentinos Guillermo Van Lacke, no baixo e Dario Gianella, guitarra. O grupo teve uma carreira "meteórica", durando menos de 1 ano, mesmo assim um álbum foi lançado em 72. Em 2007 o integrante Walo Carrillo e o filho de Guillermo Van Lacke, Christian Van Lacke se reuniram para alguns shows no país, a partir daí surgiu o projeto Tlön, que ainda está na ativa, seguindo a mesma linha de som do Tarkus. O grupo foi também um dos pioneiros do rock pesado e dos primórdios do heavy metal na América Latina.
O homônimo de 1972 traz um hard rock muito competente, consistente e original para a época, contando ainda com algumas influencias de acid rock do fim dos anos 60. As letras são todas em espanhol, com 8 faixas curtas, mas com guitarras pesadas, ótimos riffs, bateria "nervosa" e vocal agressivo. Percebe-se claramente influências de Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath e Pappo Blues. Som cru e pesado, caracterizam bem essa joia do rock sul americano.
Pérola altamente recomendada para fãs do "hardão setentista".

Tarkus was a pearl coming from Peru. Formed in the capital Lima in 1972, the band had as members Peruvian vocalist and guitarist Alex Nathanson and Walo Carillo drummer , both ex-former Telegraph Avenue and to complete the Argentines Guillermo Van Lacke, on bass Dario Gianella, guitar . The group had a short career , lasting less than one year , even so an album was released in 72 . The group was also a pioneer of hard rock and early heavy metal in Latin America .
The eponymous of 1972 brings a hard rock very competent, consistent and unique for the time and we also have some influences of acid rock of the late '60s . The lyrics are all in Spanish , with 8 short tracks, but with heavy guitars, great riffs, "nervous" drums and aggressive vocals . It is clearly influenced by Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Pappo Blues . Sound is raw and heavy, well characterize this jewel of South American rock .
Pearl highly recommended for fans of heavy rock from the 70s.

PSYCHEDELIC FOLK - 9:30 FLY - Same - 1972

Pérola obscura formada na cidade de Cheltenham, Inglaterra, no começo dos anos 70, o 9:30 Fly lançou apenas um raro álbum em 1972 e depois sumiu do mapa.
O grupo traz no seu homônimo um típico folk rock inglês da época, muito influenciado pelo rock psicodélico e também progressivo. Bons arranjos, momentos suaves e outros de mais peso se revezam nos 40 minutos do álbum, destaque para o violão que tem ótima presença e excelente vocal masculino e feminino do casal Michael e Barbara Wainwright marcam o som do 9:30 Fly. Destaque também para as faixas Mr. 509, Brooklyn Thoughts e Life and Times.
Nada extraordinário, mas uma boa pérola, altamente recomendada para fãs de acid folk.

Obscure pearl formed in the town of Cheltenham, England, in the early 70s. 9:30 Fly just released a rare album in 1972 and then dropped off the map.
The group brings in its Self Titled a typical English folk rock of the era, heavily influenced by psychedelic and progressive rock too. Good arrangements, soft times and other more weight take turns in 40 minutes of the album, especially the guitar that has great presence and excellent male and female vocal of the couple Michael and Barbara Wainwright mark the sound of Fly 9:30. Highlights also tracks Mr. 509, Brooklyn Thoughts and Life and Times.
Nothing extraordinary, but a good pearl, highly recommended for fans of acid folk.

HARD ROCK - THE TENDERFOOT KIDS - Choo-Choo / Man in Black - 1970

Mais uma raridade vinda da Bélgica, o Tenderfoot Kids infelizmente nunca chegou a lançar um LP, apenas meia dúzia de compactos no fim da década de 60 e começo de 70, todos muito raros. Algumas músicas do grupo aparecem em recentes compilações sobre raridades do rock belga daquela época. Posto aqui um dos melhores e último lançamento deles: Choo-Choo e Man in Black, single com um bom e poderoso hard rock, sem deixar de lado as influências psicodélicas. Destaque para boa presença de guitarra e vocal.
Sem dúvida essa pérola poderia ter lançado um ótimo álbum na época. Não deixe de ouvir outras canções dos caras.

