PROG ROCK - RICHARD LAST GROUP - Get Ready - 1972

Pérola vinda da Itália, ativa no começo dos anos 70. Pouco se sabe sobre Richard Last Group, eles eram provavelmente do sul do país e deixaram um único e raro disco, lançado originalmente em 1972 e com nova versão em 1999. Apesar de contar com 7 membros, apenas o líder Richard Coley é conhecido, este que partiu para carreira solo no ano seguinte (produzindo outro raríssimo LP em 73) e resultando no fim da banda.

O álbum Get Ready é composto por 12 curtas faixas, sendo apenas três composições originais, combinando influências de rock progressivo (principalmente britânico, tendo Jethro Tull como principal referência), soft/ folk rock e psicodelia. Encontram seus melhores momentos no instrumental, com boas melodias e passagens de flauta, órgão, guitarra e até metais, mas sem tanta criatividade para fazer desta obra uma memorável dentro do RPI. Todas as letras são em inglês.
Nenhuma obra-prima, mas ainda uma boa audição para fãs de rock progressivo.

Little is known about this band. Info about the band, pretty damn hard to find.
Released in ’72 (on Le Orme’s label, Car Juke Box), a completely unknown formation from the underground of the Italian prog movement, Akarma believes that all of the musicians contained here are of Italian origin, but it is unclear. The band was comprised of 7 members and they presented a sound comparable to British groups from the 70’s like Jethro Tull. The music is very nice - lots of flutes, soft and beautiful harmony in the spirit of Jethro Tull and Traffic, a successful addition to the guitar and organ. Of the 12 tracks, only three original compositions. In fact in one of the first tracks they play a cover of “Dharma For One”, plus they offer two other covers later on, “Eye To Eye” & “I Have A Dream”. Jazz-rock with electric & electro-acoustic mutations, song in English, showing good technical qualities but little in creativity.
This album was released on the unknown Alexandra label. Judging from the title of one of the original compositions on the album, Naples in rock, it was easy to think that the group was from that city.

HARD ROCK - THE BOLTON IRON MAIDEN - Maiden Flight - 2005 (1970-76)

Pérola rara vinda de Bolton, cidade ao norte da Inglaterra. Este Iron Maiden não pode ser confundindo com o dos anos 60, que lançou o disco Maiden Voyage e muito menos a famosa banda de heavy metal, sendo o segundo na ordem cronológica. O trio foi formado por jovens locais em 1967, mas mudaram de nome definitivamente apenas em 1970, alcançando certa popularidade nos anos seguintes, tocando em bares e faculdades e chegando a dividir palco com Chicken Shack, Procol Harum e Thin Lizzy. Em 1976 o grupo chegou ao fim precoce após a morte do guitarrista Ian Smith por câncer, sem lançar nada na época.
Apenas 30 anos depois, em 2005, antigas gravações dos caras voltaram a vida em Maiden Flight, sendo todo o dinheiro de vendas doado para pesquisas contra o câncer. Ainda em 2007, outro disco com covers saiu em CD. O álbum é dividido em 12 faixas próprias, sendo 4 gravadas em estúdio e as outras de forma precária ao vivo, trazendo um rock pesado e direto do começo ao fim, típico da época e com doses de blues e psicodelia, tocado por um power trio barulhento e competente.
Prato cheio para amantes do "hardão setentista", altamente recomendado!

A different Iron Maiden coming from Bolton, town in north of England. They can not be confused with the '60s band, which launched the Maiden Voyage and the famous heavy metal band, being the second in chronological order. The trio was formed by local youths in 1967, but have definitely changed in name only in 1970, reaching certain popularity in the following years, playing in bars and colleges and sharing stage with Chicken Shack, Procol Harum, Thin Lizzy and others. In 1976 the group came to an end after the early death of guitarist Ian Smith from cancer, without releasing anything at the time.
Only 30 years later, in 2005, old recordings of the guys came to the light in Maiden Flight, and all money was donated to cancer research. Also in 2007, another disc of covers came out on CD. The album is divided into 12 own tracks, 4 studio and other precariously live recordings, bringing a heavy and straight rock from start to finish, typical of the time and with blues and psychedelic doses, played by a noisy and competent power trio. A great gem for 70s hard rock lovers, highly recommended!

