Comentário: Cyril Havermans é um músico holandês que começou sua carreira em vários grupos pequenos nos anos 60, sendo lembrado principalmente por integrar o Brainbox e posteriormente a lendária Focus, chegando a gravar Moving Waves, quando saiu para seguir carreira solo. 

Posto aqui o primeiro e penúltimo disco dele, que conta com participação de todos os membros do Focus na época, além de outros convidados. São 10 curtas faixas de folk rock majoritariamente acústico, longe das grandes composições feitas por sua ex-banda, mas ainda sim muito bem executadas e arranjadas. Os toques dos gênios Akkerman e Thijs van Leer dão um ar mais progressivo em várias canções, com passagens de flauta, órgão, guitarra e percussão.

Um belo e interessante registro não só para fãs de Focus, mas folk progressivo como um todo. Recomendado!

Cyril is the first solo album by Dutch singer-songwriter Cyril Havermans. It was recorded in 1973 after Havermans left Dutch progressive rock band Focus. The parting was amicable and came about partly as a result of Havermans' desire to include more vocal content (Focus are primarily an instrumental band). His erstwhile band-mates contribute much instrumentation to the album. The songs are, for the most part, short acoustic guitar driven numbers and bear little resemblance to Focus material (Havermans did not write for the band). The lyrics are in English, apart from the traditional song "The Humpbacked Flute Player".

Comentário: Este foi provavelmente um projeto de estúdio formado pelo músico, compositor e arranjador polonês Wojciech Trzciński, nascido em 1949 em Varsóvia, em companhia de outros nomes da cena local. O resultado foi este único e raro LP, com 10 curtas faixas instrumentais que mesclam jazz, popular na época, soul / funk e até disco, numa pegada easy listening em vários momentos. Os sintetizadores dominam, acompanhados por percussão, metais e coros femininos ao fundo em algumas músicas, porém sem letras. Apesar de não trazer grandes novidades para o estilo, ainda sim vale a audição para fãs do estilo.

This was probably a studio project formed by Polish musician, composer and arranger Wojciech Trzciński, born in 1949 in Warsaw, along with other names from the local scene. The result was this only and rare LP, with 10 short instrumental tracks that mix jazz, popular at the time, soul / funk and even disco and easy listening at various times. The synthesizers dominate, accompanied by percussion, metal and female choirs in the background in some songs, but without lyrics. Although it does not bring great news for the style, still it is worth hearing for fans of the style.

Este compacto traz 2 curtas músicas que mesclam rock psicodélico, jazz e ritmos indianos (raga), ao estilo do fim dos anos 60, majoritariamente instrumental e com presença de sitar, sax, flauta, percussão, guitarra, proporcionando uma atmosfera viajante / ácida.
Com certeza um grupo que tinha capacidade para ter lançado um álbum completo, mas ainda assim pode ser apreciado.

A New Zealand-based group that released only one rare single and soon disbanded, being known to have as members Kevin Clark and David Parsons, who established careers in other local bands. This single has 2 short songs that mix psychedelic rock, jazz and Indo-raga music, in the style of the late 60's, mostly instrumental and with presence of sitar, sax, flute, percussion, guitar, providing a trippy / acid atmosphere.
Certainly a group that had the ability to have released a full album, but still can be enjoyed with these 2 songs.

Comentário: Trilha sonora de um premiado documentário lançado ano passado sobre o movimento hippie na antiga URSS e que agora ganha uma bela versão com as músicas de bandas citadas em uma edição limitada em vinil.

 Trata-se de uma excelente compilação, reunindo o fino do rock psicodélico soviético em 11 faixas de nomes da cena underground da época, alguns já postados aqui, como Yuri Morozov, Ornament, Suuk e Väntorel, oriundos das atuais Rússia e Estônia. Guitarras distorcidas, órgão 'martelando' e letras sempre na língua local dão o tom em quase todas as canções, algumas flertando até com o prog, como é o caso de 'Valged hommikud', do Mess, sendo raros os momentos fracos.

Uma excelente introdução as catacumbas do rock atrás da 'Cortina de ferro', recomendado (tanto o documentário quanto o LP).

Soundtrack of an award-winning documentary released last year about the hippie movement in the former USSR and which now gains a beautiful version with the songs of bands quoted in a limited vinyl edition.

  This is an excellent compilation, bringing together the finest of Soviet psychedelic rock in 11 tracks of the underground scene of the time, some names already posted here, such as Yuri Morozov, Ornament, Suuk and Väntorel, from present-day Russia and Estonia. Distorted guitars, heavy organ and lyrics always in the local language set the tone in almost all the songs, some flirting even with prog rock, as is the case of 'Valged hommikud', Mess, rare moments being rare.

