Comentário: Pérola vinda da Cidade do Cabo, ativa no princípio dos anos 70 e cujas informações conhecidas são apenas as da contra-capa deste LP que posto aqui. Único lançado pela banda (além de dois singles), pelo pequeno selo 'Little Giant' e que infelizmente não obteve sucesso, esta é hoje uma obra quase mítica do rock sul-africano.
Composto por 12 curtas faixas, entre composições próprias e covers de clássicos do R&B norte-americanos, este disco mescla ainda rock clássico e funk/ soul. É clara a influência de bandas dos anos 60, fazendo que soe 'ultrapassado' e comercial demais em certos momentos, também pelas composições e arranjos simples (o instrumental possui bateria, baixo e guitarra, tendo alguns bons momentos da última, além de flauta em 'Here I Come'). A produção também não é das melhores.
Um exemplo daqueles registros que valem mais pela raridade do que qualidade, apesar de alguns momentos interessantes.


The Triangle was a band from Cape Town, active in the early 70's and the only known information  is in the back cover of this LP. They released only one album (in addition to two singles), by the small label 'Little Giant' and unfortunately didn't succeed, being now an almost mythical copy of South African rock.
Composed of 12 short tracks, between own compositions and covers of  American R&B classics, this album mixes classic rock and funk / soul. The influence of bands from the 60s is clear, making it sound dated and too commercial at certain times, also for the simple compositions and arrangements, with a lack of creativity. Record production is also not the best.
An example of those records that are worth more for rarity than quality, despite some interesting moments.

Comentário: Pérola formada no início da década de 70 para acompanhar o músico Magnús Kjartansson em seu debut e que acabou lançando dois álbuns sob nome da banda. Pouco mais é conhecido sobre eles e seus LPs são grandes raridades do rock islandês.

Divididas em 10 curtas faixas, este disco pouco difere do anterior lançado sob o nome de Maggi (e já postado no blog), misturando rock clássico, funk, folk e baladas, com clara tentativa comercial, evidenciado pelas letras em inglês. O destaque fica para passagens de guitarra, sintetizadores, saxofone e percussão, fechando com uma faixa instrumental. Daqueles álbuns que valem mais pela raridade do que qualidade, mas ainda interessante para curiosos.

Formed in the early 70's to accompany the musician Magnús Kjartansson in his debut, this band released two albums under their own name. Little else is known about them and their LPs are great rarities of Icelandic rock, never reissued.
Divided into 10 short tracks, this album differs slightly from the previous one released under the name of Maggi (and already posted on the blog), mixing classic rock, funk, folk and ballads, with a clear commercial attempt, evidenced by the English lyrics. The highlight are for passages of guitar, synthesizers, saxophone and percussion, and there is even an instrumental track.

Comentário: Esta foi uma banda americana cujas informações são totalmente desconhecidas, lançaram um único disco aparentemente em 1974 e sumiram do mapa, sendo o nome dos músicos é apenas conhecido por conta da capa. Qualquer história ou notícia sobre os caras é bem-vinda.
Este LP é composto de boas versões de grandes nomes da época, como Beatles, Elton John e Gordon Lightfoot. Apesar de certa tentativa comercial, ainda sim são covers bem executados na linha de rock clássico tradicional, ora melódico ora agitado, tendo presença de guitarra, baixo e bateria, acompanhando o ótimo vocal. Destaque para as 3 faixas mais longas. Nada de essencial, mas um registro que vale principalmente pela raridade.

This was an American band whose information is totally unknown, they released one album apparently in 1974 and disappeared of the map, being the name of the musicians only known because of the cover. Any story or news about the guys is welcome.
This LP is composed of good versions of big names of the time, like Beatles, Elton John and Gordon Lightfoot. Despite a certain commercial attempt, still the covers are well performed in the traditional classic rock line, with presence of guitar, bass and drums, accompanying the great vocal. Highlight for the 3 longest tracks. Nothing essential, but a record that is worth mostly for the rarity.

Comentário: Obscuridade máxima formada em Leningrado, na antiga URSS e atual São Petersburgo, por ex-músicos de bandas locais já postadas aqui, como Sankt Peterburg (foto acima) e Mifi. Aparentemente esta é a única apresentação ao vivo do grupo de vida curta, cujas gravações foram milagrosamente salvas e hoje rodam a internet, porém sem nenhum lançamento oficial. 

São 5 faixas de composição própria, que trazem um rock clássico beirando o hard e garagem, próximos aos sons das citadas acima. As músicas são cantadas em russo e o instrumental é básico, com guitarra liderando, acompanhada por baixo, bateria e teclado. A qualidade da gravação é novamente um ponto negativo.

Interessante registro para fãs do rock na antiga cortina de ferro.

