Comentário: Pérola vinda da Hungria e cujas informações são praticamente inexistentes na internet. Lançaram um único LP e outros dois compactos pelo selo estatal Pepita. Alguns de seus membros seguirem breve carreira solo ou ingressaram em outros grupos.
Neste debut ouvimos 10 curtas faixas que mesclam hard rock simples e country/ blues do sul dos EUA, que vivia seu auge na época (algo pouco usual para bandas 'oficiais' da cortina de ferro). As guitarras guiam o instrumental, acompanhadas por animada seção de metais, percussão e piano, em solos que rivalizam em quase todas as canções. As letras são todas em húngaro e geralmente cantada em coro. Surpreendente e interessante registro para fãs de country, especialmente pela localidade.

Sprint was a band from Hungary and almost no information is available on the internet. They released one rare LP and two singles by the state label Pepita. Some of its members follow a brief solo career or join other groups.
In this self-titled debut we hear 10 short tracks mixing hard rock and country / blues from the Southern bands of the time (something unusual for 'official' bands of the Iron Curtain). The guitars guide the instrumental, accompanied by exciting section of metals, percussion and piano, in solos that rival in almost all the songs. The lyrics are all in Hungarian and usually sung in chorus.

Comentário: Banda formada em Debrecen em 1974 e que lançou alguns discos na época, readaptando obras clássicas para o rock. Alguns outros materiais não foram lançados oficialmente e só viram a luz com o advento da internet, este é o exemplo do disco que posto aqui. Gravado entre 1976 e 77, ele conta com versões do compositor conterrâneo Béla Bartók, mas foi impedido de ser lançado na época por proibição da família do "homenageado". 
Conta com 6 faixas, quase totalmente instrumentais (existem algumas declamações em húngaro ao longo de "Dance Suite") e totalizando cerca de meia hora. O trabalho é todo voltado ao rock progressivo sinfônico, com influências de ELP e Collegium Musicum, sendo dominado pelo impressionante trabalho de Kalman Matolcsy no órgão Hammond, sintetizador e piano, alternando belos e viajantes solos, acompanhados por baixo e bateria dinâmicos e guitarra discreta. 

Um belo e obscuro exemplo de classical crossover e prog sinfônico da antiga Cortina de Ferro, recomendado!

A very interesting rare recording, it is a symphonic prog album mainly driven by a hammond organ, bass guitar and drums, and done in a same kind of way as ELP, it is so much ELP sounding, you'd think it is by ELP, Panta Rhei could by a Hungarian ELP clone, a superb prog album, never seen the light of day, as Bartok's family refused to give PR permission to release this on record back in 1977, though some recordings are recorded between 1976 and 77, also features loads of synths too.

A suberb album consisting of Bartok's works, it is possible to listen to this album, but not avalable on any physical recordings ie, vinyl, tape or cd etc.

A must listen for Emerson, Lake and Palmer fans, you will love this one, if you are an ELP fanatic.

A shame this album is not avalable to buy as a album, one of the rarest albums I ever heard!!

Comentário: Primeiro disco deste quarteto formado em Budapeste, ativo entre 1978 até meados dos anos 80, lançando ainda mais um álbum. Aqui estão presentes 8 curtas faixas de jazz fusion, com influências acentuadas de rock e funk, todas instrumentais e típicas da época, onde ouvimos um trabalho bem desenvolvido e tocado, com destaque para guitarra, piano e sintetizadores, proporcionando um som tranquilo e agradável na maioria do tempo.

Apesar de nenhuma grande novidade ao gênero, ainda recomendo para admiradores de jazz fusion.

Little known Hungarian Jazz-Fusion act,performing at the turn from 70's to 80's.

Like many Jazz-Rock/Fusion European bands of the time like Surgery and Kamaeleon, Saturnus played light and tropical Jazz-Fusion based on smooth piano,synths and electric guitars.Their sound incorporates also elements from Funk and Blues (for example check the bass lines) and the style is quite accesible.Plenty of inspiring soloing,great guitar work,a steady and tight rhythm section along with some powerful breaks here and there compose a good music image.