Pérola obscura vinda da Bélgica, o power trio Load Control foi formado na cidade de Dinant no começo dos anos 70. Lançaram dois raros compactos em anos desconhecidos (alguns dizem por volta de 1972) e sumiram do mapa, assim como dezenas de outras bandas da cena local. Posto aqui o primeiro, com as músicas "Scotland" e "Words of Wisdom", ambas curtas e cantadas em inglês, trazendo típica pegada do hard rock setentista, com altas doses psicodélicas e até considerada como proto-doom por alguns sites. Solos nervosos e chapados de guitarra lideram o som, seguidos por bateria barulhenta e baixo. Excelente, porém breve registro que vai agradar fãs de hard rock psicodélico.

Obscure pearl coming from Belgium, the power trio Load Control was formed in Dinant in the early 70s and released two rare singles in unknown years (some say by 1972) and disappeared soon after, as dozens of other local scene bands. Post here the first single, with the songs "Scotland" and "Words of Wisdom", both short and sung in English, bringing typical early 70s hard rock, with high psychedelic doses and even considered as proto-doom by some sites. Fussy and stoned guitar solos leads the soung sound, followed by noisy drums and bass. Excellent, however brief record that will please heavy and psych rock fans.

HARD BLUES ROCK - TŰZKERÉK - Tűzkerék '78 Koncertfelvétel Iváncsa - 2014 (1978)

Fechando esta série de postagens do leste europeu em alto estilo, com o lendário guitarrista húngaro Radics Béla e seu grupo Tűzkerék. A banda foi formada em 1970 na capital Budapeste, influenciada por grandes nomes do blues rock ocidental, tendo uma primeira fase como quarteto até 1972 e parando as atividades até 1975 (neste meio tempo Radics montou alguns projetos como Taurus e Alligátor). Seguiram a partir dali como power trio, apesar de mudanças constantes na formação e problemas com o governo, mas o ponto final veio em outubro de 1982, com a morte do guitarrista e sem nenhum disco oficial lançado.
Apenas em 2010 uma gravação ao vivo do trio em 1978 foi lançada em LP limitado e quatro anos mais tarde em CD, com 2 faixas a mais, totalizando nove. Ouvimos aqui vários covers de nomes como Hendrix, Yardbirds, Willie Dixon e Led Zeppelin, mostrando as claras influências "blueseiras" dos músicos, executadas em longos jams, com trabalho excepcional e nervoso da guitarra, acompanhada por marcantes linhas de baixo, bateria quebrando tudo e vocais espaçados (em inglês e também húngaro).
Sonzeira do começo ao fim, com sonoridade próxima do começo dos anos 70. Altamente recomendado!

The group Tűzkerék was formed in 1970 in Hungarian capital Budapest, influenced by western blues rock bands, being a quartet until 1972 and stopping activities until 1975 (in the meantime Radics set up some projects like Taurus and Alligátor). After this, they continued as a power trio, despite constant lineup changes and problems with the government. The end came in October 1982 with the death of guitarist and leader Radics Béla, without any official record released.
Only in 2010 a live recording of the trio in 1978 was released in LP and four years later on CD with two tracks more, totaling nine. We hear several covers from artists like Hendrix, Yardbirds, Willie Dixon and Led Zeppelin, showing clear blues influences, performed in long jams with exceptional and heavy guitar work, accompanied by striking bass lines, crazy drums and spaced vocals (in English and also Hungarian). The sound is very close to the early '70s. Highly recommend for hard blues rock fans.

BLUES ROCK - APOKALIPSA - Niepublikowane - 2006 (1973-77)

Formação Original

Pérola obscura vinda da Polônia, formada em 1973 em Katowice pelo guitarrista Matthias Radziejewski (que rapidamente saiu do grupo para tocar com Czesław Niemen) e o vocalista e gaitista Ireneusz Dudek. A banda Apokalipsa durou cerca de 4 anos, chegando a abrir para Rory Gallagher, mas após algumas mudanças na formação e sem chegar a lançar nada na época, se desfizeram.
Apenas em 2006 algumas faixas gravadas 30 anos antes na cidade de Poznań foram lançadas em uma compilação com outros trabalhos de Dudek, chamada Niepublikowane ("Inédito"). Posto aqui as 4 músicas do grupo, trazendo uma mistura de blues, rock e até jazz, cantadas na língua local e afinado trabalho instrumental com guitarra, harmônica e violino, em momentos "arrastado" e outros animado.
Infelizmente este é o pouco material sobrevivente dos caras, que tinham capacidade para lançar muito mais.