Top obscurity from USSR, formed in Leningrad and now St. Petersburg, by former musicians from local bands already posted here, such as Sankt Peterburg (photo above) and Mifi. Apparently this was the only live performance of the short-lived group whose recordings were miraculously saved and today run the internet, but with no official release.
There are 5 tracks of own composition, that bring a classic rock with influences of the hard and garage, next to the sounds of the mentioned above. The songs are sung in Russian and the instrumental is basic, with guitar leading, accompanied by bass, drums and keyboard. The quality of the recording is again a negative point.

Comentário: Grupo vindo de Castelo Branco e é hoje uma das maiores raridades vindas de Portugal, com pouquíssimas cópias e que nunca chegaram a ser distribuída comercialmente. O disco é dividido em 10 curtas faixas bastante influenciadas pelo som da década anterior, entre doses de folk, psicodelia e country, porém ficando próximo do rock comum e acústico na maioria das canções. Destaque para as passagens de gaita-de-boca e guitarra, acompanhando os vocais em português, trazendo um ar nostálgico e melancólico nas letras.
Talvez um daqueles registros que valem mais pela raridade do que qualidade, mas mesmo assim possui seus bons momentos. 

Group from Castelo Branco and is nowadays one of the biggest rarities coming from Portugal, with very few copies and never commercially distributed. The album is divided into 10 short tracks heavily influenced by the sound of the previous decade, between folk, psychedelia and country, but getting close to common and acoustic rock in most songs. Highlight for the passages of harmonica and guitar (electric and acoustic), accompanying the vocals in Portuguese, bringing a nostalgic and calm  in the lyrics.
Perhaps one of those records that are worth more for rarity than quality, but still have its good moments.

Comentário: Grupo formado em Birmingham e que lançou dois raros LPs, se desfazendo provavelmente pouco tempo depois. Seu baterista Alan Moore integrou o Judas Priest posteriormente. Posto aqui o derradeiro álbum, Chuffer, dividido em 11 curtas faixas que trazem um rock simples, contendo leves doses de country e até prog, porém por vezes com tentativa comercial que acaba sendo ponto negativo. O som é marcado por vários coros, acompanhados por bons momentos da guitarra e também piano.

Apesar de inconsistente, é um disco que ainda tem seus méritos e merece audição.

Group formed in Birmingham and that released two rare LPs, probably disbanding soon after. The drummer Alan Moore joined Judas Priest years later. I post here the last album, Chuffer, divided into 11 short tracks that bring a simple rock, containing slight doses of country and even prog, but sometimes with commercial attempt that ends up being a negative point. The sound is marked by several choirs, accompanied by good guitar and piano moments.

O instrumental é destaque, mesclando partes acústicas e elétricas, porém sem tanta ambição em certos momentos.  

Duo from the Netherlands, that released only this album by Philips, with a recent CD edition and no further information. The self-titled album is composed of 10 short tracks (except for the cover of "Season Of The Witch"), bringing a fairly average rock sound at the time, influenced by the North American scene, with doses of psychedelia, country and even prog (with some synth passages). The instrumental is highlight, mixing acoustic and electric parts, but without so much ambition at certain times.

Comentário: Grupo vindo de Toronto, ativo na primeira metade dos anos 70 e que ganhou certa popularidade local, lançando cinco LPs e vários singles, inclusive acompanhando Pierre Trudeau em sua campanha política em 1972. Neste segundo disco, dividido em 14 curtas faixas, ouvimos uma boa mescla de boogie, blues e country rock, típico da época. A guitarra guia o instrumental, com riffs e solos marcantes, acompanhada por piano, metais, gaita e percussão. Destaque para "Too True Mama", "Oh What A Feeling",  "Murder In The First Degree" e "Mountain Fire", apesar de ser uma obra consistente.

Formed in 1969 in the city of Christchurch, this band had some lineup changes until launch their only two albums in 1971 and 72, as well as some singles and disappear shortly after. Post here their last record, bringing 10 short tracks of soft rock, quite melodic and with some influences of folk and country, good passages of organ, guitar and flute are highlights. Few news for style, but still interesting to folk and pop rock fans.

Come On Roy and Jamin'With Roy are both written by Joey Welz... this is a real rock and roll masterpiece by the true legends of Rock and Roll.... PSYCHEDELIC ROCK - ZOCALO - Que Te Aproveche - 1971

Pérola formada em Montevidéu, capital do Uruguai no final dos anos 60. O grupo Zocalo durou pouco tempo, gravando apenas um raro álbum em 1971 em Buenos Aires. Por conta da produção do LP, aconteceram brigas e saída de membros, então a banda mudou o nome para Corpus e se desfez pouco tempo depois.
Que Te Aproveche traz 12 curtas faixas que passeiam pelo rock psicodélico, latino e algumas baladas soft, lembrando alguns nomes locais da época, como Limonada. O instrumental é simples e competente, guiado pela guitarra (em alguns momentos distorcida), além de teclado e boas linhas de baixo, acompanhados pelo vocal em espanhol e recheado de coros. Quanto as faixas, destaque para "No, No Preguntes", "Tomala o Dejala" e "Que Te Aproveche". Boa surpresa para fãs de psicodelia latina-americana.

