Pérola vinda da Finlândia, o cantor Kristian (nome artístico de Bengt Vilhelm Huhta) nasceu em Kokkola em 1949. Começou sua carreira na música no final dos anos 60, chegando a dividir palco com o Wigwam em 1968 e gravando dois LPs, relançados recentemente em CD e vários compactos até 1977, quando se tornou professor.
Posto aqui seu debut homônimo de 1972, contando com participação de vários músicos locais. Traz 10 faixas curtas, compostas por Kristian, que misturam folk/soft rock com leves doses de progressivo e psicodélico, na maioria do tempo calmo e suave, ênfase para algumas boas passagens de órgão, guitarra e flauta, quebrando a monotonia em certos momentos. As letras são todas em inglês, com vocais masculinos e femininos.
Boa pedida para fãs de prog folk e soft rock dos anos 70.

Pearl coming from Finland, the singer Kristian (born Bengt Vilhelm Huhta) was born in Kokkola in 1949. He began his career in music in the late 60s, sharing the stage with Wigwam in 1968 and recording two LPs, recently reissued on CD and several singles until 1977, when he became a professor.

HARD ROCK - NATURE - Earthmover - 1974

Pérola vinda de Estocolmo, capital da Suécia. A banda Nature foi formada em 1970 por ex-membros da Blues Quality, lançando 2 discos no começo dos anos 70. Após algumas mudanças na formação, passaram a acompanhar o cantor local Ulf Lundell, fazendo parcerias ainda com nomes como Pugh Rogefeldt e Dave Greenslade, até se desfazer em 1977.

Posto aqui o último álbum do grupo, Earthmover, de 1974. É  composto por 10 faixas curtas que combinam hard rock com doses de blues, psicodelia e progressivo, contando com os covers "Summer in the City", "One Room Country Shack" e "This Wheel's on Fire". O som é direto, com poderosas passagens de guitarra, harmônica e bateria, outros instrumentos aparecem bem, mas esporadicamente, como sax, flauta e teclados nas baladas "20th Century Kid", "Mystery Brew" e "Follow My Heart". Sem destaque principal, pois se trata de um trabalho sólido.

Ótima pérola para fãs de hard blues/ prog rock, recomendado.

Pearl coming of Stockholm, capital of Sweden. The band Nature was formed in 1970 by former members of Blues Quality, releasing two albums in the early 70. After a few lineup changes, began to support of the local singer Ulf Lundell, making further partnerships with names like Pugh Rogefeldt and Dave Greenslade.
Post here their last album, Earthmover, 1974. It consists of 10 short tracks that combine hard rock with blues, psychedelia and progressive doses, with the covers "Summer in the City", "One Room Country Shack" and "This Wheel's on Fire". The sound is direct, with powerful guitar, harmonica and drums passages, other instruments appear well, but sporadically, as sax, flute and keyboards in the ballads "20th Century Kid", "Mystery Brew" and "Follow My Heart". No main highlight, because it is a solid job.
Great pearl to hard blues / prog rock fans, recommended.

Pérola vinda de Oslo, capital da Noruega. A dupla Finjarn & Jensen se formou em 1970 pelo guitarrista Svein Finjarn e o baterista Leif Jensen, logo após o fim da banda Jumbo. O projeto durou pouco tempo, deixando um único e raro álbum no mesmo ano, com participação de Freddy Lindquist e os baixistas Arild Krosby e Arne Kvikstad, sendo relançado apenas em 2009 pela Shadocks.
O homônimo de 1970 é composto por 7 faixas, maioria curtas, que combinam influências de variados estilos, principalmente rock psicodélico do final dos anos 60, doses de proto-prog, folk e hard rock de bandas inglesas e americanas. Letras em inglês e instrumental competente, com vários solos de guitarra, bateria e percussão aparecendo bem são as principais características do som. Destaque para "One More Day", "New Day", "Grey Skies" e "Sorry Girl, But Now I Know Things Will Be Much Better Now You've Gone".
Uma das grandes pérolas do rock psicodélico escandinavo, recomendado para fãs do estilo.

