PSYCHEDELIC ROCK - VÄNTOREL - Ma olen nahktiibadega Väntorel - 1997 (1971)

Pérola muito desconhecida e rara, vinda da Estônia socialista. O Väntorel foi um grupo que durou pouco mais de um ano, formado em 1970 na capital Tallinn originalmente com o nome de Keldriline Heli, a banda nunca chegou a lançar um LP ou compacto nos seus poucos meses de atividade, apenas em 1971 o grupo gravou várias faixas, que só vieram a ser lançadas em 1997, já em CD pela Salumuusik. Pouca informação se sabe sobre o grupo na internet, e a maioria ainda está em russo.
As 15 faixas trazem um bom rock psicodélico, com algumas influencias de prog e hard rock. Instrumental "pesado", com incríveis passagens e revezamento de órgão e guitarra distorcida, bem ao estilo Deep Purple, marcam esse som. O vocal é masculino e feminino, faixas cantadas na língua local também dão um toque mais especial as músicas (apenas Hot Sun é cantada em inglês).
Ótima pérola, rock pesado/ psicodélico de qualidade. Recomendado para fãs dos estilos.

Unknown and very rare pearl coming of socialist Estonia Väntorel was a group that lasted just over a year, formed in 1970 in the capital Tallinn originally under the name Keldriline Heli, the band never got to release an LP or compact in its few months of activity, only in 1971 the group recorded multiple tracks, which only came to be launched in 1997, now on CD for the Salumuusik. Little information is known about the group online, and most are still in Russian.
The 15 tracks bring a good psychedelic rock, with some influences of prog and hard rock. "Heavy" instrumental, with incredible passes of organ and distorted guitar, in Deep Purple style, mark the sound. The voice is male and female, tracks sung in the local language also give a more special  touch to the songs (only Hot Sun is sung in English).
Great pearl, quality heavy/psychedelic rock. Recommended for fans of the styles.

ZAM ROCK/ ACID - SALTY DOG - Same - 1976

Quando achei que todos os grupos de Zam Rock já haviam sido postados aqui no blog, eis que aparece mais uma pérola do país africano: Salty Dog. A banda foi uma das mais obscuras do movimento e surgiu "na onda" de grupos importantes da época, como Witch e Amanaz, foi formada no meio da década de 70 como trio e lançou apenas um homônimo em 1976, pela pequena gravadora local Zambezi, desaparecendo alguns anos depois. O tempo passou e o trio continuou na obscuridade, apenas em 2013 a o disco foi relançado em CD e vinil com faixas bônus pela Strawberry Rain, que vem relançando obscuros registros de bandas da África e Ásia. E assim aos poucos a história e a música do grupo começa a ser divulgadas na internet.

O som da banda traz o típico Zam Rock, muito influenciado pelo rock psicodélico e ácido americano e britânico da época, o blues rock e a música africana também tem algumas passagens. A guitarra fuzz sempre muito presente é o destaque na parte instrumental, bateria "agressiva" também tem ótimos momentos. Algumas faixas mais acústicas e românticas também podem ser ouvidas, como Try A Little Harder e Lullaby. As músicas são todas em inglês. Um álbum muito consistente, com várias ótimas faixas, destaque principal para as três primeiras: Fast, Mama e See The Storm.

Pérola altamente recomendada para fãs de Zam Rock e rock psicodélico.

Salty Dog was one of the more obscure bands of the Zam Rock movement, started influenced by important groups of the era, such as Witch and Amanaz. The group was formed in the mid-70s as a trio and released just an album in 1976, the small record Zambezi , disappearing after a few years . Time passed and the trio continued in obscurity, in 2013 the album was reissued on CD and vinyl with bonus tracks by Strawberry Rain.Now gradually the story and music of the group begins to be disclosed on the Internet .
The band's sound brings the typical Zam Rock, heavily influenced by American and British psychedelic/acid rock of the time, blues rock and African music also has some passages . The fuzz guitar always present is the highlight in the instrumental part, "aggressive" drums also has great moments. Some more acoustic and romantic tracks can also be heard as Try A Little Harder and Lullaby. The songs are all in English. A very consistent album, with several great tracks, main highlight for the first three : Fast , Mama and See The Storm.
Pearl highly recommended for fans of Zam Rock and psychedelic rock .

