No instrumental, destaque para passagens no teclado, guitarra fuzz, percussão e até flauta. Recomendado para fãs de rock psicodélico latino-americano.

Musician born in Lima in 1951, who participated in some local groups, such as Traffic Sound and Los Nuevos Shain's, until being invited by the label IEMPSA to record singles and his only solo LP. Soon after, he abandoned his musical career to pursue a religious life.
The debut is composed of 10 short tracks that are not very different from sounds made in the country in the late 60's, mixing psychedelia, latin rhythms (especially cumbia), usually dominated by melodic arrangements and lyrics, all in Spanish but not so generics. In the instrumental, highlight for passages in the keyboard, fuzz guitar, percussion and even flute.

FOLK/ PROG ROCK - BREEZE - Same - 1976

Pérola obscura vinda do Peru, formada em meados dos anos 70 por jovens da capital Lima. A banda Breeze foi a primeira da cantora Roxana Valdivieso, logo após a mesma terminar o Colégio, e que viria a ter uma carreira solo bem sucedida anos mais tarde. Lançaram um único álbum em 1976 pela Odeón, porém se trata de um item quase impossível de se encontrar, mesmo entre especialistas do rock peruano.
O homônimo conta com 9 curtas faixas, todas covers de grupos ou artistas norte-americanos ou britânicos, como Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull, Paul McCartney e Stephen Stills. Ouvimos uma mescla entre rock, pop/ beat e até prog, porém tocado de forma tranquila e até "ingênua", onde se destacam os belos vocais de Roxana (sendo todas as letras em inglês) e também passagens de flauta e piano.
Longe de ser uma obra fundamental, porém interessante para fãs de vocais femininos e folk com pitadas de prog.

Obscure gem coming from Peru, formed in the mid-70s by young people from the capital Lima. The band Breeze was the first of the singer Roxana Valdivieso, that would have a successful solo career years later. They released one album in 1976 by Odeón, but it is an almost impossible to find item.
The self-titled has 9 short tracks, all covers of American or British groups/ artists such as Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull, Paul McCartney and Stephen Stills. We hear a mix between rock, pop / beat and even prog, but played smoothly, which beautiful vocals of Roxana (with all lyrics in English) and also flute and piano passages are highlights. Far from being an essential work, but interesting for female vocals and folk/ prog fans.

Pérola vinda do Peru, formada provavelmente na capital Lima no começo dos anos 70. Pouco se sabe sobre a banda Cacique, eles lançaram apenas este compacto em 1973 e outras duas músicas (sendo uma versão "ao vivo" de Playin') numa compilação da época, produzida por Geraldo Manuel. No lado A a faixa "Cacique" é instrumental e merece destaque, bastante vibrante e com fortes influências psicodélicas e de garagem inseridas em ritmos locais como Cumbia, onde ouvimos guitarra ácida, órgão elétrico e percussão. Já "Playin'" é um pouco mais comercial e cantada em inglês, novamente com boa pegada no teclado e percussão.

Coming from Peru, the group Cacique was formed probably in the capital Lima during the early 70's. Little is known about the band, they only released this single in 1973 and others two songs (one "live" version of Playin') in a compilation of time, produced by Geraldo Manuel. In the A-side, "Cacique" is the highlight, all instrumental and with vibrant and strong psychedelic and garage influences inserted in local rhythms like Cumbia, where we hear acidic guitar, electric organ and percussion. "Playin '" is a bit more commercial and sung in English, again with good work of keyboard and percussion.

PROG/ JAM ROCK - RED AMBER - Unofficial Compilation - 1974/75

Pérola formada em Lima, capital do Peru, por volta de 1974. O grupo Red Amber teve período de atividade bastante curto, acabando no ano seguinte, mesmo assim esse quarteto de jovens locais deixaram sua marca no rock local por serem considerados pioneiros na mescla de elementos do rock progressivo no seu som.
Oficialmente lançaram apenas um compacto em 75, com as músicas "You'll Come To Me" e "The Coke Jam". As outras 3 faixas que posto aqui hoje foram redescobertas graças a internet, gravadas ao vivo ou em ensaios, sendo a qualidade de gravação infelizmente muito ruim, mas com alguns jams instrumentais interessantes, como em "Frog Leap" e "Poor World", de 11 minutos, onde ouvimos boas passagens de guitarra, teclado. As letras em inglês, mas o vocal não é dos melhores. Recomendado para fãs de prog e jam rock.