FOLK ROCK - WATERFALL - Same - 1972

Pérola vinda da região de Ticino, parte italiana da Suíça. O duo Waterfall teve vida curta, sendo ativo no começo dos anos 70, composto pelos músicos Corry Knobel e Eliano Galbiati. Resultou em um único e raríssimo álbum, lançado na Itália, com apenas 500 cópias que ainda foram apreendidas e perdidas na Suíça. O disco passou mais de 30 anos em total obscuridade, até que em 2003 foi relançado em CD pela Black Rills.
O homônimo de 1972 é um álbum curto, dividido em apenas 5 faixas curtas, com exceção da última. A música é basicamente folk rock acústico e calmo, dominada por violão, percussão e vocal viajante (todas as letras em inglês), bons, mas raros momentos de piano e guitarra aparecem. O destaque principal vai para "Waterfall - The Unknown Light", de quase 14 minutos, que fecha o disco em um clima mais psicodélico e progressivo.
Nada de essencial, mas uma boa pedida pra fãs de folk rock, com pitadas de prog.

Waterfall was a short-lived duo from Ticino, Italian part of Switzerland. It was composed of musicians Corry Knobel and Eliano Galbiati, they released only one and rare album in Italy with 500 copies, most part were also seized and lost in Switzerland. The album spent over 30 years in total obscurity, until 2003, when it was re-released on CD by Black Rills.
The self-titled of 1972 is a short album, divided into only 5 short tracks, except for the last. The music is basically acoustic and calm folk rock, dominated by acoustic guitar, percussion, vocal (all lyrics in English), some good, but rare moments of piano and guitar appear. The main focus is on "Waterfall - The Unknown Light", with almost 14 minutes, which closes the album in a more psychedelic and progressive atmosphere.
Nothing essential, but a good choice for folk rock fans, with bits of prog.

HARD PROG - CRYING WOOD - Back to the Mountains - 1970

Pérola formada em Apeldoon, na Holanda. Tiveram origem nos anos 60, com os irmãos Ben, Andre e Henk Groote, nomeados Goldstar Brothers e posteriormente Gee Bros, quando lançaram vários compactos. Em 1970 mudaram para Crying Wood, projeto que ainda contava com o baixista Cor Mestenbeld e organista Henny Backers, resultando em um compacto e outro raro LP (aparentemente lançado no Canadá), ambos em 1970. A banda se desfez logo depois, mas os irmãos voltariam a música no Air Bubble, anos mais tarde.
Back to the Mountains conta com 10 faixas, maioria curtas, que misturam rock psicodélico e progressivo, com forte pegada "hardeira", ao estilo de Uriah Heep e os conterrâneos do Focus. O instrumental é simples, mas direto, solos de órgão martelando e guitarra se revezam, no clima típico do rock setentista. As letras são todas em inglês, com potente vocal de Andre Groote.
Um petardo obscuro e empoeirado que vai agradar fãs de hard prog e psych.

Pearl formed in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. Originated in the 60s, by the brothers Ben, Andre and Henk Groote, Goldstar Brothers and later Gee Bros released several singles. Pérola vinda da Dinamarca, formada em 1970 na pequena cidade de Næstved. O quinteto Polyfeen foi ativo durante pouco tempo no começo dos anos 70 e se acabou sem deixar um registro oficial, apenas em 2001 uma gravação ao vivo da banda em 1972 foi recuperada e lançada pela Orpheus.
Langt ude i skoven é dividido em 6 faixas, maioria longas que combinam influencias de rock psicodélico e progressivo (proto-prog). Conta com muitas improvisações no instrumental, dominado por passagens de órgão e guitarra ácida, ao estilo de bandas locais, principalmente Alrune Rod, ainda mais por todas as letras serem em dinamarquês. O ponto baixo é a qualidade da gravação, realmente precária. Apesar de sólido, destaque fica para "Polyfeen", "Campingturen", "Leve Livet" e "Habet".
Mais uma ótima e obscura pérola vinda da Dinamarca, recomendado para fãs de prog/psych rock.