Zocalo was a band formed in Montevideo, Uruguay's capital at the end of the 60s. They recorded only a rare album in 1971 in Buenos Aires, due to the production of the LP, there were fights and some members left, so the group changed the name to Corpus and disbanded shortly after.
"Que Te Aproveche" brings 12 short tracks between psychedelic, latin rock and some ballads, remembering local names of the time, like Limonada. The instrumental is simple and competent, guided by the guitar, as well as keyboard and good bass lines, accompanied by vocal in Spanish and with choirs. As for the tracks, best are "No, No preguntes", "Tomala and Dejala" and "Que Te Aproveche". Nice surprise for Latin American psychedelia fans.

Pérola formada em Buenos Aires, capital da Argentina, no começo dos anos 70, apesar de alguns ainda acreditarem se tratar de um grupo mexicano. A banda Freedom lançou apenas um álbum em 1971 e se desfez pouco tempo depois, caindo na obscuridade.
Libertad, Nena é composto por 13 curtas faixas que trazem um rock clássico direto, com doses de soul e fortes influências de grupos americanos e britânicos da época, prova disto são todas as letras em inglês e covers como "Stuff You Got Watch", "C.C. Rider" e "Molina". O instrumental é simples e liderado pela guitarra, acompanhada por piano e teclado em vários momentos, além de bateria/ baixo.
Nada de extraordinário, porém uma interessante pedida para fãs de rock sul-americano dos anos 70.

A banda teria sido formada em meados dos anos 70 a partir de ex-membros do Delta Blues Band, que decidiram continuar a partir das gravações do que seria o segundo disco do grupo, antes de se desfazerem. Infelizmente o projeto durou pouco por conta de mudanças na formação e pouca divulgação do álbum.
O homônimo de 1975 (ano não preciso, pois há datas divergentes na internet) é composto por 8 faixas curtas e apresentando um bom rock clássico, comum a época, com doses acentuadas de blues, country e até jazz. O instrumental é competente, guiado pelas guitarras, acompanhado em momentos pelo saxofone e piano, além de todas as letras em dinamarquês.
Nada de extraordinário, porém interessante para fãs do estilo.

Nothing extraordinary, but interesting for fans of the style.

HARD/ CLASSIC ROCK - Rossiyane (Россияне) - Россияне на плясах - 1977

Pérola vinda da cena underground de Leningrado (atual São Petersburgo), na Rússia (na época URSS). O grupo Rossiyane (em russo Россияне, traduzido simplesmente como "Russo") foi formado por jovens locais entre 1968 e 69 e nunca chegaram a lançar um disco oficial pela Melodiya, gravadora estatal. Apesar disso, algumas gravações da banda até os anos 80, quando se separaram, foram recuperadas por sites e cópias não oficias.
Posto aqui um desses registros, por volta de 1977 ou 78, intitulado "Россияне на плясах". É composto por 15 faixas, maioria curtas e aparentemente ao vivo, onde a banda toca um rock'n'roll clássico e similar a bandas ocidentais do início da década, passeando por influências de hard, blues e algumas baladas. O instrumental é simples e composto por riffs marcantes de guitarra, além de piano, violão e até violino, as letras são todas em russo. O principal ponto ruim é a péssima qualidade da gravação.
Talvez esse registro valha mais por sua raridade do que qualidade, mas ainda recomendo para fãs de rock soviético.

Rare gem coming from the underground scene of Leningrad (currently St. Petersburg), Russia (USSR). The group Rossiyane (Россияне, translated simply as "Russian") was formed by local young people between 1968 or 69 and never released an official album for Melodiya, state label. Nevertheless, some band's recordings until the 80s, when they disbanded, were recovered by sites and unofficial copies.
Post here one of these records, around 1977 or 78, entitled "Россияне на плясах". It consists of 15 tracks, most short and seemingly live, where the band plays a classic rock'n'roll similar to western bands of the early 70s, walking through hard, blues and some ballads. The instrumental is simple and consists of great guitar riffs, as well as piano, acoustic guitar and violin, being all the lyrics in Russian. The low point is the poor quality of the recording. Perhaps this record is worth more for its rarity than quality, but still recommend to Soviet rock fans.