Formed in Lima, capital of Peru, around 1974, the Red Amber group had short life, ending in the following year, yet this quartet of local youths left their mark in the local rock because they are considered pioneers in the mix of progressive rock elements in their sound.
Officially launched just a single in 1975, with the songs "You'll Come To Me" and "The Coke Jam". The other three tracks that I post here today were rediscovered thanks to internet, recorded live or in rehearsals, the recording quality is unfortunately too bad, but with some interesting instrumental jams, as in "Frog Leap" and "Poor World" of 11 minutes, where we hear good guitar and keyboard passages. The lyrics are in English, but the vocals are not the best.

Jean Paul "El Troglodita" (nascido Enrique Tellería, em 1945) foi um cantor originário de Callao, no Peru. Alcançou sucesso local no final dos anos 60 e começo dos 70, sendo um dos mais lembrados da "época de ouro" do rock peruano, lançando dois álbuns e vários compactos. Infelizmente, com a ditadura e problemas relacionados ao álcool, "El Troglodita" se afastou da música até sua morte em 2004, no completo abandono.
Posto aqui seu último disco, Vudú, de 1973, com presença da ótima banda Laghonia. Traz 9 faixas curtas que mostram um fase mais psicodélica e madura do cantor, apesar de manter em alguns momentos o som de garagem e baladas. O instrumental é simples, mas direto, com guitarras fuzz barulhentas, bateria, baixo e raros metais e percussão, acompanhando o vocal feroz, com letras em inglês e espanhol. Destaque para "Vudú", "Peace and Love" e "Te Amo Más".

An amazing heavy psychedelic rock album from one of the best artists from Perú. Jean Paul "El Troglodita" is the nick name of a real man called Enrique Tellería. He start recording at DisPeru (same label as Saicos) a rock n' roll - ballad singer, and make one LP called "Tengo un mustang", plus few singles... then he recorded one geat single with a hard rock on Iempsa (this tracks talks about that he like to smoke, make love and when he smoke he is very happy.... he goes to the jail when the song starts to play on the radio stations). Then He was kicked form that label and goes to MAG to record his bet stuff.....am album called "Vudú" and 2 singles.

On this album, his backline is the amazing band Laghonia, making this album a must for heavy psychedelic collectors....the openning track is a wild psychedelic track with a progressive middle part...

Pérola formada em Lima, no Peru, em 1969 por Bo Ichikawa e Alex Nathanson. O Telegraph Avenue lançou dois discos, o primeiro em 1971, considerado um dos mais importantes discos de rock do país na época. Após uma pausa nos anos seguintes o grupo volta para gravar um derradeiro LP em 75, mas logo se desfazem. Recentemente ocorreram algumas reuniões dos membros.
O debut homônimo traz 8 curtas faixas que misturam rock psicodélico típico do final dos anos 60 com influências diversas, desde ritmos latinos, folk, soul até hard e blues rock. No instrumental, destaque para guitarra pesada e fuzz com bons solos, revezando com momentos acústicos de percussão, violão e piano. As letras são todas em inglês. Para as faixas, destaque em "Something Going", "Sungaligali" e "Let me Start".

Telegraph Avenue was a group formed in Lima, Peru, in 1969 by Bo Ichikawa and Alex Nathanson. Released two LPs, the first in 1971, considered one of the most important rock albums of the country at the time. After a break in the following years the band recorded another and last disc in 1975, but soon fall apart. 
The self-titled debut brings eight short tracks that mix typical psychedelic rock of the late 60's with diverse influences, from Latin rhythms, folk, soul to blues and hard rock. In instrumental, especially heavy guitar fuzz and with good solos, alternating with acoustic moments with percussion, acoustic guitar and piano. The lyrics are all in English. For the tracks featured in "Something Going", "Sungaligali" and "Let Me Start". Although a bit generic, recommended gem for fans of South American psychedelic rock.

O grupo El Opio lançou 4 compactos entre 1969 e 71 pelo selo Odión, conseguiram sucesso entre os grupos de rock locais com as canções "Piratas en el Titicaca" e "Una bruja en el Cuzco", mas logo se desfizeram. Posto aqui uma compilação com as oito músicas lançadas pelo quinteto, intitulado simplesmente Singles.