Rarity coming from Belgium, Tenderfoot Kids unfortunately never got to release an LP, only half a dozen singles in the late 60s and early 70s, all very rare. Some songs of the group appear in recent compilations of rarities Belgian rock of that era. Post here one of their best and latest release: Choo-Choo and Man in Black, a single with good and powerful hard rock, without leaving psychedelic influences. Highlighting the presence of good guitar and vocals.
No doubt that pearl could have released a great album at the time. Be sure to listen to other songs of the guys.

Pérola vinda da Bélgica, formada nos anos 60 por jovens o Climax (ou The Climax) nunca chegou a lançar um LP nos seus poucos anos de atividade, apenas alguns compactos no começo da década de 70, na maioria com covers. Posto aqui um dos primeiros deles: o single You... I, com as músicas Vancouver City e You... I, esta última cover do grupo americano The Rugbys, que trazem um típico rock psicodélico do fim dos anos 60, com uma pegada bastante "garageira" e influenciada por beat/pop rock. Legal para conhecer.

HEAVY PSYCH - SCORPION - I Am the Scorpion - 1970

Pérola vinda da Suécia, o Scorpion (não confundam com a banda americana de mesmo nome que lançou um álbum em 1969) foi formado no fim da década de 60 como projeto do vocalista Bo Anders Larsson e lançou apenas um raro LP em 1970 produzido por Kim Fowley, sem conseguir sucesso o grupo acabou pouco tempo depois.
O som da banda traz um típico hard rock do começo da década de 70, meio comercial e muito influenciado pelo rock psicodélico "hippie" dos EUA e beat rock britânico. A guitarra tem alguns bons solos e riffs, as letras são todas em inglês, mas carregadas de sotaque. Destaque para as faixas "Hey Girl I'm Ugly", "Sagitarius" e "Red Queen of the Underground"
Nada extraordinário, mas um bom dico para fãs de rock psicodélico.

Pearl coming from Sweden, Scorpion (do not confuse with the American band with the same name) was formed in the late 60s as a project of singer Bo Anders Larsson and only released a rare LP in 1970 produced by Kim Fowley, without achieve success the group ended shortly thereafter.
The band's sound brings a typical hard rock of the early 70s, through trade and heavily influenced by "hippie" psychedelic rock U.S. and British beat rock. The guitar has some good solos and riffs, the lyrics are all in English, but loaded accent. Highlight the tracks "Hey Girl I'm Ugly", "Sagitarius" and "Red Queen of the Underground"
Nothing extraordinary, but a good physician for fans of psychedelic rock.

PSYCHEDELIC ROCK - AHORA MAZDA - Same - 1970

Pérola formada em Amsterdã, capital da Holanda em 1965 pelo flautista e saxofonista Rob van Wageningen e pelos irmãos Peter (baixo) e Winky Abbink (bateria) originalmente voltada ao jazz, após a entrada do baixista Tony Schreuder em 1968 a banda volta o seu som para o rock psicodélico, mas ainda assim muito influenciado pelo improvisação e jazz. O grupo lançou um único álbum em 1970 e acabou apenas um ano após o lançamento do homônimo, que foi relançado com faixas bônus em 1999.
O som da banda traz uma excelente mescla de vários estilos, principalmente rock psicodélico e jazz, tendo alguns momentos progressivo, hard e space rock ou até avant-prog. Conta com 6 faixas (vinil original), na maioria longas e algumas extensas improvisações. No instrumental o destaque fica para boas passagens de flauta, sax e guitarra, outros instrumentos como órgão, piano, trompete e percussão em geral também dão um "toque a mais" ao álbum, o vocal em inglês cheio de sotaque também merece destaque. Já as 5 faixas bônus são apenas curtas improvisações.
No geral, uma pérola excelente, altamente recomendada para fãs de rock psicodélico e de rock obscuro em geral.

Pearl formed in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1965 by flautist and saxophonist Rob van Wageningen and by brothers Peter (bass) and Winky Abbink (drums) originally focused on jazz, after the entry of bassist Tony Schreuder in 1968 the band back their sound to psychedelic rock, but still very influenced by jazz and improvisation . The group released one album in 1970 and split only a year after the release of the same name, which was reissued with bonus tracks in 1999 .
The band's sound brings an excellent mix of various styles , mainly jazz and psychedelic rock , with some moments of progressive, hard and space rock or even avant - prog . It features 6 tracks ( original vinyl ) , mostly long and lengthy improvisations and some good passages of flute, sax and guitar . Instruments such as organ, piano, trumpet and percussion in general also provide an " extra touch " to the instrumental part, vocal full of accent English is also noteworthy. As for the 5 bonus tracks are just short improvisations .
Overall, a great pearl , highly recommended for fans of psychedelic rock and obscure rock in general.