ACID FOLK - ERICA POMERANCE - You Used to Think - 1968

Obscura pérola vinda do Canadá. Erica Pomerance foi (ou é) uma cantora, produtora e poeta canadense de Montreal, em 1968 ela reuniu um grupo de músicos para a gravação do seu primeiro e único álbum, entre eles membros do grupo americano Octopus Dion Grody, Lanny Brooks e Craig Justen e outros como Billy Mitchel e Richie Heissler. Depois do lançamento a cantora sumiu do mapa e nunca mais lançou alguma coisa, pouca informação se sabe sobre ela, apenas em 2009 o álbum foi remasterizado e relançado em CD.
Seu disco, You Used to Think, traz uma forte e clara influencia do folk rock psicodélico feito principalmente na Inglaterra daquela época. Essa gravação traz de diferencial o som experimental, viajante e em momentos até hipinótico, expressado muito bem em faixas como Koanisphere e Anything Goes. O vocal é todo feminino, em inglês e em alguns pontos falado, outros cantado e até em momentos "chapado", com alguns gemidos e gritos ao fundo. Na parte instrumental o violão domina, acompanhado suavemente em algumas faixas pela flauta e sax; até a sitar, instrumento típico da música indiana, tem algumas tímidas passagens.
Pérola meio difícil de gostar, mas de muita qualidade. Altamente recomendado para fãs de acid folk.

Obscure pearl coming from Canada. Her album: You Used to Think, brings a strong and clear influences from folk psychedelic rock made ​​mostly in England at that time. This record brings experimental, traveller and even Hypnotic sounds, expressed very well on tracks like Koanisphere and Anything Goes. The vocals are all female, in English with spoken , sung and even other "stoned" moments , with some moans and screams in the background . Instrumental part in the guitar dominates, gently accompanied on some tracks by flute and sax, sitar have a few tickets shy .

JAZZ ROCK - J.F. MURPHY & FREE FLOWING SALT - Almost Home - 1970

Pérola norte-americana de Jazz rock, formada no final da década de 60 pelo cantor, compositor e guitarrista americano J.F. Murphy. Posto aqui o primeiro álbum do grupo, na época chamado J.F. Murphy & Free Flowing Salt, que depois viria mudar para JF Murphy & Salt, com o qual viria lançar mais dois álbuns no começo da década 70, todos com a mesma formação. Já em 1975 Murphy desmancha o antigo grupo e forma o Murphy's Law, com o qual lançou um álbum sem sucesso e desistiu da carreira musical.
O disco Almost Home , de 1970, traz uma interessante mistura de vários estilos, variando entre jazz, rock, folk, blues e alguns momentos de improviso. Belas e bem construídas passagens instrumentais de saxofone, flauta, guitarra, piano e até gaita de boca marcam as canções. Destaque para Trilogy, com 3 partes e também First Born e Waiting Hymn of the Republic.
No geral, uma pérola muito legal para ouvir e conhecer, recomendado para fãs de jazz rock e rock dos anos 70.

U.S. Jazz rock Pearl, formed in the late 60s by singer, songwriter and guitarist J.F. Muurphy. Post here the first album, at that time Muurphy JF & Free Flowing Salt, who would later change to JF Murphy & Salt, with which would release two more albums in the early 70's, all with the same lineup. By 1975 Muurphy split the old group and the form Murphy's Law, with which released an album without success and gave up the music career.
The album Almost Home, of 1970, brings an interesting mix of various styles, ranging from jazz, rock, folk, blues and some moments of improvisation. Fine and well constructed instrumental passages with saxophone, flute, guitar, piano and harmonica mark the songs. Highlight for Trilogy, with 3 parts and also First Born and Waiting Hymn of the Republic.
Overall, a very nice pearl to listen and know, recommended for fans of jazz rock and '70s rock.

BLUES ROCK - LA QUINTA VISIÓN - Monkey's Shout (EP) - 1971

La Quinta Visión foi uma pérola, também mexicana, formada em Guadalajara em 1967, originalmente fazendo covers de grupos como Doors, Beatles e Cream. A banda chegou a gravar dois EPs no ano de 1971, já com composições próprias e se tornou importante nome do rock na região, junto com La Revolución de Emiliano Zapata, La Fachada de Piedra, 39.4 e outros. Após várias mudanças, o grupo acabou em 1975.
Posto aqui o segundo e último EP, com o nome de Monkey's Shout (Lamentos de un Mico), trazendo 3 curtas faixas de um ótimo e agitado blues rock, também influenciado pelo psicodélico inglês/americano. Conta com excelentes e "matadoras" passagens de guitarra e gaita de boca, todas as letras são em inglês.
Pérola arrasadora, ótima pedida para fãs de blues rock.

La Quinta Visión was a Mexican pearl, formed in Guadalajara in 1967, originally doing covers of groups like Doors, Beatles and Cream. The band recorded two EPs in 1971, now with its own compositions and has become an important name rock in the region, along with La Revolucion Emiliano Zapata, 39.4 and others. After several changes, the group disbanded in 1975.