The album comes recommended to all fans of breezy Jazz-Fusion with a professional attitude and a pleasant atmosphere.

Pérola vinda de Budapeste, capital da Hungria, mais uma formada por um dos mais importantes guitarristas locais dos anos 60 e 70, Béla Radics. O grupo Sakk-Matt (em português, Cheque-Mate) foi formado em 1968 e teve curto período de durante, se desfazendo no começo de 1970 após saída e brigas entre membros, no mesmo ano Radics formou o Tűzkerék. Não lançaram nada na época, apenas em 2003 antigas gravações ao vivo saíram em CD.
No álbum Koncert: 1968, Danubia Műv. Ház ouvimos 12 curtas faixas onde Béla já mostra suas influências no blues, hard e rock psicodélico ocidental da época, com covers de Hendrix e Cream, além de composições próprias. Apesar da guitarra não ser tão impactante quanto em registros futuros, domina barulhenta em praticamente todas as canções, acompanhada por bateria, baixo e vocal (em inglês e húngaro). A qualidade da gravação não é das melhores.
Um bom registro de hard e blues rock da "Cortina de Ferro", interessante para fãs do estilo.

Sakk-Matt (Checkmate) was a band from Budapest, capital of Hungary, formed by one of the most important local guitarists of the 60s and 70s, Béla Radics. The group was formed in 1968 and had short time of activities, disbanding in early 1970 after fights between members; in the same year Radics formed Tűzkerék. They didn't release anything at the time, only in 2003 old live recordings came out on CD.
In the album "Koncert: 1968 Danubia Mov. Haz", we hear 12 short tracks where Béla already shows its influences in Western blues, hard and psychedelic rock of the time, with covers of Hendrix and Cream, as well as his own compositions. Despite the guitar not as impressive as in future records, dominates noisy in almost all the songs accompanied by drums, bass and vocals (in English and Hungarian). The recording quality is not so good. Another good hard / blues rock record from the "Iron Curtain", interesting for fans of the style.

PROGRESSIVE ROCK - MINI - Fruit Pebbles - 2008 (1972)

Mini é uma das bandas de maior duração da Hungria, sendo formada na capital Budapeste no final dos anos 60, pelo vocalista e flautista Ádám Török. Lançaram seu primeiro disco oficial apenas em 1978, pela gravadora estatal Pepita, sendo hoje dona de uma grande discografia. Mesmo após muitas mudanças de formação e período inativo nos anos 90, o grupo continua suas atividades guiados por Ádám e lança novos trabalhos esporadicamente.
Posto aqui o disco Fruit Pebbles, gravado entre 1972 e 73, mas que só foi redescoberto 35 anos mais tarde e lançado em CD e LP, o último com apenas 330 cópias. É composto por 9 faixas, maioria curtas, que trazem um prazeroso e até inovador (considerando o "atraso" de bandas do leste europeu) rock progressivo com toques de jazz-rock, marcado pelo primoroso trabalho na flauta, órgão e bateria (não há presença de guitarra), as letras são todas em húngaro.
Um álbum consistente e muito bem executado, podendo ser uma referência quando falamos de rock progressivo no antigo bloco socialista, recomendado!

Mini, perhaps the longest standing Hungarian progressive rock band, was founded in 1968 and, excluding a period of inactivity in the 1980s through the 1990s, still exists. Their leader, Ádám Török on his own ensures Mini’s high standards, despite the variations in the sound caused by the numerous changes in the line-up.
After the first few years of covering international rhythm and blues and progressive rock hits, Mini gradually developed their own repertoire. By 1972 they were already one of the finest local progressive acts, using the striking combination of the flute, Hammond and bass. It may sound strange, but compared to other artists, they were quite fortunate to have an opportunity to record in a professional environment. Fruit Pebbles compiles all the fine tracks from this early classic period.