SYMPHONIC PROG - TRITONUS - Between the Universes - 1976

Pérola vinda da Alemanha, formada pelo tecladista Peter K. Seiler em 1972, o Tritonus chegou a lançar dois álbuns durante seus 7 anos de atividade, até acabar em 1979. No seu disco de lançamento, de 1975 a banda tinha um som mais focado no rock clássico tradicional, mas sem conseguir muito sucesso Seiler mudou dois membros do grupo e assim lançaram Between the Universes.
O disco de 1976 é considerado o melhor álbum dos caras e tem som voltado ao rock progressivo sinfônico e eletrônico, muito "cósmico" e viajante. Conta com apenas 3 longas faixas dominadas por extensas passagens de sintetizadores (moog) e órgão, o baixo e bateria ficam no som ao fundo. O vocalista Geff Harrison (Kin Ping Meh, 2066 & Then) tem participação na primeira faixa. Destaque para Suburban Day Suite, bela canção de 17 minutos.
Nada de excepcional, mas uma pérola legal para conhecer, recomendada principalmente para fãs de progressivo sinfônico.

Pearl from Germany, formed by keyboardist Peter K. Seiler in 1972, Tritonus released two albums during their seven years of activity, until split in 1979. In its release disc, 1975 the band had a sound more focused on traditional classic rock, but without achieving much success Seiler changed two members of the group and thus launched Between the Universes.

The disc 1976 is considered the best album of the guys and have sound back to progressive rock and electronic, very "cosmic" and traveler. It has only 3 tracks long dominated by long passages of synths (moog) and organ, bass and drums are the sound in the background. The singer Geff Harrison (Kin Ping Meh, 2066 & Then) has participation in the first track. Highlight for Suburban Day Suite, beautiful song of 17 minutes.
Nothing exceptional, but a pearl nice to know, especially recommended for fans of symphonic progressive.

KRAUTROCK - DEAF - Alpha - 1994 (1969-72)

Obscura pérola formada na Suíça no fim da década de 60. O Deaf nasceu como projeto do vocalista e guitarrista Dany Rühle e do organista Jelly Pastorini, ambos ex-membros da banda de rock psicodélico suíça The Shiver. Infelizmente o grupo não conseguiu lançar nenhum álbum ou mesmo compacto nos seus três anos de atividade, apenas alguns jams foram gravados nos anos de 71 e 72, o tempo passou e só em 1994 a gravadora Black Rills lançou uma coletânea em vinil e com número bastante limitado de cópias, com o nome de Alpha, trazendo 4 longas faixas gravadas ao vivo ou em estúdio.
O som dos caras trazia um rock altamente experimental, com longas passagens instrumentais, típico do Krautrock, que mesmo tendo sua origem e auge na Alemanha, se espalhou para alguns países vizinhos e o Deaf foi uma dessas bandas não-alemãs do estilo. Elementos do rock progressivo tradicional, jazz e sons viajantes do rock psicodélico/ space também estão presentes. As quatro músicas variam entre momentos calmos, melódicos e outros mais barulhentos e até "esquizofrênicos", o instrumental domina quase todo o disco, as vezes algumas vozes são ouvidas ao fundo. Destaque para boas passagens de teclado, órgão, percussão e flauta. Quanto as faixas, apesar de ser consistente, sem nenhuma música ruim, a mais longa do disco merece ênfase: Alpha, única do lado B e na casa de 22 minutos.
Pérola altamente recomendada para quem gosta de rock experimental e krautrock.

