Neste segundo volume, ouvimos outras 7 faixas retiradas do mesmo ao vivo e seguindo a mesma linha do primeiro registro: longas, viajantes e muito ricas no instrumental, onde predominam as improvisações e encontro entre ritmos tradicionais e da música ocidental. O vocal em língua local é outro ponto que chama a atenção, poderoso e emotivo.

Excelente pedida para fãs de rock africano, psicodélico, jazz e afrobeat em geral.

Dieuf-Dieul de Thiès in their second volume album. This multi-talented band demonstrates on this album its ability to cross over different kinds of music, from Mbalax to Afro-Cuban and Afro-Jazz ballads without loosing any tip from its original Psychedelic Sound with the fuzz guitars, strong horn sections and percussion, which gave to the band this unique identity.

Five out of seven overall tracks feature Bassirou Sarr, a truly exceptional singer. Whether in a ballad or some explosive Mbalax, Bassirou's voice is always full of emotion. One of the two remaining tunes, a great latin cover sung by Assane Camara, shows how good performers Dieuf-Dieul actually were and finally one powerful Mbalax track sung by the great Griot Gora Mbaye, displaying his strong links to the tradition of Senegal.

AFRO JAZZ/ ROCK - DIEUF-DIEUL DE THIÈS - Aw Sa Yone Vol.1 - 2013 (1981)

Fechando essa pequena série de postagens sobre artistas obscuros da África, um som de Senegal! O Dieuf-Dieul de Thiès foi formado por Pape Seck (ex-Guelewar), Assane Camara e Gora Mbaye, o trio liderou a banda, responsável por um dos primeiros sons que misturava música regional e ocidental. Não lançaram nenhum disco nos anos em atividade (final da década de 70, começo da de 80), apenas em 2013 a Teranga Beat lançou em CD e LP gravações ao vivo do grupo em 1981.

Aw Sa Yone Vol.1 traz 8 faixas, todas longas, dominadas pelo improviso e fusão de ritmos locais, como Mbalax e funk/ jazz/ psicodelia ocidental, comum em bandas do oeste africano. Essa mistura fica clara no instrumental, contando com percussão típica de tumbas, sabar, tamas e timbales se encontrando com o som do saxofone, metais, guitarra fuzz e baixo. Os vocais "excêntricos" em língua local também destacam esse trabalho, propiciando momentos viajantes, dançantes e até "espirituais". 

Com certeza, um grande álbum para fãs de afro jazz, funk e rock, 80 minutos de viagem garantida!

Dieuf-Dieul de Thies existed until 1982 and is an important Senegal band, which never had the chance to release any full album yet. These are some of their earliest recordings, never compiled before. Clearly an experienced energy speaks from the playing with lots of improvisational room, played calm and hypnotic and with certain Afro-Cuban influences (like merengue rhythms), with hypnotic guitar repetitions, small and never dominating song leads and harmony vocal/horns responses, complex details in rhythm, sax improvisations (as a jazz element) and here and there some room for electric guitar improvisations somewhere else. The album isn’t so much psych or fusion like other album listed on my pages (still with hypnotic elements, afro-manding, afro-jazz, true African and minor Cuban elements being present in a spontaneous crossover fusion), it has an attractive life energy that should track you into its energy very quickly.
