Mais uma excelente compilação redescobrindo o rock e sua influência na música de regiões pouco tradicionais no estilo, ainda mais se falando sobre década de 70. Thai? Dai! The Heavier Side of the Luk Thung Underground foi uma coletânea lançada em 2011 pela Finders Keepers, trazendo várias pérolas do do lado "underground" do estilo de música popular tailandês, o Luk Thung. As gravações originais foram lançadas na maioria em compactos raríssimos nos anos 70.
"Thai? Dai!" É composto por 14 faixas curtas de Luk Thung, mas com pesadas influências de hard rock e psicodelia da época, liderados pelo som de Sroeng Santi (que está na capa do CD/ LP). Riffs pesados na guitarra, estridente e distorcida marcam o som, contando ainda com forte órgão, percussão e metais, dando um toque funk para o som. As letras são todas na língua local, vocais masculinos e femininos, dando ainda mais singularidade ao som e letras, segundo revisões da internet, falando sobre o dia-dia local.
Um lançamento único, que não vai agradas a todos os ouvidos, mas recomendado para quem procura algo diferente.

 It is a not-to-miss track which has an incorporation of “Iron Man” from Black Sabbath beautifully included as just a strong riff to a Thai song, with convincing parts and even sonically interesting singing, and an attractive drum/bass rhythmic theme fitting with the song and riff. Thai singing I remember as being not exactly the most easy language, voice or singing to get used to for a western taste in syllables and variations, this track alone is one of the best and most convincing starters. The compilers did a terrific job, for this compilation is totally different from all previous Thai pop compilations. First of all, it is a lot heavier. Amazing are the Thai folk starting points for a new melting-pot of ideas with heavy electric riffs, like the one from Black Sabbath, or repetitive bass and drums comparable to Ethiopian jazz, and even some garage jamming and some heavy electric guitar solos, and a few tracks with a funky groove. One of the tracks borrowed, in the same way some elements were taken from BLS, is from one of the most recognisable Morricone instrumentals, played by trumpet and such, mixed with brass, rock, Thai folk, organ and so on. One other track has a humoristic part with spoken word. Every track is convincing on this compilation. Something for the “psych” lovers looking for that exotic difference of all the elements they like.

HARD/ PSYCH ROCK - SORENG SANTI - Iron Man / Dub Fai Kui Gun - 2010 (197?)

Pérola vinda da Tailândia, o cantor e músico Soreng Santi (também conhecido como Sroeng Santi ou สรวง สันติ, em tailandês) foi um dos grandes nomes do "Luk Thung", estilo popular do país nos anos 70 e um dos pioneiros na mistura do rock ocidental e da música local. Lançou um único LP em 1978 e veio a falecer logo em 1982, apenas recentemente algumas músicas foram redescobertas e finalmente lançadas em alguns compactos 7" pela Finders Keepers.
Posto aqui o primeiro single de 2010, gravado em ano ainda não conhecido, provavelmente segunda metade da década de 70. O lado A é uma versão muito curiosa e única do clássico Iron Man, do Sabbath, seguindo o mesmo riff pesado, mas com letra na língua local, traduzidas diretamente da música original! A segunda canção "Dub Fai Kuigun" também é bastante interessante, rock psicodélico/ ácido, com forte ligação ao som típico da região, contando com xilofone de bambu, percussão e vocal em tailandês, mas guitarra fuzz barulhenta, ao estilo "garageiro" dos anos 60.
Pérola realmente singular, ouçam e tirem suas conclusões.

Pearl from Thailand, singer and musician Soreng Santi (also known as Santi Sroeng or สรวง สันติ in Thai) was popular in the 70s and one of the pioneers in mixture of Western rock and local music. Released an only LP in 1978 and died soon in 1982, only recently some songs were rediscovered and finally released in some 7" singles by Finders Keepers. 
Post here the 2010' single, recorded in an unknown year. Side A is a very curious and unique version of Sabbath's classic "Iron Man", following the same heavy riff, but with lyrics in the local language, translated directly from the original song! The second one "Dub Fai Kuigun" is also quite interesting, psychedelic/ acid rock, with strong region's typical music, like bamboo xylophone, percussion and vocals in Thai, but noisy fuzz guitar, 60s garage style.
