Este compacto traz 2 curtas músicas que mesclam rock psicodélico, jazz e ritmos indianos (raga), ao estilo do fim dos anos 60, majoritariamente instrumental e com presença de sitar, sax, flauta, percussão, guitarra, proporcionando uma atmosfera viajante / ácida.
Com certeza um grupo que tinha capacidade para ter lançado um álbum completo, mas ainda assim pode ser apreciado.

A New Zealand-based group that released only one rare single and soon disbanded, being known to have as members Kevin Clark and David Parsons, who established careers in other local bands. This single has 2 short songs that mix psychedelic rock, jazz and Indo-raga music, in the style of the late 60's, mostly instrumental and with presence of sitar, sax, flute, percussion, guitar, providing a trippy / acid atmosphere.
Certainly a group that had the ability to have released a full album, but still can be enjoyed with these 2 songs.

Comentário: Músico e compositor neo-zelandês de Northland, que nos anos 60 integrou pequenos grupos locais como Cheshire Katt, Dizzy Limits e Timberjack (nome que adotou como seu artístico posteriormente), na década seguinte foi membro da grande Human Instinct e lançou seus dois únicos discos solo.
Com participação de ex-companheiros do Timberjack e também Quincy Conserve e Fourmyla, o debut traz 10 curtas faixas de folk rock, misturando a bagagem dos músicos. O resultado são belas composições acústicas e aparentemente simples, porém com construções instrumentais interessantes, destacando-se o piano, sax e violões, acompanhando o vocal e coros.
Trabalho sólido e recomendado para fãs de folk rock

A New Zealander musician and composer who in the 1960s integrated small local groups such as Cheshire Katt, Dizzy Limits and Timberjack (name he later adopted as his artistic), he was a member of the great Human Instinct in the following decade and released his only two solo albums.
Featuring former Timberjack members and also from Quincy Conserve and Fourmyla, the debut features 10 short folk rock tracks. The result is beautiful acoustic and apparently simple compositions, but with interesting instrumental constructions, emphasizing the piano, sax and acoustic guitars, accompanying the vocal and choirs. Solid and recommended work for folk rock fans.

Comentário: Formada em 1969 na cidade de Christchurch, esta banda passou por algumas mudanças de formação até lançar seus dois únicos álbuns em 1971 e 72, além de alguns singles e desaparecer pouco tempo depois. Posto aqui seu último registro, trazendo 10 curtas faixas de soft rock, bastante melódico e com tímidas influências de folk e country, destaque para algumas boas passagens de órgão, guitarra e flauta, acompanhando vários coros. Poucas novidades para o estilo, mas mesmo assim interessante para fãs de folk e pop rock.

Formed in 1969 in the city of Christchurch, this band had some lineup changes until launch their only two albums in 1971 and 72, as well as some singles and disappear shortly after. Post here their last record, bringing 10 short tracks of soft rock, quite melodic and with some influences of folk and country, good passages of organ, guitar and flute are highlights. Few news for style, but still interesting to folk and pop rock fans.

PROGRESSIVE ROCK - MIKE HARVEY - Great Expectations - 1979

Mike Harvey (também conhecido como Michael Harvey) é um músico, compositor e produtor nascido na Nova Zelândia. Na década de 70 formou o grupo Salty Dogg, lançando um LP em 1977 e logo depois partiu para carreira solo, que durou pouco e resultou em apenas um álbum. Desde então mora na Austrália, onde ainda produz e faz participações em alguns projetos.
Great Expectations, lançado em 1979 e sem nenhuma reedição, tornou-se uma obra rara. Traz 7 faixas instrumentais (apenas em duas ouvimos rápidas partes líricas), cujas principais influências são rock progressivo sinfônico e jazz fusion, além de momentos mais voltados ao eletrônico, sempre com belas e melódicas composições. O admirável e viajante trabalho nos teclados de Harvey predomina e é destaque, acompanhado ainda em momentos por guitarra e bateria.
Sólido e muito bem executado, essa pérola vale uma audição dos fãs de prog rock.

Mike Harvey (aka Michael Harvey) is a musician, songwriter and producer born in New Zealand. In the 70s he formed the group Salty Dogg, releasing a LP in 1977 and soon after started a short solo career, resulting in one album. Since then he lives in Australia, where he still produces and plays in some projects.
Great Expectations, released in 1979 and without any new edition, has become a rare record. Brings seven instrumental tracks (only in two we heard rapid lyrical parts), whose main influences are symphonic progressive rock and jazz fusion, and other more electronic moments, always with beautiful and melodic compositions. Harvey's excellent work with keyboards predominates and is also accompanied by guitar and drums at times. Solid and very well executed, this gem is worth a listening for all prog rock fans.