Todas as faixas trazem típico rock psicodélico do final dos anos 60, mas também com influências da música andina/latina e até um pouco de funk (metais e percussão). Guitarras fuzz barulhentas, letras em espanhol e composições vigorosas são destaque, o ponto fraco é a qualidade do som, ruim em alguns momentos. Destaque para "Kashanga", "Pusher" e "Una bruja en el Cuzco".    

Pérola recomendada para fãs de rock latino psicodélico dos anos 60.

Pearl formed in Lima, Peru, in the late '60s. The group El Opio released four singles between 1969 and 71 by Odion, achieved success among local rock groups. Post here a compilation with eight songs released by the quintet, simply titled Singles. All tracks bring typical psychedelic rock of the late '60s, but also influences the Andean / Latin music and even a little funk (brass and percussion). Noisy fuzz guitars, Spanish lyrics and vigorous compositions are highlighted, the weak point is the sound quality, bad at times. Highlight for "Kashanga", "Pusher" and "Una bruja en el Cuzco". Recommended for fans of psychedelic Latin rock '60s.

HEAVY PSYCH - THE MAD'S - Molesto - 2013 (1967-1971)

Pérola vinda do Peru, formada na capital Lima em 1965. Em 1969, enquanto tocavam em um clube no Peru, foram vistos por Mick Jagger e Keith Richards, que passavam férias na América do Sul. Os dois gostaram do som do The Mad's (ou Los Mad's) e disseram para eles irem até a Inglaterra gravar algumas músicas e tocar ao vivo, e assim eles fizeram, gravando 2 faixas no estúdio dos Stones em 1971! Infelizmente após várias brigas internas e saída de alguns membros, o grupo se desfez, lançando só um compacto. Apenas em 2013, 42 anos depois, o selo peruano Repsychled lançou um CD com 8 faixas gravadas na Inglaterra e no Peru e mais 2 bônus, do compacto de 1966.
O álbum Molesto traz 10 faixas de rock psicodélico com letras em inglês, em alguns momentos próximo ao som "paz e amor" dos anos 60 e outros bem mais pesados, velozes e pirados como no longo jam "Fly Away", "If you Feel" e "Feels Likes Love", com guitarra fuzz e bateria quebrando tudo (heavy psych). Além das músicas acima, destaque para "Tumor Bossa", numa linha Santana e "Rock & Roll Woman", ambas com mais de 8 minutos.
No geral, ótimo som, pérola recomendada para fãs de hard rock psicodélico.

The Mad's (or Los Mad's) was a pearl from Peru, formed in 1965 in the capital Lima. They recorded 2 tracks in the studio of the Stones in 1971 and many others in Peru. Tthe group disbanded, releasing only a single. Only in 2013, 42 years later, the Peruvian label Repsychled released a CD with 8 tracks recorded in England and Peru, plus 2 bonus from the single.
The album "Molesto" features 10 tracks of psychedelic rock with lyrics in English, some very close to the '60s sound and other really hard, fast and killer, like "Fly Away", "If you Feel " and "Feels Likes Love", with fuzz guitar and heavy drums. Recommended for fans of heavy psych.

FUNK/LATIN ROCK - BLACK SUGAR - Same - 1971

Outra pérola peruana, o Black Sugar foi um grupo formado em 1969 na capital Lima com o nome original de Far Fen, com o qual lançaram alguns compactos no mesmo ano. Já em 1970 a banda mudou o nome para Black Sugar, com os mesmos músicos, e assim lançaram dois LPs, em 1971 e 74, alcançando algum sucesso no país de origem. Após mudanças algumas importantes mudanças na formação a banda se desfez em 1978; em 2011 alguns membros originais retornaram e fizeram shows pelo Peru comemorando os 40 anos do primeiro disco.
O som dos caras nesse homônimo de 1971 traz uma interessante mistura de jazz funk com ritmos latinos e também uma certa influencia de rock, com domínio de saxofone e trompete, contando ainda com poderosas linhas de baixo e também guitarra e teclado. Algumas leves baladas como "When I Needed Someone", "When You'r Walking" e "This Time" estão presentes. As letras são na maioria em inglês, apenas "Viajecito" é cantada em espanhol.
Uma boa pérola, altamente recomendada para quem curte jazz funk e rock latino.