An excellent introduction to the rock catacombs behind the 'Iron Curtain', highly recommended (both the doc and LP).

Este álbum é dividido em 12 curtas faixas que mesclam folk e psicodelia, em faixas na maioria do tempo acústicas, com boa parceria entre violão, percussão e piano, além de alguns momentos mais viajantes no sax, flauta e mellotron. As letras são todas em língua local e a produção dá um ar amador. 
Uma daquelas obras que valem mais pela raridade do que qualidade presente, mas mesmo assim vale a pena a audição.

Only and obscure LP of this Belgian singer and musician, released privately with 100 copies. No further information is known about the same. This album is divided into 12 short tracks that mix folk and psychedelia, most of the time acoustic, with good acoustic guitar, percussion and piano, as well as some more trippy moments in the sax, flute and mellotron. The lyrics are all in local language and the production gives an amateur atmosphere.
One of those records that are worth more for rarity than quality, but still worth the hearing.

Comentário: Grupo formado em Bergen pelos irmãos Ove e Trygve Thue, ativo no começo dos anos 70, lançando 3 álbuns na época, que apesar de relativo sucesso não evitaram o fim precoce da banda. Fazem reuniões esporádicas pelo país há duas décadas. Este segundo LP é o mais raro, mesclando rock progressivo com uma pegada fusion em faixas mais longas (que, pessoalmente, são as mais interessantes), além de algumas na linha de rock clássico e country comercial, porém não ruins. A parte instrumental acaba sendo destaque frente aos vocais em inglês, que não agradam tanto, lideradas pelas boas passagens de órgão e guitarra.

A group from Bergen formed in 1970. Thue, Thue and Halvorsen earned their living as musicians during the local staging of the "Hair" musical. Their first album was a really mixed bag with moments of both glory (the beautiful, pastoral "Couple Of Freaks", the energic progressive rock of "Don't Look Back" and the warbling, quasi-psychedelic "Fly") and failure (the hopeless "Opus 1", the painstakingly naive "All The Time" and the tedious "So Long"). Main writer Ove Thue had a fascination for The Beach Boys and The Beatles, resulting in some favorable vocal arrangements. The problem for Saft was the lack of a specific sound and the mixture of English and Norwegian lyrics. "Horn" managed to maintain a more homogenous sound throughout, mixing song-based jazzy progressive rock with American folklore. The group slowly drifted apart with Trygve Thue joining Rune Walle in the short-lived group Hole In The Wall. Walle followed Thue back to a revamped Saft. Their new album Stev, Sull, Rock & Rull (1973) merged simple rock'n'roll, folk and country to much critical and popular acclaim, but will be of restricted interest to foreign collectors several decades later.

Comentário: Grupo de Tóquio, ativo na segunda metade dos anos 70 e que lançou apenas um LP, além de abrir um show no país para Judas Priest. Este é um disco de hard rock que lembra nomes como Scorpions e Rainbow, além de pitadas das primeiras bandas da NWOBHM, apesar de ficar longe de uma mera cópia. São 10 curtas e sólidas faixas de hard / heavy bem executado, ora melódico ora agressivo, liderado pelo ótimo trabalho nas guitarras, acompanhando os fortes vocais de Ace Nakaya (com letras todas em japonês). Ótima pérola para fãs de hard e metal setentista.

Hard rock/metal band from Tokyo formed in 1978 and inspired by NWOBHM. Nokemono released this album in ’79 on the SMS (Sounds Marketing System) label and fancied themselves a KISS/Maiden type of band.
Musically this album is all around excellent. It’s exceptionally innovative and stylish, and has a huge NWOBHM feel, despite being such an early album from Japan of all places. Ace’s vocals are very strong, with a similar delivery to Kyoji Yamamoto’s style, but aren’t as hyper, though still smooth and very nearly as good. Cherry’s bass is played to excellence, taking on melodies constantly throughout and driving the music forward with as great of an effect as a bassist can possibly have without overwhelming the other instrumentalists, Popeye’s drums are nimble and and slick and with an added cowbell on certain songs, it contributes largely to From the Black World’s overall catchyness, but perhaps the best of all is the guitar work of Rolla and Buchan, with plenty of fantastic riffs throughout, their guitar tone isn’t one that typically comes to mind for a metal album, as I’m more accustomed to hearing it on the rock albums of the 70s, though it works brilliantly well. The whole band’s chemistry is crazy tight and every member compliments the others.
Excellent later 70’s / early 80’s Japanese Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, second to none (Loudness, Bow Wow, Sabrabells…) but obscure even in Japan. Very good guitar work and some exciting epic instrumental parts á la Rainbow.

