Pérola formada em 1972 na capital húngara Budapeste. O Taurus (também conhecida como Taurus Ex-T: 25-75-82) é considerado um dos primeiros supergrupos do país, contando com importantes nomes do rock local, ex-membros de Neonton, Metro, Pannónia e Atlantis. Apesar da curta duração, o projeto resultou em dois compactos em 72 e 73, mesmo ano do encerramento.
Posto aqui o debut com as músicas "Zöld csillag" e "Szólíts meg vándor", ambas curtas e trazendo um fulminante "hardão" setentista, com pegadas de psicodélico e blues. Passagens arrasadoras de guitarra e órgão são destaque, contando ainda com vocal potente e letras na língua local. Com certeza tinham grande potencial, mas infelizmente não lançaram um álbum inteiro. Recomendado!

HARD ROCK - SKORPIÓ - Kelj fel! - 1977

Mais uma pérola vinda da Hungria, o grupo Skorpió surgiu na capital Budapeste em 1973 por Károly Frenreisz, ex-membro do Locomotiv GT. Tiveram papel importante na cena roqueira local na metade dos anos 70, com os dois primeiros álbuns principalmente. Existiram até meados dos anos 80, totalizando 8 LPs lançados e várias outras compilações e ao vivos em recentes reuniões.
Posto aqui o terceiro trabalho da banda, Kelj fel! ("Acorde!") de 1977. É dividido em 9 curtas faixas baseadas em hard rock claramente influenciado por grandes nomes da época, principalmente Deep Purple e Uriah Heep, mas contando com influências de blues, funk e várias baladas. Nada de novo, mas competente trabalho instrumental com solos poderosos de órgão, guitarra e raras passagens de sax e sintetizadores, originando momentos progressivos. As letras são todas em húngaro, com destaque para "Döntsd el végre már", "Piactér", "Szép vasárnap hajnalán" e "Késő".
Ótima pérola para fãs de hard rock setentista com pitadas de prog.

The group Skorpió was formed in Hungary, in the capital Budapest in 1973 by Károly Frenreisz, former member of Locomotiv GT. Played an important role in the local rock scene in the mid-70s, with the first two albums mostly. Existed until the mid-80s, totaling 8 released LPs and several compilations and live at recent meetings.
Post here the third work of the band, Kelj gall!, of 1977. It is divided into nine short hard rock-based tracks clearly influenced by big names of the time, but relying on blues influences, funk and several ballads. Nothing new, but competent instrumental work with powerful solos of organ, guitar (remembering Deep Purple and Uriah Heep) and rare passages of sax and synth, giving progressive moments. The lyrics are all in Hungarian, especially "Döntsd el Vegre már", "Piactér", "Szép vasárnap hajnalán" and "Keso". Recommended for fans of 70s hard rock.

PROG/ PSYCH ROCK - KEX - Elszállt Egy Hajó A Szélben (Single) - 1970

Mais um raro compacto do leste europeu, o grupo Kex foi formado em 1968 na capital húngara Budapeste e foi um dos mais importantes nomes do rock local na época, tendo grande reconhecimento ainda hoje no país. Apesar disto, na época lançaram apenas esse single até se desfazerem em 1971, com várias mudanças na formação. Duas compilações saíram nos últimos anos com antigas gravações da banda.
Posto aqui o debut dos caras, de 1970, trazendo as canções "Elszállt Egy Hajó A Szélben" e "Család", ambas na casa dos 3 minutos e com letras na língua local. O destaque fica com a primeira faixa, misturando influências psicodélicas e progressivas, com pegada pesada de guitarra, piano, órgão e flauta. O lado B traz uma bonita e calma balada, com raros momentos de violino e piano. Pérola recomendada para fãs de hard prog e psych.

The group Kex was formed in 1968 in the Hungarian capital Budapest and was one of the most important local rock names at the time, having great recognition in the country. PROG ROCK - GRUPA ROK - Potraži drugi svijet (Single) - 1974

Grupa Rok foi formada no começo dos anos 70 em Sarajevo, antiga Iugoslávia e atual capital da Bósnia e Herzegovina. Lançaram dois compactos em 1974, mas logo se desfizeram sem conseguir sucesso. Após o final da banda alguns membros integraram outros nomes conhecidos locais como Bijelo Dugme e Teška industrija.

