HARD ROCK - KLEPTO - Rock'n Roll / Don't Tell Lies - 1975

Pérola vinda da Bélgica, da capital Bruxelas. Esse é único compacto do grupo Kleptomania com o nome Klepto, já na fase final da banda (que na época ainda não tinha lançado seu único LP), em 1975. No ano seguinte alguns membros continuaram e formaram o Grant, que também não conseguiu sucesso. As duas músicas aqui presentes ainda saíram como bônus na nova versão do disco Elephant Lost, em 2006.

Ambas as faixas são curtas e cantadas em inglês. "Rock'n Roll" traz um som animado com influências de boogie e hard típico dos anos 70, já "Don't Tell Lies" é uma balada mais calma, contando com ótimo trabalho de guitarra e passagens de violão e piano.

Pearl coming from Brussels, Belgium. This is the only single of the group Kleptomania with Klepto name, in the final phase of the band, in 1975. The following year some members continued and formed Grant, that also failed to success . The two songs present here still came out as a bonus in the new version of Elephant Lost in 2006. Both tracks are short and sung in English. "Rock'n Roll" brings a dancing sound with influences of boogie and hard typical '70s, and "Do not Tell Lies" is a quieter ballad, with great guitar work and acoustic guitar and piano passages.

FOLK ROCK - THE IRISH BAHÁ'ÍS - Peace Will Shine - 1978

Pérola obscura vinda da Irlanda, formada em meados dos anos 70. O grupo The Irish Bahá'ís surgiu em uma comunidade Bahá'í na cidade de Galway, seus membros são desconhecidos e realizaram apenas esse raro álbum em 1978 pela pequena Hyacinth Records.
Peace Will Shine é composto por 12 curtas faixas que tem como tema os princípios da fé Bahá'í, como Deus, paz, amor e espiritualidade. Aos vocais (todos masculinos) são acompanhados um folk bastante tranquilo, acústico e bonito, com leves influências de country e rock psicodélico (nas músicas "Right On Brother" e "Tara". A parte instrumental conta com violões, bandolim, flauta, bateria e baixo.

Sometime considered as a Christian band by collectors, The Irish Bahá'ís is actually a product of the Baha'i Faith, a monotheistic religion founded by Bahá'u'lláh in nineteenth-century. Recorded in a three-day session at Middle 8 Studio, when it was possible to assemble the musicians in one place (most of them were pioneers), Peace Will Shine is of a specific era in the growth of the faith in Ireland.
Some songs have a strong Neil Young influence, other are more psych/folk oriented and there is a slight traditional touch here and there. The line-up features electric guitar, classical guitar, guitars 6+12 string, mandolins, flute, drums and bass. Without any doubt, one of the rarest LPs from Ireland and also one of the best.

FUNK/ SOFT ROCK - SUNSHINE - Same - 1972

Pérola formada na Inglaterra, o grupo Sunshine teve curto período de atividade. O sexteto, composto por quatro homens e duas mulheres, chegou a lançar um LP e abrir um show para Geno Washington, ambos em 1972, mas não conseguiu sucesso e logo no ano seguinte se desfez. Vários membros integraram outras importantes bandas inglesas na época, como Renaissance, T. Rex, The New Seekers, The Pretty Things e outras.
O álbum de mesmo nome foi lançado uma única vez em 72, pela Warner. É composto por 9 faixas influenciadas por funk, rock e R&B, com várias baladas e momentos comerciais. Os vocais aparecem bem, revezando masculinos e femininos e o instrumental é tranquilo, na maioria do tempo acústico com violão, piano e percussão. Destaque para "Advert", "When Will I See The Light" e "Relics".
Nada de especial, mas ainda interessante para fãs de funk/ pop rock e R&B.

Pearl formed in England, Sunshine was a short lived group. The sextet, composed of four men and two women, release an LP in 1972, but could not succeed, then in the following year fell apart. Several members have integrated other important English bands at the time, as Renaissance, T. Rex, The New Seekers, The Pretty Things and others.
The self-titled album was released only once in 72, by Warner. It consists of 9 tracks influenced by funk, rock and R&B, with several ballads and commercial moments. The vocals appear well, male and female taking turns and the instrumental is quiet most of the time with acoustic guitar, piano and percussion. Key tracks: "Advert", "When Will I See The Light" and "Relics". Nothing special, but still interesting for fans of funk / pop rock and R & B.