HARD ROCK - TREF - Marica Rock - 1976/77

Mais uma pérola obscura vinda da antiga Iugoslávia. A banda Tref (ou Grupa Tref) foi formada na cidade de Osijek, atual Croácia, tendo breve período de atividades. Assim como a maioria dos grupos locais não chegou a lançar nada oficial na época, apenas algumas músicas gravadas na rádio local por volta de 1976 e 77 foram posteriormente recuperadas e voltaram a vida graças a internet.
Marica Rock (nome dado graças a canção mais famosa dos caras) traz 6 curtas faixas de rock clássico "arroz e feijão", simples e direto, com pegadas de hard e garage. A guitarra lidera o instrumental através de bons riffs e solos, acompanhada de bateria/baixo e órgão ocasionalmente. As letras são todas em língua local, com vários momentos de coro.

Another pearl coming from the former Yugoslavia. The band Tref (or Grupa Tref) was formed in Osijek, current Croatia, and was short-lived. Like most local groups they didn't release anything official at the time, only a few songs recorded for local radio around 1976/ 77 were later recovered and unofficially released on internet.
"Marica Rock" brings 6 short and simple classic rock tracks with touches of hard and garage. The guitar leads the instrumental through good riffs and solos, accompanied by drums / bass and organ occasionally. The lyrics are all in the local language, with several moments of chorus.

Pérola esquecida no tempo, vinda da antiga Iugoslávia. A maioria das informações sobre o guitarrista e compositor Ljubomir Sedlar são desconhecidas, sabe-se que nasceu na atual região da Sérvia e participou de colaborou em bandas locais nos anos 70 como Opus e Zlatni Prsti. Ele também lançou dois raríssimos álbuns solos entre fim da década de 70 e começo de 80, sumindo do mundo da música logo após.
Posto aqui seu debut de 1978, Uz Pomoć Velikih Prijatelja (traduzido como "Com ajuda de grandes amigos"). É dividido em 8 curtas faixas que trazem funk rock com pegadas de disco e pop, típicos da época e na região, cantado na língua local e com vocais masculinos e femininos. O destaque fica para o instrumental, combinando guitarra "groove" de Ljubomir, percussão e bons solos de órgão Hammond e sintetizador. Quanto as faixas, as melhores são "Igraj sa njom", "Jedriličar", "New York, New York" e "Glavni drug".
Nada de essencial, mas interessante trabalho para fãs de funk rock.

Gem coming from the former Yugoslavia. Most of the information about the guitarist and composer Ljubomir Sedlar are unknown, he was born in the current region of Serbia and collaborated in local bands in the '70s as Opus and Zlatni prsti. He also released two rare solo albums between the late 70th and early 80th, leaving the music world soon after.
Post here his debut of 1978, "Uz pomoc Velikih Prijatelja" (translated as "With the help of great friends"). It is divided into eight short tracks that bring funk rock with disco and pop touches, typical of the time and region, sung in the local language and with male and female vocals. The highlight is the instrumental, combining Ljubomir's "groove" guitar, percussion and good Hammond organ and synthesizer solos. As for the tracks, the best are "Igraj sa njom", "Jedriličar",  "New York, New York" and "Glavni drug". Nothing essential, but interesting work for funk rock/ disco fans.

Diana Express (em búlgaro Диана Експрес) foi uma banda formada em Sofia, capital da Búlgaria em 1974 pelo tecladista Mitko Shterev e jovens locais. Lançaram vários discos até os anos 80, alcançando grande popularidade local na época. Mesmo após a pausa os antigos membros se reúnem de tempos em tempos para apresentações.
Posto aqui o debut homônimo de 1974, lançado pela estatal Balkanton. É dividido em 8 faixas cantadas na língua local e mostrando grande capacidade por parte dos músicos em certos momentos ao seguir linha hard prog (tanto quanto inovadora para a região na época), com excelente trabalho no órgão de Shterev, se revezando com guitarra, comparado por alguns com Deep Purple. O ponto fraco é a irregularidade do disco, sendo outras músicas pop/ comerciais. O destaque vai para "Diana Express", "Without You", "Ballad" e "Rodop Woman".
Ainda assim ouvimos bons e decentes momentos, recomendado para fãs de hard prog.