Black Sugar was a Peruvian group formed in 1969 in the capital Lima to the original name of Far Fen. In 1970 the band changed its name to Black Sugar, with the same musicians, and so released two LPs, in 1971 and 74. After some major changes lineup changes the band disbanded in 1978.
The sound of the guys in this self titled brings an interesting mix of jazz funk with Latin rhythms and also some influences from rock, mastering the saxophone and trumpet, still relying on powerful bass lines and also guitar and keyboard. Some light ballads like "When I Needed Someone", "When You'r Walking" and " This Time" are present. The lyrics are mostly in English, only " Viajecito" is sung in Spanish.
A good pearl, highly recommended for those who enjoy jazz funk and Latin rock.

Pérola totalmente desconhecida vinda do Peru, o Smog foi um grupo de curtíssima duração, formado em 1971 pelo baixista Ernesto Samamé, membro de outras bandas locais como Laghonia e We All Together. A banda lançou apenas um compacto, com as ótimas músicas Time for the Blues e Wiched Man, trazendo um poderoso rock psicodélico, contando com pesados riffs e solos de guitarra e mescla de blues no lado A. Gravação meio amadora e clima "garageiro" também marcam o som dos caras, as letras são em inglês.

Tarkus foi uma pérola vinda do Peru. Formada na capital Lima em 1972, a banda tinha como integrantes peruanos o vocalista e guitarrista Alex Nathanson e baterista Walo Carillo, ambos ex-Telegraph Avenue e para completar os argentinos Guillermo Van Lacke, no baixo e Dario Gianella, guitarra. O grupo teve uma carreira "meteórica", durando menos de 1 ano, mesmo assim um álbum foi lançado em 72. Em 2007 o integrante Walo Carrillo e o filho de Guillermo Van Lacke, Christian Van Lacke se reuniram para alguns shows no país, a partir daí surgiu o projeto Tlön, que ainda está na ativa, seguindo a mesma linha de som do Tarkus. O grupo foi também um dos pioneiros do rock pesado e dos primórdios do heavy metal na América Latina.
O homônimo de 1972 traz um hard rock muito competente, consistente e original para a época, contando ainda com algumas influencias de acid rock do fim dos anos 60. As letras são todas em espanhol, com 8 faixas curtas, mas com guitarras pesadas, ótimos riffs, bateria "nervosa" e vocal agressivo. Percebe-se claramente influências de Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath e Pappo Blues. Som cru e pesado, caracterizam bem essa joia do rock sul americano.
Pérola altamente recomendada para fãs do "hardão setentista".

Tarkus was a pearl coming from Peru. Formed in the capital Lima in 1972, the band had as members Peruvian vocalist and guitarist Alex Nathanson and Walo Carillo drummer , both ex-former Telegraph Avenue and to complete the Argentines Guillermo Van Lacke, on bass Dario Gianella, guitar . The group had a short career , lasting less than one year , even so an album was released in 72 . In 2007 the member Walo Carrillo and son of Guillermo Van Lacke , Christian Van Lacke gathered for some shows in the country , from there came the project Tlön , which is still active , following the same line of sound Tarkus . The group was also a pioneer of hard rock and early heavy metal in Latin America .
The eponymous of 1972 brings a hard rock very competent, consistent and unique for the time and we also have some influences of acid rock of the late '60s . The lyrics are all in Spanish , with 8 short tracks, but with heavy guitars, great riffs, "nervous" drums and aggressive vocals . It is clearly influenced by Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Pappo Blues . Sound is raw and heavy, well characterize this jewel of South American rock .

HARD ROCK - PAX - May God and Your Will Land You and Your Soul Miles Away - 1970

Pérola formada na capital peruana Lima em 1969 pelo guitarrista Pico Ego Aguirre e uma das bandas pioneiras do hard rock aqui na América do sul. O grupo lançou apenas um álbum em 1970 e acabou em 1974.
O som da banda trazia um hard rock típico da época e muito influenciado por grupos de hard/psicodélico americanos e britânicos, tanto que no relançamento do álbum em 2011 com faixas bônus, todas são covers (Deep Purple, Brainbox, Spirit, etc.), destaque para a guitarra que tem bons riffs. As letras são todos em inglês.
Apesar de não ser muito original, é uma boa pérola, recomendado!

The band's sound featured a hard rock typical of the era and very influenced by American and British groups of hard / psychedelic rock.