Pérola formada em Wellington, capital da Nova Zelândia, em 1970 a partir do vocalista e músico Rick White (ex-Tom Thumb). O grupo Farmyard, apesar de sua curta duração, lançou dois álbuns, além de alguns singles. Em 1991 os dois discos foram lançados juntos em edição especial.
Posto aqui o debut do quinteto, homônimo de 70 que conta com apenas 7 faixas,contendo fortes elementos da música progressiva, além de toques interessantes de jazz e folk. O instrumental é bem estruturado, ditado pelo soberbo trabalho da flauta, além de guitarra, percussão e saxofone; o vocal também aparece suave, com vários momentos de coro. Melhores músicas são "Through My Window", as duas partes de "Which Way Confusion" e "I Sit Alone", viagem de 9 minutos que fecha a obra.
Ótima pérola para fãs de prog/ fusion e flauta no universo do rock.

Formed in Wellington, capital of New Zealand in 1970 by vocalist and musician Rick White (former Tom Thumb). The group Farmyard, despite its short duration, released two albums, plus some singles. In 1991 the both records were reissued together.
Post here the quintet's debut, self-titled, which has only 7 tracks, containing strong elements of progressive music, and interesting touches of jazz and folk. The instrumental is well structured, dictated by the superb flute, present all the moments, besides guitar, percussion and saxophone; the vocals are very soft, with a lot of chorus. Best songs are "Through My Window", the two parts of "Which Way Confusion" and "I Sit Alone", 9-minute trip that closes the work. Great pearl for fans of prog / fusion and flute in the rock universe.

Pérola vinda da Nova Zelândia, formada no fim dos anos 60 na capital Wellington. O trio Tumburlaine começou tocando covers em pequenos bares e universidades locais e acabaram se destacando, na década seguinte lançaram dois álbuns e outros compactos. Infelizmente a banda se desfez em 1973, após mudanças na formação, mesmo assim vários membros seguiram carreira na música.
Posto aqui o disco Say No More, debut de 1972, contando com vários músicos convidados. É composto por 8 músicas, maioria curtas, com predomínio de folk rock e doses de country e psicodelia, lembrando alguns nomes britânicos da época. A música é bonita, serena e bem arranjada, com violões, piano, percussão, flauta, banjo e vários momentos de coro, com temática hippie e viajante. A memorável "The Flame of Thoriman" é o grande destaque, apesar de ser um trabalho sólido.
Pérola recomendada para fãs de folk rock e acid folk.

Post here their debut "Say No More", of 1972, with several guest musicians. It consists of 8 songs, majority short, with a predominance of folk rock and doses of country and psychedelia, recalling some British names at the time. The music is beautiful, serene and well arranged, with acoustic guitars, piano, percussion, flute, banjo and various times of choir, with hippie and trip theme. The memorable "The Flame of Thoriman" is the highlight, despite being a solid job. Recommended for folk rock and acid folk fans.

BOOGIE/ COUNTRY ROCK - HIGHWAY - Same - 1971

Pérola formada em Wellington, capital da Nova Zelândia em 1970 pelos amigos Phil Pritchard e George Limbidis, contando com ex-membros de várias bandas dos anos 60. O grupo Highway teve um curto período de atividades, mesmo assim fez grande sucesso local na época, tocando em festivais, faculdades e clubes. Lançaram apenas um álbum em 1971 e se desfizeram logo no ano seguinte, já na Austrália.
O homônimo é composto por 7 faixas de rock'n'roll clássico setentista, com influências de boogie, country e blues rock. No instrumental, nada de novo, apenas o competente trio bateria, baixo e guitarras, contando com várias mudanças de tempo e destaque para a última, com passagens e solos ferozes. O potente vocal de Sontgen também merece atenção. Quanto as faixas, as melhores são as mais longas e "Smashing".
Nada de essencial, mas uma boa pérola para fãs de boogie e country rock.