HARD/ PROG/ KRAUTROCK - VARIOUS - Heavy Christmas - 1971

Postagem especial de Natal, a compilação Heavy Christmas foi lançada em 1971 pela Pilz e relançada em CD e vinil em 1997. É composto por 11 faixas, tocadas por 7 pérolas alemãs da época, a maioria lançou apenas um álbum, apenas Virus e Flute & Voice chegaram à dois LPs. Esse também é o único registro da banda Libido.
As músicas trazem uma variedade grande de estilos, passando pelo krautrock, progressivo, hard, folk e psicodelia, mas com temas natalinos e letras em inglês. Saxofone, órgão, guitarra wah-wah, flautas se revezam no instrumental, dando momentos viajantes/ experimentais e outros de simples e direto rock setentista, com destaque para as músicas de Virus e Libido.
Apesar de um pouco inconsistente, excelentes momentos do rock alemão são ouvidos aqui, pérola natalina recomendada!

One of the odder relics of the Krautrock heyday of the early '70s, Heavy Christmas found itself reissued in 1997 as part of the overall revival of the said sound. Originally released in 1971, it featured both new and traditional Christmas songs interpreted by seven different acts, most of whom contribute two tracks each. None of the featured acts are among the upper tier of Krautrock acts -- and it would have been quite something to hear the likes of Can, Kraftwerk, and Guru Guru do Christmas songs! -- but the end results have their high points. If any bands would be points of inspiration, Amon Duul II and Faust would probably be them; most of the acts here have the nutty playfulness of the first, touched here and there by the sheer cut-up chaos of the second. Compared to both, though, groups like Libido and Virus are much more straightforward. Libido itself gets in two of the representative songs: "Evolution," starting with a weird, ragged chorus and getting in some heavy drum slams and crazed guitar wah-wah action; and the rockin' good times of "Come on Everybody," apparently the album's single. Virus has its own fine winner, "X-Mas Submarine," with a stuttering keyboard line and fantastic guitar soloing its high points. Joy Unlimited's contribution is a doozy, a lengthy number called "All Heaven and Earth Are Silent" which sounds like a mix of stoner folk, pomp-rock instrumentals, and a strung-out Up With People. In perhaps the most entertaining trip-out, Dies Irae rips through an instrumental version of "Silent Night" with a snarling electric guitar taking the totally unlikely lead, alternating between full propulsion and calmer moments. Solo act Marcel delivers "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" with a nicely airy vocal, while his backing musicians crank the amps and add violin to boot.

Pérola vinda da Itália, formado pelos ex-membros da banda Idea Nuova, Ricky Belloni e Paolo Siani. O grupo Track teve curta duração e foi um projeto dos dois conhecidos músicos, contando ainda com o cantor Cacao e o baixista Guido Guglielminetti, resultando em um único e raro disco em 1974. Logo depois o quarteto se desfez e Belloni seguiu carreira solo e como guitarrista do New Trolls.
O álbum Track Rock traz 9 curtas faixas, longes do típico rock progressivo italiano, mas com rock'n'roll clássico e pegadas de hard, blues e boogie, contando com dois covers de Doobie Brothers (Long Train Running) e Status Quo (Caroline) e claras influências de bandas americanas e inglesas da época. A guitarra lidera o som pesado, contando ainda com passagens de gaita de boca, percussão e teclados, esta dá os raros momentos de prog nas únicas músicas instrumentais "Track" e "Walking With The Camel". As letras são todas em inglês.
Pérola recomendada para fãs do "hardão setentista" com doses de blues e boogie.