Pearl coming from Denmark, formed in 1970 in the small town of Næstved. The quintet Polyfeen was active for a short time in the early 70 and disbanded without release an official record, but in 2001 a live recording of the band in 1972 was recovered and launched by Orpheus.
Langt ude i Skoven is divided into 6 tracks, most long that combine psychedelic and progressive rock (proto-prog) influences. Has a lot of improvisation in instrumental, dominated by organ and acid guitar passages in the style of local bands, mainly Alrune Rod, even through all the lyrics are in Danish. The low point is the recording quality, really poor. Although solid, highlight is "Polyfeen", "Campingturen", "Take Livet" and "Habet".

Pérola vinda da Áustria; a banda Lazarus foi formada em 1970 na cidade de Neunkirchen pelo guitarrista Peter Glatzl. O grupo lançou um único álbum em 1973, gravado em Viena, pelo pequeno selo local Rex, com apenas 15 cópias! Sem sucesso, se desfizeram em 76 e caíram no esquecimento por quase 40 anos até o relançamento do disco pela Shadocks, em CD e LP, em 2014.
O homônimo é composto por 10 faixas curtas, com intenção de ser um álbum conceitual sobre a Ressurreição de Lázaro e certos toques de terror. O som traz típico rock psicodélico underground setentista, na maioria do tempo nervoso, com guitarra fuzz e bateria barulhenta, mas também algumas bonitas passagens folk-acústicas aparecem. O potente e viajante vocal de Helmut Sacher é outro ponto alto (todas as letras em inglês). Destaque para as duas partes de "Awakening of Lazarus", "Summer Distress", "The Wind Cries Your Name" e "Sweet Reflection".
Ótima pérola para fãs de rock psicodélico, recomendado!

Lazarus was a band formed in 1970 in Neunkirchen, Austria by guitarist Peter Glatzl. The group released one album in 1973, recorded in Vienna, by the small local label Rex, with only 15 copies! Unsuccessfully, disbanded in 76 and fell into oblivion for nearly 40 years until 2014, when it was re-release by Shadocks, on CD and LP.
The self-tiled consists of 10 short tracks, intended to be a concept album about the Resurrection of Lazarus with some touches of terror. The sound brings typical seventies underground psychedelic rock most of time nervous, with fuzz guitar and loud drums, but also some beautiful folk-acoustic passages appear. The powerful and trip Helmut Sacher's vocals is another highlight (all lyrics in English). Highlighting are the two parts of "Awakening of Lazarus", "Summer Distress", "The Wind Cries Your Name" and "Sweet Reflection". Great pearl to psychedelic rock fans, recommended!

Atendendo a pedidos, faço repost dessa obscura pérola vinda de Rosenberg, na Alemanha. O grupo Os Pescadores foi formado no começo dos anos 70 e lançou um único e raro álbum em 1972, de forma independente e até hoje não reeditado, sumindo do mapa logo depois.
Sound of Lonelyness é composto por 8 faixas, maioria curtas, que misturam influências das bandas alemãs e inglesas da época, no som "hardeiro", psicodélico e krautrock, mas com uma singularidade: a temática cristã nas canções. O instrumental merece destaque, guiado por primoroso trabalho no órgão de Thomas Hettinger e contando ainda com boas passagens de guitarra e piano. As letras são metade em alemão e outra em inglês, com vocais masculinos e femininos. Apesar de sólido, destaque para "Sound Of Loneliness", "Tausend Jahre", "Kreislauf" e "I'm So Very Suprised".
Recomendado para fãs de hard rock psicodélico, kraut e rock cristão.