Fechando esta série de postagens do leste europeu em alto estilo, com o lendário guitarrista húngaro Radics Béla e seu grupo Tűzkerék. A banda foi formada em 1970 na capital Budapeste, influenciada por grandes nomes do blues rock ocidental, tendo uma primeira fase como quarteto até 1972 e parando as atividades até 1975 (neste meio tempo Radics montou alguns projetos como Taurus e Alligátor). Seguiram a partir dali como power trio, apesar de mudanças constantes na formação e problemas com o governo, mas o ponto final veio em outubro de 1982, com a morte do guitarrista e sem nenhum disco oficial lançado.
Apenas em 2010 uma gravação ao vivo do trio em 1978 foi lançada em LP limitado e quatro anos mais tarde em CD, com 2 faixas a mais, totalizando nove. Ouvimos aqui vários covers de nomes como Hendrix, Yardbirds, Willie Dixon e Led Zeppelin, mostrando as claras influências "blueseiras" dos músicos, executadas em longos jams, com trabalho excepcional e nervoso da guitarra, acompanhada por marcantes linhas de baixo, bateria quebrando tudo e vocais espaçados (em inglês e também húngaro).
Sonzeira do começo ao fim, com sonoridade próxima do começo dos anos 70. Altamente recomendado!

The group Tűzkerék was formed in 1970 in Hungarian capital Budapest, influenced by western blues rock bands, being a quartet until 1972 and stopping activities until 1975 (in the meantime Radics set up some projects like Taurus and Alligátor). After this, they continued as a power trio, despite constant lineup changes and problems with the government. The end came in October 1982 with the death of guitarist and leader Radics Béla, without any official record released.
Only in 2010 a live recording of the trio in 1978 was released in LP and four years later on CD with two tracks more, totaling nine. We hear several covers from artists like Hendrix, Yardbirds, Willie Dixon and Led Zeppelin, showing clear blues influences, performed in long jams with exceptional and heavy guitar work, accompanied by striking bass lines, crazy drums and spaced vocals (in English and also Hungarian). The sound is very close to the early '70s. Highly recommend for hard blues rock fans.

Pérola obscura vinda da Hungria. O grupo Alligátor foi formado na capital Bucapeste em 1973 pelo lendário guitarrista local Béla Radics após sua saída do Taurus, contando com outros importantes nomes do rock local. Infelizmente o projeto durou apenas alguns meses, se findando no mesmo ano e sem deixar nenhum lançamento oficial.
Posto aqui 4 gravações da banda em 1973, que saíram em cassete e estão presentes em algumas recentes compilações. O som é garageiro, cru e "empoeirado", com qualidade de gravação ruim, mas mesmo assim trazendo interessantes jams liderados pela guitarra feroz de Radics, com suas influências de hard e blues rock, acompanhada por órgão, baixo, bateria e raros momentos de sax. As letras são todas em húngaro; apesar de poucos ou quase nenhum momento ruim, o destaque fica para "Napfényes napok", blues matador de quase 9 minutos.
Ótima pedida para fãs de hard blues rock obscuro.

Obscure pearl coming from Hungary. The group Alligátor was formed in the capital Bucharest in 1973 by legendary guitarist Béla Radics after leaving Taurus, with other important names of local rock. Unfortunately the project lasted only a few months, ending in the same year and without leaving any official release.
Post here 4 recordings of the band in 1973, which came out on cassette and are present in some recent complations. The sound is raw, garage and "dusty", with poor recording quality, but still bringing interesting jams led by fierce Radics' guitar, with its influences of hard and blues rock, accompanied by organ, bass, drums and rare moments of sax. The lyrics are all in Hungarian; although few or no bad moments, the highlight is "Napfényes Napok", killer blues rock of almost 9 minutes.