Pearl formed in Wellington, capital of New Zealand in 1970 by friends Phil Pritchard and George Limbidis. The group Highway had a short period of activities, still had great local success at the time, playing at festivals, universities and clubs. They released only one album in 1971 and fell apart in the next year.
The self-titled consists of 7 tracks of classic 70s rock'n'roll, with influences of boogie, country and blues rock. In the instrumental, nothing new, only the competent trio drums, bass and guitars, with several time changes. The powerful Sontgen's vocals also deserves attention. As the tracks, the best are the longest and "Smashing". Nothing essential, but a good gem to boogie and country rock fans.

PSYCHEDELIC ROCK - TOM THUMB - Ludgate Hill (EP) - 1970

Tom Thumb foi uma banda vinda da Nova Zelândia, foram formados em 1966 na capital Wellington tocando R&B e beat rock. Apesar de lançarem uma boa quantidade de compactos e EPs e serem considerados como a maior banda local nos anos 60, o grupo nunca chegou a lançar um álbum (apenas futuras compilações trariam todas as músicas em CD).
Após várias mudanças na formação o único membro original, Rick White, refez o som do Tom Thumb, aproximando-o do rock psicodélico feito no final dos anos 60 e começo dos 70, mas que não foi bem aceito na época e acabou causando o fim do grupo em 1970. O único registro psicodélico foi o EP conceitual Ludgate Hill, de 1970, trazendo apenas uma música de mesmo nome e com 9 minutos, subdivida em 4 partes. Excelente presença de órgão Hammond, guitarra ácida e vocal rouco de Sontgen marcam o som, contando com sons de marchas, sinos e gritos dando um ar viajante em vários momentos.
Um dos primeiros trabalhos de rock psicodélico da Nova Zelândia, recomendado para fãs do estilo.

Tom Thumb was a band coming from New Zealand, were formed in 1966 in the capital Wellington playing R&B and beat. Despite releasing a good number of singles and EPs the group never released an album (only future compilations would bring all the musics on CD). 
After several lineup changes the only original member, Rick White, changed the sound of Tom Thumb, approaching to the psychedelic rock done in the late 60s and early 70s, but that was not well accepted at the time and caused the end of the group in 1970. The only psychedelic record was the conceptual EP "Ludgate Hill", 1970, bringing only a song with same name and 9 minutes, subdivided into 4 parts. Excellent presence of Hammond organ, acid guitar and throaty vocal Sontgen mark the sound, with traveling atmosphere at various times. An early work of psychedelic rock in New Zealand, recommended to fans of the style.

JAZZ FUSION - DR. TREE - Same - 1976

Pérola vinda da Nova Zelândia, formada em 1974 na cidade de Auckland. O sexteto Dr. Tree lançou apenas um álbum em 1976, mas mesmo assim tiveram muita importância para a cena local, sendo considerada a primeira banda de jazz fusion do país e conseguindo sucesso por lá. Infelizmente, logo em 1977 o baterista Frank Gibson Jr. se mudou para a Inglaterra e o grupo se desfez, apesar de alguns músicos ainda estarem trabalhando com música.
O disco homônimo é composto de apenas 6 faixas, todas instrumentais e trazendo, como já disse acima, um jazz fusion bastante energético e com pegadas de rock e funk. O cover de "Vulcan Worlds" do Return to Forever mostra a influência na música dos caras, que são instrumental muito bem arranjado em todas as faixas e músicos talentosos, contando com vários solos de bateria, percussão, teclado, piano guitarra e trompete. Quanto as faixas, não acho nenhum momento fraco ou "entediante", mas o destaque principal fica para "Vulcan Worlds", "Transition" e "Eugino D".
Pérola altamente recomendada para fãs de jazz rock/ fusion.

Dr Tree's sole album is one of the hottest fusion albums of the 1970s. That's a pretty bold statement given the multitude of albums in the genre, but for those that know the album, it remains true. A 6 piece, with dual percussion, fiery guitar, Fender Rhodes, bass and.... trumpet. This latter element adds a unique dimension. And while you may be thinking this will put it in the Miles Davis camp, that wouldn't be right either. This isn't the heavy deep groove of Miles (which would have been fantastic as well), but more like the high energy of prime Return to Forever with trumpet as one of the lead instruments. Obviously plenty of room is also left for the guitarist to shred and the keyboardist to fly. The two percussionist's keep the tunes hopping throughout. Considered by fusion fans as a must own.