Rarely does a Christian album burn with the musical intensity of Germany’s heavy progressive rockers Os Pescadores. Their molten brew of thunderous surging organ and blistering hard rock guitar often bubbles over with the brute force of bands like Deep Purple. Eight lengthy selections, four of which are in English (‘Thank You Lord’, ‘I’m So Very Surprised’, the searing title track, and the closing hymn ‘Amazing Grace’). The remaining four songs are in German and are equally good: ‘Meinst Du Wirklich’ (‘Do You Really Believe’), ‘Tausend Jahre’ (‘Thousand Years’), ‘Kreislauf’ (‘Circle’) and ‘Gibt’s Denn Niemand’ (‘Is There Nobody’). A rare and obscure big dollar private press thing that occasionally turns up in the international scene. Laminated foldout cover with cool fish design (with no pocket for the record it’s almost more like a deluxe insert). Solid joyous reckless headbangin’ for Jesus that can be filed alongside fellow pulverizers Earthen Vessel and Out Of Darkness. The band name means “the fishermen” in Portuguese.

GARAGE ROCK - REPUBLIKA 903 - Dve pesni/ So maki sum se rodil - 1970

Pérola rara da atual Macedônia. A Republika 903 se formou em 1970 na capital Skopie e teve certo sucesso local, mas se desfez em 1975 sem deixar nada oficial. Recentemente essas duas músicas, gravadas em 70, para uma rádio local, foram liberadas em formato digital, mas ainda pouco se sabe sobre a banda.
"Sve pensi" e "So maki sum se rodil" são faixas curtas e instrumentais, que misturam rock clássico, com leves toques psicodélicos e de garagem. O som é simples e direto, com competentes solos e riffs de guitarra, órgão e bateria. Interessante para fãs do velho e sujo rock de garagem.

Republika 903 was formed in 1970 in Skopje, current Macedonian capital. They had some local success, but disbanded in 1975 without leaving anything official. Recently these two songs recorded in 70, for a local radio station, were released in digital format, but little is known about the band.
"Sve pensi" and "So maki sum if rodil" are short and instrumental tracks, mixing classic rock with psychedelic and garage touches. The sound is simple and straightforward, with competent solos and riffs of organ, guitar and drums. Interesting to fans of old and dirty garage rock.

Faraoni é um grupo originário da pequena cidade de Izola, atual Eslovênia e antiga Iugoslávia. A banda foi formada em 1967, por jovens locais e passou por algumas mudanças na formação até 1972, quando encerram as atividades, deixando apenas um EP, lançado em 1970 pela Jugoton. Alguns de seus membros integraram Kameleoni e September durante os anos 70 até a volta do grupo em 80. De lá pra cá, lançaram vários discos pop e possuem grande popularidade local.
Posto este único EP da primeira fase, quando tinham som voltado ao rock clássico e psicodélico, claramente influenciada pelas bandas ocidentais do fim dos anos 60. É composto por apenas 3 curtas canções, mas que mostram a forte pegada dos músicos no instrumental, com guitarra, bateria e órgão; vocal na língua local.
Com certeza, os caras tinham potencial para lançar mais coisas na época, pérola recomendada para fãs de hard rock psicodélico.

Faraoni is a group from Izola, current Slovenia and former Yugoslavia. The band was formed in 1967 by local youth and passed through some lineup changes until 1972, when ended the activities, leaving only an EP, released in 1970 by Jugoton. Some of its members integrated Kameleoni and September during the 70s until the group revival in 1980. Since then, they released several pop albums and have great local popularity.
Post their only EP from the "first era", with classic and psychedelic rock, clearly influenced by Western bands of the late 60. It consists of just three short songs, but that show a strong and heavy instrumental, with guitar, drums and organ; vocal are all in the local language.
Sure, the guys had potential to release more things at the time, recommended pearl for hard and psychedelic rock fans.