Group coming from Italy, formed by former members of the band Idea Nuova, Ricky Belloni and Paolo Siani. The group Track was a short-lived project of the two known musicians, still relying on the singer Cacao and bassist Guido Guglielminetti, resulting in only one rare album in 1974. Soon after the quartet disbanded and Belloni joined New Trolls.
The album "Track Rock" features nine short tracks, far from the typical Italian progressive rock, but with classic rock'n'roll and hard, blues and boogie, with two covers of Doobie Brothers (Long Train Running) and Status Quo (Caroline ) and clear influences of American and British bands of the time. The guitar leads the heavy sound, still relying on harmonica passages, percussion and keyboards, this gives the rare moments of prog in only instrumental music "Track" and "Walking With The Camel." The lyrics are all in English. Pearl recommended for fans of 70s hard with blues and boogie touches.

PROG ROCK - BJÖRGVIN GÍSLASON - Öræfarokk - 1977

Björgvin Gíslason é um guitarrista islandês, importante nome do rock local nos anos 70, quando integrou várias bandas como Náttúra, Pelican, Paradís e outras. Nascido em 1951, Gíslason começou sua carreira na música no fim dos anos 60 em pequenos grupos de beat/ pop do país. Como músico solo lançou quatro discos, sendo o mais recente de 2011, ainda estando em atividade.
Posto aqui seu primeiro álbum solo, lançado em 1977. É composto por 11 faixas curtas que começam na linha do rock progressivo/ fusion, misturando influências de bandas nórdicas e britânicas, mas nas músicas seguintes ouvimos mais blues e rock clássico. As letras são todas em inglês, com algumas músicas instrumentais, apesar de simples são de qualidade, com teclados, piano, flauta e guitarra de Björgvin. Destaque para "Day", "Doll In A Dream", "Öræfarokk", apesar de poucos momentos fracos.
Pérola recomendada para fãs de rock progressivo e clássico.

Björgvin Gíslason is an Icelandic guitarist, important local rock name in the 70s, when he played at several bands as Nattura, Pelican, Paradís and others. Born in 1951, Gíslason began his career in music in the late 60 in small beat groups of country. As a solo musician released four albums, the most recent being 2011 and is still in activity.
Post here his first solo album, released in 1977. It consists of 11 short tracks that start in the line of progressive rock / fusion, mixing influences from Nordic and British bands, but in the following songs we hear more blues and classic rock. The lyrics are all in English, with some instrumental, though simple are very good with keyboards, piano, flute and guitar Björgvin. Emphasis on "Day", "Doll In A Dream", "Öræfarokk", although few weak moments. Pearl recommended for progressive and classic rock fans.

Pérola obscura vinda da Suécia, formada em Uppsala na Suécia no meio dos anos 70. O grupo Gandalf (não confundam com o americano dos anos 60) lançou um único disco de forma independente em 1977 e de apenas 380 cópias, ainda hoje não relançado e com alto valor entre colecionadores. O músico e vocalista Johan von Feilitzen fundou a a Hansa Band alguns anos mais tarde.
O homônimo é composto por 9 faixas curtas que trazem uma típica mistura do rock psicodélico e progressivo dos anos 70, revezando momentos pesados e outros melódicos. O instrumental é competente e proporciona os melhores momentos do som, liderado pelo excelente trabalho nas guitarras e ainda solos de flauta e piano principalmente no "lado A" com "Morgondimman" e "Betygsterror". As letras são todas em sueco, com exceção da blueseira "The Spoon", mas a qualidade do som não é das melhores.
Pérola recomendada para fãs de prog rock e psicodélico dos anos 70.

JAZZ FUSION - THE GROUP - Same - 1978

Pérola vinda da Finlândia, o The Group foi formado em 1977 pelo renomado baixista Pekka Pohjola e é considerado um supergrupo local, contando com ex-membros das bandas Tasavallan Presidentti, Elonkorjuu e Made in Sweden em suas últimas formações. Lançaram apenas um disco, resultando em pequena turnê na Escandinávia, mas logo mudaram o nome para Pekka Pohjola Group.
O álbum homônimo de 1978 é dividido em apenas 5 faixas, todas instrumentais, que combinam jazz fusion com alguns momentos viajantes de progressivo. Alguns bons e dinâmicos arranjos aparecem com destaque para teclados, guitarra e baixo pulsante de Pohjola, lembrando um pouco seu trabalho solo e Return to Forever. Destaque para "Gado-Gado" e "Annapurna".
Apesar de seus momentos repetitivos e um pouco tediosos, esse trabalho merece audição dos apreciadores de jazz fusion.