Diana Express (Диана Експрес) was a band formed in Sofia, capital of Bulgaria in 1974 by Mitko Shterev. They released several albums until the 80s, reaching great local popularity at the time. Even after the break, former members reunit from time to time for presentations.
Post here the self-titled debut of 1974. It is divided into eight tracks sung in the local language and showing great ability by the musicians at times playing hard progressive rock (in some form innovative for the region at the time), with excellent work in Shterev's organ, taking turns with guitar, compared by some people with Deep Purple. The weak point is the disc irregularity, with other pop / commercial songs. Key tracks are "Diana Express," "Without You", "Ballad" and "Rodop Woman". There is some good and decent moments to hear, recommended for hard prog fans.

HARD PROG/ PSYCH - VARIOUS - Eesti rocki lapsepõlv - 1995 (1970-76)

Postagem especial ao Dia Mundial do Rock, mostrando que o estilo é global e independe de qualquer fronteira. A compilação Eesti rocki lapsepõlv (O começo do rock estoniano) surgiu de forma quase independente em forma de cassete nos anos 90, recuperando grupos do rock local na década de 70, sendo que a maioria não chegou a lançar algo oficial. Em 2014 ela foi estendida aos anos 60, com bandas de beat locais e lançada em 3 CDs pela Hitivabrik.
A coletânea é composta por 18 faixas de 10 bandas, gravadas entre 1970 e 76, algumas já postadas por aqui, como Väntorel e Meie. As influências são variadas, passando por rock progressivo, psicodélico e hard, com momentos melódicos e outros pesados. A maioria das músicas são simples e diretas, com instrumental competente, solos de guitarra, em alguns pontos órgão, flauta e piano aparecem bem, acompanhando as letras na língua local.
Uma excelente entrada ao rock soviético e da Estônia, pérola recomendada.

 The compilation Eesti rocki lapsepõlv (The beginning of Estonian rock) came almost independently in cassette form in the 90s, recovering local rock groups in the 70s, and most haven't even release anything official at time. In 2014 it was extended to 60 years, with local beat bands and released on 3 CDs by Hitivabrik.
The collection consists of 18 tracks of 10 bands, recorded between 1970 and 76, some already posted here, as Väntorel and Meie. The influences are varied, going through progressive, psychedelic and hard rock, with melodic and other agitated moments. Most of the songs are simple and straightforward, with competent instrumental, guitar solos, sometimes organ, flute and piano appear well, following the lyrics in the local language. An excellent entrance to Soviet and Estonian rock, recommended pearl.

JAZZ FUSION/ FUNK - SAULIUS ŠIAUČIULIS - Credo - 1981 (1979)

O pianista Saulius Šiaučiulis nasceu na Lituânia (antiga URSS) em 1951, começando sua carreira nos anos 70 em sua cidade natal Klaipėda. Lá integrou pequenas orquestras e ainda é professor, além de formar sua própria banda no fim da mesma década e realizar várias parcerias com músicos da região, tendo uma volumosa discografia.
Posto aqui um de seus primeiros trabalhos, Credo, gravado em 1979 e lançado dois anos mais tarde pela Melodya. Como citado acima, se trata de um disco de jazz fusion, com altas influências de funk (swing), dividido em 6 faixas instrumentais. Ouvimos aqui uma interação dinâmica entre um excelente time de músicos, com destaque para a apresentação invejável de Saulius no piano, mas ainda com saxofone, metais, percussão e bateria/ baixo.
Um dos ótimos trabalhos à serem explorados por fãs de jazz vindo dos países Bálticos, recomendado!

The pianist Saulius Šiaučiulis was born in Lithuania (former USSR) in 1951, beginning his career in the 70s in his hometown Klaipėda. There he integrated small orchestras and is still teacher, also formed his own band at the end of the decade and performed with various local musicians, having a voluminous discography.
Post here one of his early works, "Credo", recorded in 1979 and released two years later by Melodya. As mentioned above, it's jazz fusion with high funk (swing) influences, divided into 6 instrumental tracks. We hear a dynamic and well-made interaction between saxophone, brass, percussion, drums / bass and of course Saulius' piano in an enviable presentation.
One of the great works to be explored by jazz fans from the Baltic countries, recommended!