Há forte presença de coral, tendo vozes masculinas e femininas. Conta com grande número de músicos, apesar de ser na maioria do tempo um som acústico, tendo destaque as passagens de percussão, flauta, órgão e sax.
Um bom exemplo de rock cristão, porém de personalidade dos anos 70, recomendado!

Group formed in Hartford by a local gospel community in the late 60's, releasing only one rare album, disappearing from the map and leaving no more information. This is an album of 10 short tracks that mix diverse styles like country, blues, gospel, funk and psych, being two covers of Bob Dylan. There is a strong presence of coral, having male and female voices. It has a large number of musicians, although most of the time it is an acoustic sound, with highlights of the percussion, flute and sax passages. A good example of Christian rock, but with personality, recommended!

Comentário: Formado em Dakar em 1972 por ex-membros do grupos locais, este conjunto levou o nome do clube onde costumava tocar, o Sahel. Apesar da importância local, lançou apenas um álbum em 75 e após décadas fizeram alguns shows de reunião pelo país.

Este é considerado o primeiro disco de Mbalax já feito, estilo que ganharia popularidade nos anos seguintes com a mistura de ritmos tradicionais do oeste africano (sabar), música latina e caribenha, especialmente salsa, além da norte-americana, como jazz, rock, funk e soul. São 6 longas faixas dominadas por passagens ricas e cadenciadas no instrumental, que refletem essa mesclagem de estilos, havendo uso de guitarra, flauta, órgão, forte sessão de metais e de percussão típica. Os vocais também estão presentes e não ficam devendo, principalmente pelos coros que em momentos viram lamentos; sendo as letras todas em letra local, com exceção do cover de 'Caridad', em espanhol.

Altamente recomendado para todo fã de música africana contemporânea.

Formed in Dakar in 1972 by former members of small local groups, this group took the name of the club where they used to play, the Sahel. Despite the local importance, they released only one album in '75 and after decades did some reunion shows across the country.

This is considered the first Mbalax album ever made, a style that would gain popularity in the following years with the mix of traditional rhythms of West African (Sabar), Latin and Caribbean music, especially salsa, as well as North American jazz, rock, funk and soul. There are 6 long tracks dominated by rich and rhythmic passages in the instrumental, which reflect this mix of styles, using guitar, flute, organ, strong typical percussion and brass session. The vocals are also present and are also great, especially by the choruses that in moments are close to laments; being the lyrics all in local language, with the exception of the cover of 'Caridad', in Spanish. Highly recommended for every fan of contemporary African music.

Comentário: Projeto do multi-instrumentista originário da Cidade do México Carlos Alvarado, fundador de outras bandas como Chac Mool e Decibel, além do seu próprio selo Momia, sendo figura importante na cena local na época. O Vía Lactea em especial realizou um LP (ganhando versão remasterizada e com bônus), além de alguns bootlegs e outras sobras que saíram de forma não-oficial.

Trata-se de um disco totalmente instrumental e mergulhado no progressivo eletrônico, música ambiente e espacial. Dividido em 9 longas faixas, que pelos próprios títulos, constroem uma viagem pelo cosmo e pelos ancestrais pré-colombianos, reflexos disso são a vasta quantidade de instrumentos eletrônicos, como teclados ARP, Kong, Yamaha, sintetizadores, piano, mellotron, combinados com passagens de flauta e percussão tradicionais, resultando em vários nuances e texturas ao longo da obra. Recomendo fechar os olhos e viajar com essa ótima e obscura peça do progressivo latino-americano.

In a sense, it combines the best of worlds, celestial sonic exploration and deeply emotional spiritual listening. A concept album, the track titles convey the musical journey Carlos undertaking - The Structure of the Universe, Garden of the Divine Presence, Into the Light, Man in Eternity, Meditation Post Atomic & The Lark and the Virgin. He employs a vast array of classic electronic instruments - ARP, Korg, Yamaha, synthesizers, Crumar Orchestrator, Mellotron, Piano, Flute & Tapes. The album also features notable guest musicians such as Jorge Reyes and Arturo Meza. The music you encounter upon listening is not easy to describe. Simply listen, close your eyes and imagine yourself in a majestic Holy Shrine. The sound of the earth’s heartbeat is slowly pulsating in different rhythms; solar winds from out of the sky are alternately wafting then gusting through the open spaces. In accompaniment, elemental sounds of nature fill the air, comingling with melodies from the cosmic spheres and the warm tones of exotic analogue electronica.