Obscure pearl formed in Switzerland in the late 60's. Deaf was "born" as a project of vocalist and guitarist Dany Rühle and organist Jelly Pastorini, both ex-members of the psychedelic rock band The Shiver . Unfortunately the group didn't release any albums in its three years of activity, only a few jams were recorded in the years 71 and 72 and only in 1994 the label Rills Black released a compilation vinyl and with quite number limited copies, named Alpha, bringing four long tracks recorded live or in the studio.
The sound of the guys brought a highly experimental rock with long instrumental passages , typical of Krautrock. Traditional elements of progressive rock, jazz and trippy moments of psychedelic rock / space are also present . The four songs vary between quiet , melodic  moments and more noisy and even " schizophrenic ", the instrumental dominates almost the entire record , sometimes some voices are heard in the background . Highlight for good passages of keyboard, organ, percussion and flute. As for the tracks , despite being consistent with no bad music, the longest of the album worth emphasis: Alpha , single B-side and with more than 22 minutes .
Pearl highly recommended for those who like experimental rock and krautrock .

HARD ROCK - GIPSY LOVE - Same - 1972

Pérola formada em Viena, capital da Áustria em 1971. O Gipsy Love teve um período de atividade muito curto (apenas dois anos) mesmo assim o grupo conseguir gravar e lançar dois álbuns, ambos em 1972. Após a saída do guitarrista Karl Ratzer, em 1973, a banda se separou. O Gipsy também tinha como tecladista o músico austríaco Peter Wolf.
Posto aqui o primeiro e homônimo álbum de 72. Apesar de ser classificado como Krautrock, o som da banda é muito mais próximo do típico hard rock do começo da década de 70, na maioria do tempo "suave" e melódico (soft rock), com algumas influências de rock progressivo, lembrando em vários momentos bandas da vizinha Alemanha, como Birth Control. O teclado, órgão e guitarra aparecem muito bem em alguns momentos, a voz de George Doggette não agrada muito e as letras são todas em inglês.
No geral, nada excepcional ou muito diferente do som da época, mas uma pérola recomendada para quem gosta de hard rock dos anos 70.

Pearl formed in Vienna, capital of Austria in 1971. The Gipsy Love had a very short period of activity (only two years) even so the group recorded and released two albums, both in 1972. After the departure of guitarist Karl Ratzer, in 1973, the band split.
Post here first and eponymous album 72. Despite being classified as Krautrock, the band's sound is much closer to the typical hard rock of the early '70s, most of the time soft and melodic rock, with some influences of prog, resembling in many moments bands from Germany, as Birth Control. The keyboard, organ and guitar appear well at times, the voice of George doggette does not bode well and the lyrics are all in English.
Overall, nothing exceptional or very different from the sound of the time, but a pearl recommended for those who like hard rock of the 70s.

PROG FOLK - Spilverk Þjóðanna - Sturla - 1977

Raríssima pérola vinda da Islândia! O Spilverk Þjóðanna  foi formado em 1973 por jovens da capital Reykjavík, a banda chegou a gravar 6 álbuns durante a década até sumir no mapa em 1979, vendo a discografia deles imagina-se que conseguiram algum sucesso na terra natal. Mesmo assim pouca informação se tem sobre o grupo na internet, e a maioria ainda está em islandês.
Posto aqui um dos últimos discos deles: Strurla, de 1977, provavelmente o com maior presença de rock do quarteto. O som do Spilverk, assim como a maioria das bandas do país na época, tem forte influência da música típica da região (folk), misturado com o rock inglês, principalmente progressivo. Bons momentos de guitarra e teclados, presença também de violino e violão são destaque do instrumental. Os vocais são masculinos e femininos e todas as canções são cantadas na língua local. Destaque para as faixas "Sirkus Geira Smart", "Hæ hó", "Skandinavíu blues" og "Sturla".
Pérola recomendada para quem gosta de rock progressivo e folk.

Rare gem coming from Iceland! Spilverk Þjóðanna was formed in 1973 by young people from the capital Reykjavík, the band recorded 6 albums during the decade before disappearing in 1979. Little information exists about the group on the Internet, and most are still in Icelandic.
Post here their last but one album Strurla, of 1977. The sound of Spilverk, like most bands in the country at the time, has a strong influence of music typical of the region (folk) mixed with British rock , especially progressive. Good times of electric guitar and keyboards, also the presence of violin and acoustic guitar are featured the instrumental . The vocals are male and female and all songs are sung in the local language . Highlight tracks " Sirkus Geira Smart " , " Hae Hockey " , " Skandinavíu blues" og " Sturla " .
Pearl recommended for those who like progressive rock and folk .