Post here the second and last EP, with the name of Monkey's Shout (Laments un Mico), bringing 3 short tracks of a great blues rock, psychedelic influenced. It has excellent and "killer" passages of guitar and harmonica, all the lyrics are in English.
Really good pearl, great choice for fans of blues rock.

LATIN ROCK - LOS CLICKS - We Gotta Get You a Woman / Foolish People - 1971

Pérola mexicana realmente rara e obscura, a história e os integrantes do Los Clicks são um mistério, o grupo lançou apenas um compacto em 1971 e desapareceu do mapa. Deixaram nesse seu único registro duas boas canções com ritmo latino, influenciado também pelo rock psicodélico. Destaque para a percussão e guitarra (principalmente na faixa Foolish People). As letras são todas em inglês e também traz um cover da banda americana Runt.

Mexican Pearl really rare and obscure, history and members of the Los Clicks are a mystery, the group released only a single in 1971 and disappeared. Left in its only record two good songs with a Latin rhythm, also influenced by psychedelic rock. Emphasis on percussion and guitar (mainly in the track Foolish People). The lyrics are all in English and also features a cover of the American band Runt.

Informação sobre a banda Portuguesa Fluido, do site Os Reis do Yé Yé:
"Com o fim dos Sheiks, o  Paulo de Carvalho integra o Trio Combo e em 1968 forma a Banda 4, com a qual edita 1 EP. Em 1969, funda O Fluido, com Luis Romão e Cristiano Semedo (ex-Banda 4) e Filipe Mendes (ex-Chinchilas). No entanto Paulo de Carvalho começa a se destacar solo e muitas músicas dos Fluido são editadas apenas em nome de Paulo de Carvalho. Em 1970, o grupo já não existe. Em 1971, todas as musicas gravadas com os FLUIDO são lançadas num LP da Polydor com o nome de "Paulo de Carvalho"".
Posto aqui o primeiro e único EP do Fluido, com 4 canções bem curtas (casa dos 2 minutos), com um típico rock psicodélico do final daquela década, com algumas boas passagens de guitarra, teclado ao fundo e também bons vocais, as letras são em inglês e também português.

VARIOUS - Those Shocking Shaking Days: Indonesian Hard, Psychedelic, Progressive Rock And Funk: 1970-78 - 2011

Mais uma recente compilação de obscuras pérolas de regiões "fora do mapa" do rock nos anos 70. Those Shocking Shaking Days foi lançado originalmente em 2011 em CD pela Now-Again Records e contém 20 canções remasterizadas de grupos diferentes e todos esquecidos do rock no país durante a década de 70 (1970-78), a compilação também saiu em LP triplo, junto com um livro trazendo imagens e histórias de cada pérola. A maioria das bandas aqui presentes foram formadas no final da década de 60 e várias chegaram a lançar um LP na época.
As faixas variam muito de estilo, indo do hard rock (Freedom Of Rhapsodia, por exemplo) até o funk/soul, passando também pelo rock psicodélico "fuzzado", acid e progressivo. Percebe-se uma boa mescla de música (principalmente rock) ocidental com os ritmos e folk regional. As letras são em inglês e outras na língua local, algumas bandas também ousaram ao fazer críticas políticas, já que o país passava por uma ditadura. Algumas passagens "matadoras" de guitarra, presença de órgão em alguns momentos marcam bem esse lançamento. Destaque também para as faixas "Do What You Like", do AKA, "Evil War", do Shark Move e "Freedom", do Freedom Of Rhapsodia e a longa e bem trabalhada "Don't Talk About Freedom", do Gang of Harry Roesli.

No geral, uma compilação de muita qualidade, recheado de boas músicas. Altamente recomendado para quem está conhecendo ou quer conhecer rock da Indonésia e também para fãs de prog/psych dos anos 70.

Recent compilation of obscure pearls of  unknown regions of rock in the '70s. Those Shocking Shaking Days was originally released in 2011 on CD by Now-Again Records and contains 20 remastered songs from different groups and all forgotten rock in the country during the 70's (1970-78), it was also released as 3xLP bringing a book with pictures and stories of each band. Most of them were formed in the late 60's and several launched an LP at the time.
The tracks vary greatly in style, going from hard rock (Freedom Of Rhapsodia , for example) to the funk / soul also reaching fuzz psych/acid rock and progressive. We can listen a good mix of Western music (mostly rock) with rhythms and regional folk. The lyrics are in English and other local language, some bands also made political criticisms. Some passages of "killer" guitar , presence of organ in a few moments mark this release as well . Also highlighting the tracks " Do What You Like", AKA; " Evil War " by Shark Move and " Freedom ", Freedom Of Rhapsodia .
Overall, a compilation of high quality , full of good songs. Highly recommended