COUNTRY ROCK - ROCKINGHORSE - Thoroughbred - 1975

Pérola formada em Wellington, na Nova Zelândia, em 1973. O quinteto Rockinghorse tinha na formação músicos que já faziam parte de outras pequenas bandas locais, como o Taylor, Aardvark, Fourmyula e Face. O grupo lançou seu debut em 1975 e conseguiu sucesso no país de origem e também na Austrália. Após poucas vendas do segundo e último disco em 76 e brigas entre membros, a banda acabou logo em 1977 e caiu na obscuridade, com nenhum relançamento até hoje.
 Posto aqui o primeiro álbum de 1975, intitulado Thoroughbred. Traz 13 curtas faixas de country rock na maioria do tempo melódico e suave (soft rock), com algumas boas passagens de teclado/piano e guitarra. Quanto as faixas, destaque para "Thru the Southern Moonlight", "Good Old Rock 'n' Roll" e "Shuffle Shuffle".
Nada de extraordinário para a época, mas uma pérola recomendada principalmente para fãs de country rock.

PSYCHEDELIC FOLK - SAM HUNT / MAMMAL - Beware the Man - 1972

Pérola formada por jovens de Wellington, capital da Nova Zelândia, em 1969. A banda Mammal fazia poucos shows no começo, por que os membros ainda estavam na faculdade, até que em 1972, o poeta Sam Hunt (amigo do tecladista Backhouse) começou a fazer shows com o grupo, recitando alguns poemas durante o intervalo das músicas. A experiencia deu tão certo que o Mammal, junto com Sam Hunt gravaram um álbum em 1972, que acabou sendo o único do grupo. Após brigas e várias mudanças na formação a banda acabou, em 1974 e alguns membros continuaram na música,tocando no Blerta, Dragon e Tamburlaine.
O disco Beware the Man traz onze faixas de rock psicodélico na maioria do tempo calmo e acústico (soft rock), com algumas passagens de folk e country. Algumas músicas começam com poesias faladas por Hunt, as músicas são muito bem tocadas, com interessantes mesclas de guitarra e violão, teclado, sax, gaita e violino.
Um belo álbum, pérola recomendada para fãs de acid folk e rock psicodélico.

Band formed by youth from Wellington, capital of New Zealand, in 1969 . In 1972 the poet Sam Hunt began playing gigs with the group reciting some poems during the songs. The experiment was so successful that the Mammal, along with Sam Hunt recorded an album in 1972 the only one of them. After fights and several lineup changes the band ended in 1974.
The album Beware the Man brings 11 tracks of psychedelic rock, most of the time acoustic and soft style, with passages of folk and country. Some songs begin with poems spoken by Hunt, the songs are well played , with interesting mixes of electric and acoustic guitars, keyboards, sax, harmonica and violin. A beautiful album, Pearl recommended for fans of acid folk and psychedelic rock.

Pérola formada na Nova Zelândia, na cidade de Auckland, no começo da década de 70 e que lançou apenas um raro álbum em 1972. O Taylor foi quase um "supergrupo" neozelandês de rock desconhecido, pois contava com ex-membros de pequenas bandas locais como Rebirth, Dizzy Limits, Farmyard e outros. grupo lançou apenas um álbum em 1972 e acabaram logo um ano depois, quando o baterista Keith Norris e o baixista Clint Brown formaram o Rockinghorse, depois do fim alguns membros também tentaram formar outras bandas ou seguir carreira solo.
O homônimo de 72 traz um bom country rock, composto de apenas 7 curtas faixas, contando ainda com algumas poucas passagens de hard e blues rock. Destaque para presença de duas guitarras "matadoras" (que aparecem muito bem em faixas como Simpsons World), bons riffs e solos e também para os vocais de Steve McDonald. As letras são todas em inglês e falam sobre temas típicos do estilo: shows country (Brand New County Show), estrada (Brand New Road) e mulheres (Good Time Woman). Destaque para as faixas Time, Simpson's World e Brand New Road.
Uma pérola esquecida, mas de muita qualidade, recomendado principalmente para fãs de country rock.

Taylor was nearly a New Zealander "supergroup" of unknown rock, as had former members of small local bands like Rebirth, Dizzy Limits, Farmyard and others. The group released only one album in 1972 and ended just a year later, when drummer Keith Norris and bassist Clint Brown formed Rockinghorse, after 73 of some members also tried to form other bands or solo career .
The self titled of 72 brings a good country rock, composed of just 7 short tracks, still relying on a few passages of blues and hard rock . Highlighting the presence of two guitars (which appear very well on tracks like Simpsons World) , good riffs and solos, and also to the vocals of Steve McDonald. The lyrics are all in English and talk about typical style themes: Country concerts (Brand New County Show), road (Brand New Road ) and women (Good Time Woman) .
A forgotten pearl, but still with a lot of quality , especially recommended for fans of country rock.