The Group was an obscure finish progressive/jazz rock band from late '70s, but with established musicians in this field. The band released only one album in 1978 self titled and then gone into oblivion under this name, because the musicians involved here minus Olli Ahvenlahti will go to Pekka Pohjola Group. As I said some very solid and skilful musicians here like ex Wigwam, Made In Sweden - Pekka Pohjola, drumer Vesa Aaltonen ex-Tasavallan Presidentti, guitarist Seppo Tyni from Elonkorjuu and keybordist Olli Ahvenlahti from Uni Sono and solo as well, so in the end a super group. The music featured here, I can't say is groundbreaking but is pleasent, well made. The jazz elements are well combned with the progressive ones, it sounds like a cross between Return To Forever and solo work of Pohjola, even his tradmark elements are not so present here, this is a group efford indeed as the name of the band suggested. The shorter pieces are the most intresting here with maybe Annapurna the longest one, because Ripple marks has some good but in same time some boring moments aswell, the piece to much time going nowhere in musical terms. All in all a decent album, nothing over the top, but fans of the genre might take some spins.

Mais uma pérola extremamente rara vinda da Noruega. O Rockfilter foi ativo nos anos 70, originário da pequena cidade de Mosjøen e teve como líder o guitarrista Georg Davidsen, que integrou a banda Few anos antes. Lançaram apenas um álbum em 1976 e logo o quarteto se desfez. Muito pouco se sabe sobre o grupo.
O disco Good for You é composto de 10 curtas faixas, contando com bonitas baladas ("How Long Is The Night" e "My Sweet Love") e outras passagens mais dinâmicas e envolventes influenciadas pelo country e blues rock americano com ótimos solos e riffs de guitarra, mas instrumental competente no geral, com baixo, bateria e raros momentos progressivos com sintetizador. As letras são todas em inglês, com vários momentos de coro.
Interessante pérola para fãs de country e blues rock setentista, recomendado!

Another extremely rare pearl coming from Norway. The group Rockfilter was active in the 70s, came from the town of Mosjøen and had as leader guitarist Georg Davidsen, who joined the band Few years before. They released only one album in 1976 and then disbanded. Very little is known about the quartet.
The album "Good for You" is composed of 10 short tracks, with beautiful ballads ("How Long Is The Night" and "My Sweet Love") and other more dynamic and engaging passages influenced by American  country and blues rock with great guitar solos and riffs, instrumental is decent overall, with bass, drums and rare progressive moments with synthesizer. The lyrics are all in English, with several moments of chorus. Interesting for country and blues rock fans, recommended!

FOLK/ SOFT ROCK - SOLARIS - Misty Morning - 1977

Pérola vinda da cidade de Harstad, norte da Noruega. O grupo Solaris (não confundam com o homônimo vindo da Hungria) surgiu por mãos do músico Ole G.Nilssen, que lançou seu disco solo em 1976, contando com participação de vários membros do que viria a ser a banda. No mesmo ano o quinteto foi formado e lançou seus primeiros compactos. O único e raro álbum da banda saiu em 1977 pelo pequeno selo Apollo, mas sem conseguir sucesso se desfizeram logo depois.
Posto aqui o disco Misty Morning, originalmente composto por 10 faixas, mas aqui contando com 2 músicas bônus retiradas de singles, todas curtas. Trazem um rock'n'roll tranquilo e simples, com várias baladas e influências de costa oeste e country/ folk rock. Passagens instrumentais merecem destaque, com bons solos da guitarra de Nilssen, junto de piano e teclados, em faixas como "Battelfielf Green", "Micro" e "Solaris". As letras são todas em inglês, com exceção das bônus, cantadas em norueguês.
Nada de essencial, mas uma pérola recomendada para fãs de rock com pegadas country e folk.

Nothing essential, but recommended for rock fans with country and folk touches.