Posto aqui o debut do grupo, com as curtas músicas "Dva jarca" e "Položi ruke u travu", que dá nome ao single. Influências de hard e rock progressivo aparecem muito bem na primeira e melhor faixa, com boas passagens de teclado, guitarra e flauta, lembrando algo de Jethro Tull. Já o lado B, apesar da flauta, traz som mais pop/ folk, ambas com letras na língua local. Pérola recomendada para fãs de prog rock.

PSYCHEDELIC ROCK - ATLANTIS - Křížová Cesta / Strange Brew (Podivná Vzpoura) - 1969

Pérola vinda da antiga Checoslováquia e atual República Tcheca, formado em 1966 por Stan Regal, Jan Hubáček e Zdeněk Kluka. No ano seguinte chegaram Hana Ulrychová e Petr Ulrych, este último tornou-se logo principal compositor do grupo, assim conseguiram sucesso na segunda metade dos anos 60, tocando em vários países do leste europeu. Apesar disto, o Atlantis nunca lançou um LP, apenas vários compactos e EPs até seu fim em 1973, vários membros ainda participariam de outros projetos no país.
Posto aqui o single com as músicas "Křížová Cesta" e o cover de "Strange Brew" (lançada com nome em tcheco Podivná Vzpoura), ambas curtas e altamente influenciadas pela psicodelia norte-americana e britânica da época, talvez um dos primeiros registros de rock psicodélico da "Cortina de ferro". Nada de especial na parte instrumental, bons riffs e solos de órgão e guitarra, com vocal feminino de Ulrychová em ambas as músicas e letra em língua local na primeira. Pérola recomendada para fãs de rock psicodélico/ ácido dos anos 60.

Pearl coming from former Czechoslovakia and current Czech Republic, formed in 1966 by Stan Regal, Jan Hubáček and Zdeněk Kluka. Atlantis achieved success in the second half of the 60s, playing in several Eastern European countries. JAZZ FUNK - GRAMINE - Same - 1974

Pérola vinda da Polônia, o grupo Gramine foi formado na capital Varsóvia em 1968 por Wladyslaw Dobrowolski e Tomasz Bielski. A banda teve vários nomes e membros no começo, apenas em 1972 definiram o nome Gramine, o qual levaram até o fim das atividades anos mais tarde, em 79. Apesar de respeito na cena jazzística local, lançaram apenas um raro álbum em 1974, com participação da cantora Ewa Bem.
O disco homônimo é composto de 10 faixas curtas, trazendo típico e marcante jazz polonês, lembrando bandas como Bemibem e outros. Influências pesadas de funk com sessões de metais, saxofone e percussão marcam o álbum, assim como coros femininos na língua local e alguns momentos simples de vocal jazz acompanhados de piano. Doses leves de blues aparecem como em "Osiem Koni Albo Czterdziestu Ludzi" e "Żywioł Ognia". No geral, um som divertido e bastante eclético, misturando de forma cativante.
Pérola recomendada para fãs de jazz, com pitadas de funk e blues.

Pearl coming from Poland, the group Gramine was formed in Warsaw in 1968 by Wladyslaw Dobrowolski and Tomasz Bielski. The band had several names and members in the beginning, only in 1972 defined the Gramine name, which led to the end of the activities years later in 79. Although respect in the local jazz scene, launched only a rare album in 1974 with participation of the singer Ewa Well.
The self-titled disc consists of 10 short tracks, bringing typical and outstanding Polish jazz, recalling bands like Bemibem and others. Funk influences with heavy metals sessions, saxophone and percussion mark the album as well as female choruses in the local language and some simple moments of vocal jazz accompanied by piano. Blues mild doses appear as "Osiem Koni Albo Czterdziestu Ludzi" and "Żywioł Ognia". Overall, a fun and eclectic sound, recommended for jazz fans, with funk and blues touches.