AKA, importante banda do país na época 

PROG FOLK - QUICKSAND - Home Is Where I Belong - 1973

Grupo vindo do País de Gales, não sabe muito sobre essa pérola. O Quicksand esteve em atividade no começo dos anos 70 e lançou apenas um álbum em 1973 (alguns sites dizem 1974) e provavelmente acabaram algum tempo depois, após o fim o guitarrista Jimmy Davies formou a banda Alkatraz. O álbum foi relançado algumas vezes em CD nesse século.
Seu disco Home Is Where I Belong é constituído de 8 faixas com bela harmonia, bem trabalhados. Trazem um típico rock progressivo inglês da época, com muita influencia de folk e também rock psicodélico ao estilo costa oeste. Algumas faixas são mais suaves e baladas, como "Empty Street, Empty Heart". Guitarra (acústica e elétrica) tem ótimos momentos e trabalho sólido no álbum, na maioria do tempo é também acompanhada pelo teclado e órgão, destacado nas cósmicas "Flying" e "Alpha Omega". O vocal é também muito bom, em alguns refrões ouve-se um "coro" de todos os músicos.
Pérola muito legal para conhecer, recomendada para quem curte rock progressivo e folk britânico.

Group from Wales, do not know much about this gem. Quicksand was active in the early '70s and released only one album in 1973 (some sites say 1974) and probably ended some time later, after the end guitarist Jimmy Davies formed the band Alkatraz. The album was reissued on CD a few times in this century .
The album Home Is Where I Belong consists of 8 well-crafted tracks with beautiful harmony. Brings a typical English progressive rock of the time, with lot of influence of folk and psychedelic rock west coast style. Some tracks are softer and ballads such as "Empty Street, Empty Heart". Guitar (acoustic and electric) has great moments and solid work on the album, most of the time is also accompanied by organ and keyboard, highlighted in cosmic "Flying" and " Alpha Omega" . The vocals are also very good in some choruses you hear a "choir" of all musicians .
Pearl really cool to know, recommended for those who enjoy British progressive rock and folk .

KRAUTROCK/JAZZ ROCK - OPOSSUM - Bear's Banquet - 2003 (1974)

Opossum foi uma pérola alemã formada em Warburg, no ano de 1971 originalmente como um trio. A banda adicionou mais três membros e o então sexteto passou a fazer shows pela região, usando muito do improviso, e chegando a participar de festivais com importantes nomes do Krautrock como Xhol, Tangerine Dream e Kraan. Em 1974 o grupo gravou algumas músicas, mas estas não chegaram a ser lançadas pois o Opossum se desfez um ano após, em 1975. Depois do fim, vários integrantes formaram a banda de Jazz Rock Morpheus, que chegou a lançar um disco em 76. Enquanto isso o Opossum passou quase trinta anos totalmente oculto e esquecido, até que em 2003 o CD Bear's Banquet foi lançado com essas poucas faixas gravadas em 74, pela Garden of Delights.
O álbum Bear's Banquet traz um ótimo e típico Krautrock, todo instrumental e cheio de improvisações, contando ainda com bons momentos de jazz rock e até um pouco de free jazz, ora calmos, tranquilos e outros de "bagunça" musical. Ótimas composições e músicos bem "entrosados" marcam o som da banda; destaque para flauta e o saxofone aparecem muito bem em todas as canções, o trio guitarra/teclado/bateria também não decepciona.
No geral, um álbum sólido, com 5 faixas muito agradáveis; belo registro de Krautrock e Jazz Rock, pérola altamente recomendada para fãs do estilo.

Opossum was a German pearl formed in Warburg , in 1971 originally as a trio . The band added a further three members and then the sextet went on to do shows around the area, using a lot of improvisation, and even participated of festivals with important names of Krautrock moviment like XhoI, Tangerine Dream and Kraan. In 1974 the group recorded a few songs, but these did not come to be launched because Opossum disbanded one year after, in 1975 . After the end , several members formed the  Jazz Rock band Morpheus. Meanwhile the Opossum spent nearly thirty years totally hidden and forgotten, until in 2003 the CD Bear's Banquet was released with these few tracks recorded in 74, by Garden of Delights 
The Bear's Banquet album brings a great and typical Krautrock, all instrumental and full of improvisations, still relying on good Jazz Rock moments and even a bit of free jazz; sometimes calm, quiet and other musical mess. Great compositions and high quality musicians mark the band's sound, especially flute and saxophone appear nicely in all the songs, the guitar / keyboard / drums trio did not disappoint .
Overall, a solid album with 5 very nice tracks, beautiful pearl and highly recommended for fans of Krautrock and Jazz Rock.