Gary Eckstein (גרי אקשטיין) é um cantor, músico e compositor nascido em 1948 em Israel. Começou sua carreira na música em pequenos grupos locais ainda nos anos 60, mas lançou seu primeiro disco solo apenas em 1977, sendo seguido por breve período de sucesso local no início da década seguinte. Eckstein possui uma longa discografia, onde "passeou" por diversos estilos, ele ainda segue na ativa, mesmo que sem grande intensidade.
Posto este homônimo que parece ser seu segundo álbum, lançado originalmente em 1979. É composto por 13 faixas predominantemente curtas, tendo como estilo primário o blues e rock clássico tradicional, soando como se fosse de alguns anos antes. O instrumental é muito competente, quase levando a esquecer as letras incompreensíveis em hebraico, onde Gary mostra todo seu talento na guitarra, muitas vezes acompanhada pelo violão e gaita, ainda com bons teclados, que ficam no "background" e aparecem em alguns momentos para solo, dando certas doses de prog ao disco.
Uma das melhores pérolas vindas de Israel na época, sólida e muito bem executada. Altamente recomendado!

Gary Eckstein (גרי אקשטיין) is a singer, musician and composer born in 1948 in Israel. He began his career in music in small local groups in the 60s, but released his first solo album only in 1977, followed by some local success period at the beginning of the next decade. Eckstein has a long discography, he is still active, but without the same intensity.
The self-titled seems to be his second album, originally released in 1979. It consists of 13, predominantly short, tracks, with primary blues and classic rock style, sounding like it was recorded a few years before. The instrumental is very competent, almost forgetting me about the lyrics in Hebrew, where Gary shows all his talent on the guitar, often accompanied by acoustic guitar and harmonica, even with good keyboards, which are in the "background" and appear at times to a solo, giving certain doses prog. One of the best Israeli gems at the time, solid and very well executed. Highly recommended!

ROCK - SERPENTINE - In The Grass - 1970

Pérola formada em Hilversum na segunda metade dos anos 60. O grupo Serpentine lançou dois compactos em sua primeira fase, como sexteto, que durou até 1969. Após várias mudanças de formação, permaneceram os músicos Frank van Tijin e Peter van der Sande, gravando um único e raro disco em 1970. Pouco tempo depois mudaram o nome para Apartment 1, lançando outro LP no mesmo ano.
In the Grass é dividido em 12 curtas faixas, totalizando menos de 30 minutos. O álbum começa promissor com "Tell Me Some More" (única totalmente instrumental) e "The Doctor Said", seguindo rock clássico com pegada prog e hard, mas acaba se perdendo em várias canções ao seguir a linha pop, sem nada muito diferente dos discos da época. O instrumental, apesar de um pouco preso pelo tamanho e tendência comercial das músicas, é responsável pelos melhores momentos, com interessantes passagens de órgão, guitarra e metais, já o vocal não agrada muito, sendo todas as letras em inglês.
Nada de muito interessante, mas ainda recomendado para fãs de rock obscuro.

Serpentine was formed in Hilversum, in the second half of the 60. The group released two singles in its first phase, as sextet, which lasted until 1969. After several lineup changes, the remaining musicians Frank van Tijin and Peter van der Sande, recorded the only and rare album in 1970. Shortly after they changed the name to Apartment 1, releasing another LP in the same year.
"In the Grass" is divided into 12 short tracks, totaling less than 30 minutes. The album starts promising with "Tell Me Some More" (only fully instrumental) and "The Doctor Said", two classic rock with prog and hard touches, but get lost in several songs following pop line, with nothing much different from records of the time. The instrumental, though a bit stuck by the size and commercial way of music, is responsible for the best moments with interesting organ, guitar and metals passages, as the vocal does not fit well, with all the lytics in English. Nothing very interesting, but still recommended to obscure rock fans.

Mais uma pérola obscura vinda da antiga Iugoslávia. A banda Tref (ou Grupa Tref) foi formada na cidade de Osijek, atual Croácia, tendo breve período de atividades. Assim como a maioria dos grupos locais não chegou a lançar nada oficial na época, apenas algumas músicas gravadas na rádio local por volta de 1976 e 77 foram posteriormente recuperadas e voltaram a vida graças a internet.
Marica Rock (nome dado graças a canção mais famosa dos caras) traz 6 curtas faixas de rock clássico "arroz e feijão", simples e direto, com pegadas de hard e garage. A guitarra lidera o instrumental através de bons riffs e solos, acompanhada de bateria/baixo e órgão ocasionalmente. As letras são todas em língua local, com vários momentos de coro.

Another pearl coming from the former Yugoslavia. The band Tref (or Grupa Tref) was formed in Osijek, current Croatia, and was short-lived. Like most local groups they didn't release anything official at the time, only a few songs recorded for local radio around 1976/ 77 were later recovered and unofficially released on internet.
"Marica Rock" brings 6 short and simple classic rock tracks with touches of hard and garage. The guitar leads the instrumental through good riffs and solos, accompanied by drums / bass and organ occasionally. The lyrics are all in the local language, with several moments of chorus.