HARD PROG - SFINX - Lume albă - 1975

Pérola vinda da Romênia, o Sfinx foi uma das maiores bandas do país nos anos 70, junto com o Phoenix e pioneiras em rock progressivo. O grupo começou com jovens da capital Bucareste em 1963, tocando covers de conhecidos artistas britânicos, após várias mudanças na formação lançaram o primeiro LP em 1975. Apesar de sucesso do debut, o Sfinx se consagrou no rock do leste europeu e ainda é lembrado por seu segundo álbum: Zalmoxe, de 1978. Na década seguinte a banda voltou seu som para pop/ disco e acabou se desfazendo sem conseguir sucesso.
Posto aqui Lume albă (Planeta branco), disco de estreia de 75. É composto por 9 faixas, maioria curta, mas de ótima qualidade, misturando rock progressivo com hard rock e ainda elementos de folk, space e fusion. Instrumental criativo e competente, com ótimos solos de sintetizador e guitarra se revezando, lembram nomes como King Crimson ou Camel, contando ainda com belas passagens de violão e flauta. As letras são todas em romeno, dando um toque único para a obra. Destaque para as músicas "Sinteze", "Lume albă", "Muntele" e "Om bun", apesar de poucos momentos fracos.
Pérola altamente recomendada para fãs de hard rock e progressivo.

You shouldn't expect by a band from Romania, a country with limited tradition in Progressive Rock, to break new grounds, but Sfinx appeared to be more than just a talented band on ''Lume alba'', exploring music fields that were almost forbidden for other groups.They played a mix of straight Hard Rock with some supporting poppy tunes, but I also encounter lots of folky influences and spacey, Fusion touches in their sound.The standard-structured tracks are rather of limited interest for fans with no access to the Romanian language, containing lots of punchy guitars, catchy choruses and dynamic grooves, which are sometimes surrounded by discreet keyboard sounds.But there are also tracks in here that are surprisingly good and beyond their time regarding the Romanian Rock scene.For example ''Sinteza'' is powered by great electric solos and a marching rhythm section, accompanying some impressive Moog synth solos with a slight spacey underline or the title-track, which sounds extremely trippy with its wordless vocals, background bass lines and soaring synth lines.''Muntele'' is very interesting as well, some of the guitar parts recall King Crimson at their mid-period, the Hard Rock leads are still in evidence, but the semi-symphonic synths, the powerful breaks and the changing climates add a personal aura in this piece.''Calatorul si copacul'', the opening track is a nice attempt in Folk/Pop with great violin work by Aldea, while the swansong of the album, ''Om bun'', is a beautiful piece of archaic Prog Folk with a slight Medieval atmosphere, featuring poetic voices, traditional flute lines and light bass work.
That's what should be called Art Rock.Not groundbreaking by any means, however ''Lume alba'' remains a hidden gem of versatile Eastern-European Rock music with multilpe influences, likely to satisfy all lovers of flexible listenings.Recommended.

Pérola formada em 1974 na cidade de Dnipropetrovsk, atual Ucrânia e na época URSS. O grupo Vodogray (em ucraniano Водограй) lançou um LP em 1978 (relançado em CD recentemente) e outros dois EPs até se desfazer no começo da década seguinte. Informações sobre a banda são reduzidas e a grande maioria se encontra na língua local, qualquer detalhe será bem-vindo.
Posto aqui o último EP do grupo, Заколдованный Круг (Círculo enfeitiçado, em português) contando com 4 curtas faixas. Apesar de classificadas como pop, o estilo predominante aqui é funk rock, com poderoso groove e solos de saxofone, metais e teclados, este último dando momentos viajantes e leves pitadas de jazz e prog. A maioria do tempo é instrumental, variando melodias mais complexas e outras comercias, com alguns coros femininos. Pérola recomendada para fãs de funk e também prog rock.

Pearl coming of Ukraine, formed in 1974 in the city of Dnipropetrovsk and USSR at the time. The group Vodogray (Водограй) released an LP in 1978 (recently reissued on CD) and two EPs, but disbanded at the beginning of the next decade. Information about the band are reduced and the vast majority is in the local language.
Post here the last EP of the group, Заколдованный Круг (Infatuated Circle) relying on four short tracks. Although classified as pop, the predominant style here is funk rock with powerful groove and saxophone, brass and keyboards solo, with touches of jazz and prog. Most of the time it's instrumental, ranging more complex melodies and other commercial, with some female choirs. Pearl recommended for fans of funk and prog rock also.