PROG FOLK - LUTHA - Same - 1972

Pérola vinda da Nova Zelândia, o Lutha foi formado em 1970 na cidade de Dunedin por ex-membros de grupos locais como Throb e Pussyfoot, a banda teve vida curta, lançando durante seus quatro anos de atividade dois álbuns, sendo o que posto aqui o primeiro de 1972.
Seu homônimo traz um bom rock'n'roll, com influencias de progressivo, folk, country e rock psicodélico e uma pegada bem "suave" e acústica (soft rock) principalmente nas primeiras quatro faixas. O teclado e a guitarra aparecem muito bem nas duas canções seguintes e mais pesadas do álbum: Mountain Side e Stop (The music is over), já as quatro últimas trazem uma boa mescla dos estilos. O vocal é muito agradável.
No geral, uma pérola boa, nada de extraordinário, mas legal de conhecer.

BLUES/BOOGIE ROCK - THE LA DE DAS - Rock and Roll Sandwich - 1973

The La De Da's foi um grupo formado em Auckland, na Nova Zelândia, no meio da década de 60. Conseguiram sucesso no país natal e na vizinha Austrália, durante seus 10 anos de atividade a banda lançou 5 álbuns e participou de vários festivais importantes da região.
Rock and Roll Sandwich foi um dos seus últimos e melhores álbuns, lançado em 1973 traz um ótimo blues rock com influências de hard e boogie rock. O destaque fica principalmente para o guitarrista Kevin Borich, que faz um trabalho excelente em todo o álbum, os vocais também são bons. Destaque para as três faixas do "lado A".
Uma pérola altamente recomendada para todos os fãs de blues e boogie rock!

The La De Da's was a group formed in Auckland, New Zealand, in the middle of the 60s. Achieved success in the home country and in neighboring Australia, during its 10 years of activity, the band released five albums and has participated in several important festivals of the region.
Rock and Roll Sandwich was one of their last and best album, released in 1973 brings a great blues-influenced hard rock and boogie rock. The emphasis is mainly for guitarist Kevin Borich, who does an excellent job in the album.
A pearl highly recommended to all fans of blues and boogie rock!

BLUES ROCK - HEADBAND - Happen Out - 1972

Pérola vinda da Nova Zelândia, Headband se formou no ano de 1970 na cidade de Auckland. O grupo lançou seu primeiro álbum em 1972 e após uma pausa e mudanças na formação, a banda voltou em 1975 e lançou mais um disco. Não confundam com banda australiana da mesma época Headband.
O som deles tinha influências na maioria de Blues (lembrando muito John Mayall) e algumas passagens de country rock e groove. Seu primeiro álbum, Happen Out, traz um som consistente e com vários bons momentos, principalmente na gaita de boca, flauta e guitarra. O vocal do líder Tommy Adderley também é bom.
Nada extraordinário, mas uma pérola legal para conhecer. Recomendo!

Formerly called "The Bluesbreakers", this New Zealand outfit "Headband" were heavily influenced by John Mayall. They are not to be confused with the Australian band called "Headband" who did "A Song For Tooley" album. However that is a very good album also. So if you fancy a real very cool blues rock album, I suggest this one folks.

Grupo vindo da Nova Zelândia, formado em 1972 por um dos mais conhecidos e respeitados guitarrista do país, Billy TK (Bill Te Kahika), tendo um som muito influenciado por guitarristas como Hendrix e Santana e ex-membro da clássica Human Instinct. O vinil original é uma raridade total, tendo só 500 cópias e hoje é muito procurado por colecionadores.
O disco ao vivo traz na maioria jams psicodélicos e em muitos momentos viajantes, com longos e ótimos solos de guitarra contando ainda com alguns toques de blues e funk-groove (principalmente no baixo).
Pérola altamente recomendada para fãs de rock psicodélico!

Billy T.K.'s guitar mastery is on display from the first fuzzed out track "Heaven's Melody" to the eastern influenced "Guru Deva" and beyond. Although this album is live and contains lengthy "jam" tracks, it would be appreciated by any guitarist as "New Zealands answer to Jimi Hendrix" weaves his magic. The title track has a great feel to it and the whole album is seeped in druggy, dream like arrangements.
Highly recommended for any guitarist.