Pérola formada em 1972 na capital húngara Budapeste. O Taurus (também conhecida como Taurus Ex-T: 25-75-82) é considerado um dos primeiros supergrupos do país, contando com importantes nomes do rock local, ex-membros de Neonton, Metro, Pannónia e Atlantis. Apesar da curta duração, o projeto resultou em dois compactos em 72 e 73, mesmo ano do encerramento.
Posto aqui o debut com as músicas "Zöld csillag" e "Szólíts meg vándor", ambas curtas e trazendo um fulminante "hardão" setentista, com pegadas de psicodélico e blues. Passagens arrasadoras de guitarra e órgão são destaque, contando ainda com vocal potente e letras na língua local. Com certeza tinham grande potencial, mas infelizmente não lançaram um álbum inteiro. Recomendado!

Great guitar and organ passages are highlighted and there is also powerful vocals and lyrics in the local language. Certainly had great potential, but unfortunately not released an entire album. Recommended!

HARD ROCK - SKORPIÓ - Kelj fel! - 1977

Mais uma pérola vinda da Hungria, o grupo Skorpió surgiu na capital Budapeste em 1973 por Károly Frenreisz, ex-membro do Locomotiv GT. Tiveram papel importante na cena roqueira local na metade dos anos 70, com os dois primeiros álbuns principalmente. Existiram até meados dos anos 80, totalizando 8 LPs lançados e várias outras compilações e ao vivos em recentes reuniões.
Posto aqui o terceiro trabalho da banda, Kelj fel! ("Acorde!") de 1977. É dividido em 9 curtas faixas baseadas em hard rock claramente influenciado por grandes nomes da época, principalmente Deep Purple e Uriah Heep, mas contando com influências de blues, funk e várias baladas. Nada de novo, mas competente trabalho instrumental com solos poderosos de órgão, guitarra e raras passagens de sax e sintetizadores, originando momentos progressivos. As letras são todas em húngaro, com destaque para "Döntsd el végre már", "Piactér", "Szép vasárnap hajnalán" e "Késő".
Ótima pérola para fãs de hard rock setentista com pitadas de prog.

The group Skorpió was formed in Hungary, in the capital Budapest in 1973 by Károly Frenreisz, former member of Locomotiv GT. Played an important role in the local rock scene in the mid-70s, with the first two albums mostly. Existed until the mid-80s, totaling 8 released LPs and several compilations and live at recent meetings.
Post here the third work of the band, Kelj gall!, of 1977. It is divided into nine short hard rock-based tracks clearly influenced by big names of the time, but relying on blues influences, funk and several ballads. Nothing new, but competent instrumental work with powerful solos of organ, guitar (remembering Deep Purple and Uriah Heep) and rare passages of sax and synth, giving progressive moments. The lyrics are all in Hungarian, especially "Döntsd el Vegre már", "Piactér", "Szép vasárnap hajnalán" and "Keso". Recommended for fans of 70s hard rock.

Mais um raro compacto do leste europeu, o grupo Kex foi formado em 1968 na capital húngara Budapeste e foi um dos mais importantes nomes do rock local na época, tendo grande reconhecimento ainda hoje no país. Apesar disto, na época lançaram apenas esse single até se desfazerem em 1971, com várias mudanças na formação. Duas compilações saíram nos últimos anos com antigas gravações da banda.
Posto aqui o debut dos caras, de 1970, trazendo as canções "Elszállt Egy Hajó A Szélben" e "Család", ambas na casa dos 3 minutos e com letras na língua local. O destaque fica com a primeira faixa, misturando influências psicodélicas e progressivas, com pegada pesada de guitarra, piano, órgão e flauta. O lado B traz uma bonita e calma balada, com raros momentos de violino e piano. Pérola recomendada para fãs de hard prog e psych.

The group Kex was formed in 1968 in the Hungarian capital Budapest and was one of the most important local rock names at the time, having great recognition in the country.