HARD/ GARAGE ROCK - SANKT PETERBURG (Санкт-Петербург) - Концерт На ХимФаке ЛГУ - 2009 (1972)

Pérola vinda da Rússia, formada em São Petersburgo em 1969, na época Leningrado na antiga União Soviética. O grupo Sankt Peterburg (em russo Санкт-Петербург) foi um dos pioneiros no rock local, contando com jovens da Faculdade local e atuando bom tempo sem autorização do governo (permissão para lançar discos pela gravadora estatal Melodiya). Várias pausas e mudanças de formação marcam a história da banda, que ainda está na ativa sendo o único membro original o líder e guitarrista Vladimir Rekshan.
Posto aqui uma das gravações ao vivo do grupo em 1972 lançada apenas como bootleg em 2009 intitulado Концерт На ХимФаке ЛГУ (em português, Concerto na Faculdade de Leningrado). O ao vivo é composto de 15 curtas faixas, com exceção da última e traz um rock'n'roll com pegadas hard e garagem, influenciado por bandas do ocidente, apesar das letras em russos. No instrumental domínio do competente trio baixo-bateria-guitarra, contando com solos nervosos dos dois últimos e raras passagens de teclado e violino. A qualidade do som é o ponto fraco, ruim e com ruídos.
Pérola recomendada para fãs de hard ou garage rock.

Pearl coming from Russia, formed in St. Petersburg in 1969, in former Leningrad and Soviet Union. The group Sankt Peterburg (Санкт-Петербург in Russian) was a pioneer in the local rock, with youngsters from a local University and without government permission to release records by state label Melodiya. Several breaks and lineup changes mark the band's history, which is still active and has the only original member leader and guitarist Vladimir Rekshan.
Post here one of the live recordings of the group in 1972 released as a bootleg only in 2009 titled Концерт На ХимФаке ЛГУ (Concert at the Leningrad University). This live is composed of 15 short tracks, except the last, and brings a hard and garage rock'n'roll, influenced by bands from the West, even though the lyrics in Russian. In the instrumental domain of competent trio bass-drums-guitar, with nervous solos of the last one and rare passages of keyboard and violin. The sound quality is poor, with noises. Recommended for fans of hard rock or garage.

JAZZ FUSION - SEVIL (ВИА Севиль) - Same - 1978 (1971)

Pérola vinda do Azerbaijão, liderada pelo pianista e compositor local Vagif Mustafa Zadeh, um dos maiores nomes do jazz no país. Um dos seus grupo foi o Sevil (em russo Севиль ou ВИА Севиль), formada no começo dos anos 70 na capital Вaku e qual ele liderou até 1979, quando sua carreira foi prematuramente interrompida por um ataque cardíaco e morte. Até hoje é lembrado como um dos mais brilhantes artistas da antiga URSS.
Posto aqui o único álbum da banda Sevil, homônimo lançado pelo Melodiya em 1978, mas gravado em 1971. É composto por 8 faixas, trazendo uma excelente e até pioneira fusão de jazz com Mugham, estilo tradicional do país e ainda alguns toques de funk. Destaque para faixas instrumentais, contando com profundo e excepcional trabalho no piano de Zadeh, acompanhado por bateria, baixo e raros momentos de órgão, como é o caso de "No Escaping Fate", "In the Palace of the Shirvan Shahs" e "Mugam". Вonitos coros femininos aprecem em outras músicas, mas com letra na língua local.
Excelente obra para fãs de jazz fusion e música da antiga URSS.

Pearl coming from Azerbaijan, led by pianist and composer Vagif Mustafa Zadeh, one of the biggest names in local music. One of their group was Sevil (Севиль or ВИА Севиль), formed in the early 70s in the capital and Вaku which he led until 1979, when his career was prematurely cut short by a heart attack and death. Even today is remembered as one of the most brilliant artists of the former USSR.
Post here the only Sevil album, self-titled released by Melodiya in 1978, but recorded in 1971. It consists of 8 tracks, bringing up an excellent and pioneering fusion of jazz with Mugham, traditional country style and even some touches of funk. Emphasis on instrumental tracks, with deep and exceptional work of Zadeh on piano, accompanied by drums, bass and rare moments of organ, as in the case of "No Escaping Fate", "In the Palace of the Shirvan Shahs" and "Mugam". Вeatiful female choruses are present in other songs, but with local language lyrics.
Excellent piece for fans of jazz fusion and music of the former USSR.
